Yeah, was a little sleepy and had maybe had one or two beers too many last night when I wrote that…
MyCottage summed up my rather unclear thoughts perfectly.
It seems odd to me that most people here, myself included, don’t like the idea of people “renting” the items we have for sale by returning them. Then I read through a conversation where about doing the exact same thing to another business…
Not as good as a first hand account, but they did a story on channel 7 news here in Detroit with the owner talking a little bit about the house.
That’s only about a 20 minute drive from my house, I’m so tempted to go see it…
I’m currently going through the exact same issue right now over a pair of corduroy pants. I took their advice and issued the return that way, provided them the screen shots they asked for as proof and just got an email asking me to submit the screenshots again. This all seems like a needless hassle towards us for something that is clearly an internal issue.
You do know that when you create the listing there’s an option to auto-reject offers bellow a certain dollar amount? Seems like something to use if the lowballs bother you. I always counteroffer lowballs with a dollar under my asking price to see if they come up to a reasonable amount. If not then it’s option #4.

Have come to the conclusion that making it to 500 items in the store this month is probably not going to happen, but I’m going to keep pressing and try to get as close as I can.
I have a question for the board though, in your opinion is it better to list a large amount of items in one day or schedule them out so an even amount of items are listed each and every day? I ask because my system has been to work all of my inventory in batches and then go a two day listing binge where I will put up 40 or so listings in couple of days. Each time I do so I see an increase in sales, but it’s generally older inventory that starts selling faster, not just the new mass of inventory that I have added to the store. I know that correlation doesn’t prove causality, but it seems odd that it keeps happening this way. Just wondering what everybody else has noticed.
For me personally, when it comes to buying clothes at thrift stores it’s all about watching the sales. Subscribe to all your regular thrift stores email lists and facebook pages. I very rarely pay over $3 for any clothing item at a thrift store and am able to maintain a +$25 average sale price. Clothes make up almost 80% of my inventory right now, that will change a bit with garage sale season coming soon, but as long as inexpensive clothing options exist I will never stop taking advantage of it.
I figured it might be fun to see how much competition there is around me, wasn’t expecting as much as I found though! Then again I do live in a metro area of over 4 million people, so it makes sense I guess.

Total Items in Store: 195

Cost of Items Sold: $38.56
Total Sales: $391.89
Highest Price Sold: $93.94 (Mr. Coffee Cocomotion)
Average Price Sold: $30.15
Returns: 0
Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $88
Number of items listed this week: 96It was a slow sales week for me, until Friday when things picked up a bit.
Got a good amount of listing done last week and have 60 more items to list after a good sourcing weekend. My area Salvation Army locations ran a deal where all winter clothing items plus anything with long sleeves was 5 for $5 so I made the most of them selling all long sleeve shirts for $1 each.
My prep and listing process is definitely improving and becoming more efficient though, which is a huge plus. I think 500 items is achievable by the end of March as long as I don’t have something that comes up and sucks away my time.
As always, onwards and upwards!

If you strain the yogurt through a cheese cloth after it’s finished and separate out the whey it’s greek yogurt. The leftover whey is great in smoothies and can be used as a natural preservative in all kinds of things.
Herno is a designer clothing line…but that’s definitely an M. Possibly a knockoff or counterfeit?
Weekly number for Feb. 26th – March 4th…
Total Items in Store: 112
Items Sold: 14
Cost of Items Sold: $28.05
Total Sales: $436.98
Highest Price Sold: $84.79 Garmin Fishfinder
Average Price: $31.21

Money Spent on New Inventory: $225 – $150 of which came at a Estate Sale Company that was having a warehouse liquidation sale. Working hard on getting items together to increase total inventory.
Number of Items Listed: 47Just continuing to grow. I know it’s early in the life of my business, but I’m very happy with the progress I’ve been making so far. I have enough inventory to get me over 200 total listings now, so this week will be spent focusing on that and not sourcing as much.
Just wanted to take a second and thank Jay and Ryanne specifically, but everybody here in general. This is a great place, and I’m very happy to have found it!

Thanks for the links! After all the research I’ve been doing the last two evenings on this set there’s some things in those listings that seem inaccurate. But as a rough framework it’s starting to fit into what I believe the value of the set to be. The Racks and tile holders in the last link are exactly the same as what I have. I’m going to get the leather case all cleaned up over the weekend, take some photos, and list it at $499 with best offer turned on and see what happens.
