I’ve heard about enough exclusions and issues with the new payment system that I wouldn’t touch it with a 50ft pole right now. There would have to be a sizeable, immediate reward for me to even consider it and, even when it’s fully functional, I haven’t heard of anything that’s really going to encourage me to give it a try.
Here are my numbers for the week:
Total Items in Store: 2569
Items Sold: 43
Total Sales: $1003
Cost of Items Sold: $105
Average Price Sold: $23.32

Average number of days between listing and selling this week: 220
Median age of sales (in days, between listing and selling): 126
Sell-through rate (for the week): 1.67%It was a decent week for me. Lots of smallish sales that added up nicely. I hope it continues into the holiday bump.
I had one of those fully-automatic expresso makers for a month or so. It was a starbucks one that cost me $3 at a garage sale. I wanted to test it thoroughly as they seem very prone to breakage. After we got through a bag of beans of use I decided it wasn’t going to be an essential part of our lives (and my wife wanted her counter space back) so I sold it for $144. Happy to take that profit.
I’ll have to re-listen to the show, I had it on during my commute but I had a nap (on the bus) and missed some of the show. (It’s a reflection on Monday mornings and not on the quality of the podcast).
Have a great week!
I’ve heard about that Marshmallow experiment before and the way it can be a predictor of success later in life. I bet that the ability to delay gratification is a great predictor of financial well-being in particular. Impulse purchases, in particular, cause a lot of people to get into poor financial situations.
Any tips on how to identify flatware patterns? I’ve avoided them in the past as I didn’t know where to start.
> I might tweak my prices or photos here and there, but pretty much my plan is to leave it alone. Good until canceled. “so basically you plan on a 100% sell-through rate?”: … Well, yes, I guess I do. Is that realistic?
With 720 listings on eBay, the chances are pretty high that you’ll have some number of items that are just not wanted / mis-priced / poorly described.
I start dropping prices around the 2-year mark and I’m removing items that have been listed since 2015. I’m running out of storage space so that’s a factor for me. If you dont need the money and have plenty of space then you might be able to wait longer than me.
Thanks for the podcast!

Have a great week everyone!
The latest Android App update also has problems. Lots of complaints coming in on the ebay forums: https://www.ebay.com/android
The program that buytikiselltiki is seeing is called eBay Easy Pricing. If you google “ebay easy pricing” you’ll find a few pages talking about it. Here’s one: https://esellercafe.com/sellers-unsure-ebays-easy-pricing/
I don’t generally watch tracking info but on Friday I happened to look at a couple of my orders from last week. I had received good feedback on an order but when I looked the tracking, there had been no scans at all. The label being created was the only info shown. I saw this same issue on 2 orders. I didn’t investigate further. I hope ebay gets this fixed without me doing anything. I presume I could take these tracking numbers to the USPS website and get the correct info if I need to prove anything (assuming that the issue is with eBay and not with the post office).
Employers often cover part of an employees health care costs however when you use COBRA, you’re paying the full cost of the insurance without the employer subsidy so it’s often much more expensive. It’s often a good option when you’re between jobs however.
I saved the podcast for my Tuesday commute time today. (Paid holidays are a small perk of working a full-time job I suppose).
I had a pretty good week last week. I had several high-value (for me) sales which helped my overall numbers:

Cost of Items Sold: $115
Average Price Sold: $27.37
Average Cost of Item: $2.69

YTD sales compared to this time last year: +20%
Average age of items in store (in days since listing): 320
Average number of days between listing and selling this week: 193
Median age of sales (in days, between listing and selling): 104
Sell-through rate (for the week): 1.71%Regarding Ryanne’s comment about not seeing the buyer’s email address in PayPal…. For some sales I see the email address right under the person’s name in the order details but for other sales it’s missing. If I click the refund button for those sales, the email address is shown. That might be a work-around if you need it.
Hope you feel better soon Ryanne!

Average number of days between listing and selling this week: 135
Median age of sales (in days, between listing and selling): 52
Sell-through rate (for the week): 1.55%Pretty decent week. Nothing amazing. Just a steady stream of lowish-value sales. I spent a little more time listing instead of buying on the weekend. Next weekend my daughter is coming to visit so I wont get much listing donw. I’ll also have to move a lot of my ebay storage out of her bedroom. That’s always fun. 🙁
Hope everyone has a profitable week!
Hi R&J — Thanks for the podcast. It’s great that you guys continue to put out podcasts even when you’re on vacation. I’m sure I’m not the only one that really appreciates it.
After having my best week of the year, followed by my worst week of the year, this week was back to normal for this time of the year. No high value sales this week:
Total Items in Store: 2486

Average Price Sold: $21.62
Average Cost of Item: $2.3
Highest Price Item Sold: $59.95 Texas Instruments Ti-84 Plus Graphing Calculator
Number of items listed this week: 68
YTD Sales: $28589
YTD sales compared to this time last year: +18%
Average age of items in store (in days since listing): 316
Average number of days between listing and selling this week: 197
Median age of sales (in days, between listing and selling): 92
Sell-through rate (for the week): 1.45%
# of Hats Sold: 25 (69% of sales)Jay – you mentioned PayPal 1099s on the show. Everyone gets the 1099 when they hit the 200 transaction / $20,000 limit but recently people who live in MA and VT get them when they hit $600. (Regardless, people should be reporting their income whether or not they get a 1099).
Hope everyone has a good week!
I just checked a bunch that had auto-renewed over the last 24 hours. I didn’t see any issues.
If you can get a loan from a credit union, that typically seems to be the cheapest place. Another place to check is a peer-to-peer lending option like Lending Club or Prosper. Lending Club says on their home page that they can give you an estimate without impacting your credit score so it must be a soft pull. I didn’t try it.
