I actually called in for the podcast on this issue today. First time caller – enjoy my hillbilly redneck twang.
– If buyer messages you before purchase, change handling time to accommodate.
– If buyer makes offer and then asks, message them back that you will decline the offer so you can revise the listing to change handling time and then they can resubmit offer.
– If buyer purchases and then asks for delayed shipping, initiate a buyer requested cancellation and relist with updated handling time. Buyer repurchases. With this issue I have talked with ebay in the past and they “say” they will revise it on a case by case basis but it is hit & miss in practice. As for me, I don’t sweat it. I am late ALL THE TIME and I still can maintain top rated seller. I have 1-2 items a week that I don’t get to the post office within my handling time.
Ecommerce, you are very knowledgeable and you have a ton of information to share – it is truly appreciated. Having said that, I don’t think you are fully aware of how you are coming off here. It seems that you are talking down to everyone. It really isn’t necessary and it undermines your valuable input.
You know what would be cool? A podcast interview where you can explain SEO in-depth.
I saw this preview yesterday. My thought after the opening scene with the jacket was “Yep, people like that are why Goodwill prices skyrocketed”.
Some people can’t leave well enough alone and just walk out of the store with their good deals. No desire to see this show at all – looks very trashy.

Be honest with yourself and then use your significant other or a good friend to be your accountability partner that you tell everything to about your eating and exercise. It helps to say out loud your failings, fears, and assumed road blocks in an honest fashion. It makes them real and easier to tackle.
Wow. Somewhere an FBA seller just about had a heart attack after winning that bid. That is dream haul at a dream price. 1600 bankers boxes of books.
Because I’m a nerd I calculated that out to approximately filling a 15′ x 20′ area 6 feet high – about 1700 cubic feet!
On the flip side of this issue, imagine that this deal came along a year ago. Imagine you bought it and then took a few months to process and send it all in to amazon. Then the day after you send in your last shipment they issue that famous email where they did away with the single item exemption on LTSF. Imagine how much that would hurt. Yep. Painful.

Retro Treasures WV.
I refurbish and sell vintage arcade video and pinball machines. I also do repairs on arcade machines for a local pizza chain.
The repair work came about because I was tired of their pinball not working right. One day I asked if they had a key so I could fix it real quick. That turned into a conversation with the owner that has since led to me supplying them with several games as well as keeping them all running good. The best perk is that I have my own key for the games so I get to play free pinball whenever I want. 🙂

My walks are always 15 minutes in length since my breaks are 15 minutes. I do three walks a day (2 breaks and an additional walk during lunch). I walk no matter the weather. I have walked in sub zero temps, and I’ve walked during a thunderstorm. I’ve steadily increased my walk difficulty as well. For the last month+, I’ve been exclusively walking up a very steep hill near my work. The first time I did it all the way up I started seeing stars and I had pulled groin muscles for over a week. Now I walk that hill every day 2-3 times a day and now I can go all the way to the top and back to my desk in 15 minutes. I have leg muscles I didn’t know existed at this point! I do not go to a gym – that takes precious time and can become an excuse (We’ve all said “I don’t have time to go to the gym” at some point.)
I’ve listened to this podcast some and it helped tremendously when I first started to reinforce what I was already figuring out for myself:
All the podcasts are on itunes so I started from the beginning. The general idea is to focus on doing functional movement and doing things you like. No need for exercise videos, gyms, special equipment, etc. Listening to this has also helped me pay better attention to WHY I was eating the way I was.04/04/2017 at 1:50 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 304: Do a little bit today, then do a little bit tomorrow #15937Total Items in Store: 583

Highest Price Sold: $45 Dansko clogs
Average Price Sold: $20
Average Profit: $17.43I’m slowly getting back into the groove of listing items again. We’ve slowly been clearing out the new ebay room and I finally have a desk and table set up to work, and have good lighting to take photos. I listed a whole 10 items this week. Woot!
I’ve mentioned on here a few times that I’ve been making lifestyle changes for the better. Today I’m down 55lbs in 3 months without crash dieting, fad workouts, pills, etc. I’m under 300 lb for the first time in 6 years. I walk, stretch, and do basic calisthenics. Eating wise I focus more on protein than carbs in my diet. I try to eat mostly real foods and not processed foods. I actually eat around 2200-2500 calories a day on average, which is ALOT of food when eating real stuff.
The most amazing thing is that now I truly enjoy walking/hiking and I also love the taste of vegetables. It’s amazing all the negative effects that are caused by a diet high in carbs and processed “fake” foods. While I don’t actually follow a Paleo diet, I do find that I naturally gravitated to that style of eating just by paying attention to what my body wants and needs. Carb laden foods are now a special treat rather than a major part of my diet.
So if you’re reading this far, thanks! I mainly share the health info because it has a direct impact on my ebay business. The time I used to spend at work listing is now used to go on walks throughout the work day on breaks & lunch. Sometimes I try to sit down and work on ebay, but I’d rather be moving so I’ll do a house chore or get on the elliptical for a bit.

If you don’t mind me asking, how do you source enough high quality stuff for amazon in those categories? Used or new? Would the returns be higher if you sold it all on ebay instead? Are you doing FBA or merchant fulfilled?
I did okay on Amazon FBA for my several month test phase, but the margins paled in comparison to my ebay store.
Their policy is a bit weird, as it also clearly states Passports are not allowed lower on the page in the “not allowed” section.
Personally, I wouldn’t sell an old passport. Any time I find personal identification materials in thrift finds I dispose of them.
Just decline and move on with life. If they really want it they’ll come back with something better or they’ll burn up all their offer opportunities.
The latest iphone otterboxes have this thin flexible plastic over the home button. While it does work for the print reader, it can be inconsistent once dirt gets under there. Otterboxes are a lot cheaper than they used to be back in the iphone 4 days. Worth every single penny.
We’ve talked about moving near other family in more rural WV so we can get cheap/free land and minimize our living expenses. If we did that, I just wouldn’t bother with local scavenging. There are plenty of metro areas within a 2-3 hour drive that I can go on 2 day scavenging trips every couple weeks and load up the van and roof rack with high quality merch easily.
I can go through a new thrift store and cherry pick the good stuff throughout the entire store and overfill a cart within 45 minutes. Considering metro areas have dozens of thrift shops, you see how quickly and easily this can be done.
2 thoughts:
1. Did you all get new recording equipment? Jay sounds a bit different – crisper and clearer.
2. I would love to get a bidet, but my wife is convinced it is unsanitary. So uh…how does the faucet thing not get covered in what it is spraying off?
I’ve always thought it was odd that you have to be on hold with anchor support. I just have a premium store and I use the “call me” customer service option and always get the call within 1-2 minutes. I’m generally happy with the phone support I have received from ebay. Even with the limitations, it is WAAAAYYYY better than Amazon’s support.
