Typically I have no description unless there is an obvious flaw I need to point out.
When I have an item such as a pair of shoes that are in “excellent” condition, I instead say “very little wear – see pictures for details & condition”.No matter how perfect you think something is, there’s always someone out there who can nitpick it.
There was a link posted here to the ebay forums regarding the seller update. I clicked it and entered the world of the never happy, never satisfied ebay community members. Wow…
You’d definitely be well served avoiding them.I’ll give you a bit of devil’s advocate here. For the time it takes me to set a floor and ceiling during listing, I could afford to take the time to decline two offers for that item. Multiply that across how many items I have in inventory and I am spending a lot of tinme creating custom min and max amounts that I could just spend countering or declining offers. I would easily be ahead in time just dealing with offers.
And really, dealing with offers if part of the fun that keeps ebay personal rather than just being a sterile Amazon FBA “job”.
If the transaction was made through ebay, then there needs to be repercussions through ebay to curb this bypassing of the process crap.
Ideally you would be able to open a case on ebay and submit the details of the case. If anything, this would allow ebay to keep track of people who abuse the paypal chargeback loophole.I am strictly GTC. Occasionally I will review older inventory and bulk cancel then individually review and relist each item with sell similar. I’ll change the price, fix any errors, add and/or rearrange keywords, etc.
Occasionally old listings need a refresh. In the end a lot of my items are one of a kind. In shoes there may be a few other colors or size like mine, but very rarely are the multiples listed the same color AND size as my item. In this case no amount of tweaking or monthly relisting is going to make that one special destined buyer come along any sooner.
There is blurb about offering “less than full refund” if item is not in original sale condition. I want more details on that. I’m generally fine with free returns as long as I can set some standard rates and scenarios depending on what is wrong.
For instance, I have gotten shoes back that REEKED of cigarette smoke. I’d want to charge 20% miminum to cover the effort to remove the smell.
Generally there should be some sort of individual seller policy up front so the buyer doesn’t get blindsided with a less than full refund.

I preferred creating drafts on the PC and taking photos on the phone but there is this weird bug where when I switch between phone and pc, all my settings such as returns, BIN, Paypal, handling time, etc would randomly change!
In the end I was creating drafts on PC, then uploading pictures on phone, then going back to PC to bulk edit all finished drafts to correct all the issues. Now that I’m back to exclusively phone the only thing I am missing is being able to add sales tax. Now that I decided to do returns with restocking fee I’ll also not have the restocking fee option either.
My fix will be to once a week go on and bulk edit everything I listed for the week to add that back in.05/09/2017 at 3:09 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 309: Scrapping and Parting – Interview w/ Eric in Ottawa Canada #17676Total Items in Store: 687

I’m fully back on the listing train. Woot! Woot! Unfortunately, my sales apparently got left at the station. Half of my store is shoes now so I am grossly out of balance.
I’ve been cranking along getting bins of shoes listed. I’ve went back to exclusively listing on the phone. This means I cannot add sales tax to the listing but I’ve cut out a step or two.I’ve done more organizing and I’m getting overwhelmed with how much unlisted inventory I have. I can’t quit buying either dag gone it. Every time I say I will stop I end up finding a cache of awesome merch that I simply cannot pass up. It is SO HARD to resist.
If I keep listing 50+ items a week then my sales should pick up. I’m on a mission to get up to my store max of 1000 items.
I prepacked when I maintained 80-100 items in inventory and had a very high sell through rate. Once I started Amassing “slow dime” inventory, prepacking went out the window.
For instance, I currently have 332 active shoe listings. It hurts my brain to envision how much space that many shoes would take up prepackaged considering how much room they take up in totes. It would be at least double the space and be a nightmare to located the item I need. The only things I am considering pre-packing are large awkward items that require specialty boxes and packing supplies. I very rarely buy larger items now, but I still unfortunately have quite a death pile of large items I bought in the past I never bring myself around to listing – mainly because of the difficult packing.
If I can remember I’ll snap a photo or two for you this weekend.
I use the cheap sub $5 tubs at Walmart. I can fit 4 across on my metal racks but I do have to shoe-horn them in there.I keep telling myself to stop shopping, but you never know what you’ll find. For instance, this past weekend I told myself I wouldn’t shop. Went to a goodwill so my wife could look at the clothes for herself. There sat this beautiful Casio weighted key digital keyboard. Complete with stand and pedal. They only wanted $20 because the power supply was missing the generic AC side of the cable so it was untested. I keep a pile of those cables at home for instances such as this.
Got it home and it works perfectly. It sells for $500 with the stand on ebay! I think the kids have claimed it though. As a bonus, the pedal and adapter was in a box with some wireless headphones and a remote. I asked if it all went together and they said yes. The headphones and remote go to a Chevy SUV entertainment center and are brand new. They sell for 70-80. Woot!
I also found a vintage Nike Wool/Leather varsity jacket that day. I’ll be listing that for $400!So in closing, fate has determined I shall never stop shopping. I’d miss out on my best finds!
My advice, pick out 10 things you can get $20+ for on ebay and list them. Then take everything else to a thrift store. One hour of time invested and you’ll get $200. Win/win!
I find that sometimes it is worth driving out of your way to a post office that has a good postmaster. There are some real stinkers out there. There is one locally that believes that a USPS label is null and void if it is not picked up or checked in the same day the label is printed. She will refuse your package if it is not the current day on the label and her postal carriers are instructed to not pick up anything not labeled the exact date.
Since the mobile app defaults to the current day even if I print at 11:30 pm, this has caused me a few headaches.
So yes, you did the right thing by just walking out. You won’t change their mind.
Organized storage is a must! I am so much happier since I have reorganized all of my listed inventory into totes with labels and SKU’s on the listings. I can also function more efficiently when I take the time to properly put unlisted inventory in totes and organize it.

Currently the two older kids are in rehearsal for two plays, the 4 year old plays soccer, and the baby is…well…a baby. We are literally busy every day of the week 24/7. I have to use every spare minute I have as efficiently as possible so I can preserve family time. Since January ebay has been the task that I have let slip. Before that, I let my health and sleep slip. Without health and sleep though, everything else is in danger so I made the changes I needed to make.
It is definitely not easy. A lot of things slip through the cracks. Clean house? Bwahahahahahahaha!! Not feasible with 4 children who are ALWAYS there destroying. Having small children raises the difficulty level of even the simplest task to 11. Ya just gotta man up and make things happen.
