I let neutrals slide, especially if it was a higher value item. I respond to the neutral.
Currently I have two neutrals. Don’t bother me one bit.I can see why sellers just bend over and take it with free returns.
I just got an INAD today on a camera. In the title it says “for parts or repair”. In the condition I state this camera DOES NOT WORK – it will not advance or fire, it is locked up. In the description I repeat all of this.
The INAD case reason – buyer says it doesn’t work.
It is absurd that sellers should have to deal with this BS. The system for this should be simple. As a seller I should be able to appeal immediately once a buyer opens an INAD case. A very simple and quick review would show the buyer is wrong. The return should automatically be changed to a standard return request where the buyer handles shipping.
Why is this soooo hard for ebay??? This would end all of these issues.I hate that I am letting this occupy my headspace…
This is where it is handy to have on hand small boxes and poly mailers. I ship hats, small toys/electronics in 8x6x4 ebay boxes. Unbreakable or creasable things get mailed in polymailers with bubble wrap if needed.
1st class can be your quickest/easiest packing jobs.
12/12/2018 at 7:31 am in reply to: WARNING: Classic shipping screen is giving incorrect higher shipping #53158So I still have this issue. Ebay technical is supposed to be working on it. Apparently I’m the only person to report it, which makes no sense. How could this only affect me?
My items that have free shipping default to the classic shipping page. This is only a problem on an item that needs to be shipped with priority or parcel select mail. 1st class is not affected.
I have to keep a log of all items that have the incorrect shipping cost and turn it into ebay for a credit… so frustrating.
Good luck with the surgery!
I’m assuming that because of the price that this is a vintage item.
Whenever I sell a vintage unopened item such as this, I include a disclaimer in the listing that it is being sold as a collectible only, that due to age the item may not work.Basically list is “as-is, not for original intended use” kind of catch all to protect me from INADs from buyers who don’t read the description.
If you have a true vintage New in box item, do NOT remove the price tag.
1. You could damage the packaging
2. The price tag has become part of the appeal of the item.Even having the original receipt can increase the sales price of a vintage collectible.
I checked my numbers out of curiosity.
I already have more in total sales this quarter than I had all 4Q last year.
Year over year, I’ve already had 50% more in total sales $ this year, which blows my mind!So to put things in a bit of perspective:
It was announced last may that Poshmark sellers had crossed 1 billion dollars….total since 2011.
https://www.businessoffashion.com/articles/news-analysis/poshmark-hits-new-milestone-as-sellers-make-1-billionLast year alone, ebay had 36.26 Billion in sales just in the United States. That is just a fraction of their global sales.
As for Mercari, reality is crashing down on them and they are losing money badly with their US investments
https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Companies/Flea-market-operator-Mercari-in-search-of-new-hit-services
They don’t report their US sales numbers, but reading between the lines it is not good at all.The only real current threat is Etsy.
Etsy has shown consistent growth over the last few years, has went public, and had $1 billion in sales 4Q last year.2nd quarter 2018 showed 20% YoY increase to 900 million, so they are almost to the point of breaking one billion in sales every quarter.
They keep showing growth the way they are and present themselves as a better seller/buyer atmosphere than ebay, then the sky is the limit. As you can see though, that dang numbers game has ebay WAAAYYY ahead of the pack in total sales, sellers, and total buyers. ebay is also showing growth as well. So don’t go all doom and gloom yet folks. We’re a long way from that. Long term I think the change to a dedicate payment process will make things better for ebay.
In regards to telling people what you do:
You can always say you are an investor – mainly small cap, short holdings kind of investing. Lol!
Then when someone asks your ROI, hit them with the ol’ “well I tend to average about 5 to 6 THOUSAND percent ROI” Haha!
Well technically it is true!It is called a slit seeder, or an overseeder. It is a commercial piece of equipment that will cut slices in your yard and deposit seed directly into the “slits”.
It is also used to slice up thick thatch like with Bermuda grass. I bought it at a yard sale this summer for $250. It was a former rental equipment at home depot. New, they are like $2500.
The old adage is true – you gotta spend money to make money.
My goal was to get $1200, but I put it on sale just for fun this past week to $850 when I put all my arcade game listings on sale. I didn’t expect it to sell. It was a real pain in the butt to get it running to show the buyer in freezing temperatures.
Items in Store 1059
Items Sold 29
Total Sales $2,074.23
COGS $402.25
Total Profit $1,671.98
Average profit $41.80
Average sales price $51.86
New Listings 12Yes, I put my total sales in bold. Why? Because I met multiple goals this week that I’ve had for a long time!
Goals:
1. Have higher weekly sales than J&R
2. Break $1k in sales with regular items (having $1k sales with a $300+ item doesn’t count)
3. Break $2k in sales.I sold an $850 item, but take that away and I still had $1224 in sales. YIPPEE!!
Now in actual profit, I took a hit because the $850 item (a slit seeder) cost me $250. I honestly didn’t think it would sell until spring, so that was a nice surprise. Local buyer who picked it up this weekend.
Now here is where things get interesting this week: Promoted listings. 25 of my 29 sales were promoted listings. 12 of 25 sold at BIN price. Whoah! On one day I sold 12 promoted items. That was an awesome day where I had over $500 in sales.
I know this week is likely an anomaly, but I sure hope the rest of this month goes like this!
12/09/2018 at 11:04 am in reply to: Best price on Black Friday or Cyber Monday.. neither one. #52944I bought a Black Friday laptop for business for $400 a couple years ago. Got it home and set up, and realized that thing was a plastic piece of junk!
I returned it and bought two refurbished dell 17” business laptops with mag alloy bodies for $150 total. SUPER happy with that purchase. One of them is my shipping station computer.
I also now use a 2012 MacBook Pro to list on that I got for $200 used.
Be a scavenger – don’t feel like you have to buy brand new junk.
Oh! I forgot about a conversation I had back in September. I saw a microscope on Facebook yardsale that was free for pickup. I came and got it. While there, the guy had a ton more stuff. He started offering other things that I happily took. He started talking about his eBay reseller business, which is when I said I resell too.
Ends up he was relocating to Florida and wasn’t wanting to take all of his inventory. He hooked me up with a trunk load of stuff and we chatted about our stores for a bit.
He said he might have more stuff in a week or so and would contact me to pick up more but he never did. Oh well.
I’ve had exactly two conversations with other scavengers in the wild.
One a guy started talking to me. We had a decent couple minutes talk and I gave him a few pointers he wasn’t aware of.Another I was standing in line next to for a LONG time (slow cashier). I was wondering if this person might also know of scavengerlife, so after a while I said “If I said the phrase ‘scavenger life’ to you, would that mean anything”? The person said no, so that was the end of the conversation.
I think it would be cool to randomly meet another trash elf in the wild. Other than that I’m not too interested in conversing about reselling. I think most of us here are fairly like minded and level headed. Not everyone out there who does this is that way. Hence why that first conversation was just a few minutes – the guy seemed kind of sleazy in his comments.
