I’d love to share, not sure how to pull up the link of a specific sold item, though…
Thanks for the suggestion. I tried this tonight and within 3 hours have already had 4 new sales on really old stock.
We have a granddaughter at Liberty University this year and went to visit this weekend. There is no “good” way to get there from South Bend, IN and the way down was mostly 2 lane highways, through tiny towns, and up and down a mountain on very curvy roads. We tried a different route going home, and hey! Luray is 20 minutes off 29 that direction, and no way was I going to be that close and not visit Broad Porch!
First, let me say that Luray was a huge surprise! I always pictured it being one of these one or two stoplight towns like the zillion we went through on this trip. Not at all! It is absolutely charming and bigger than we had ever pictured – even has a Walmart! Still old and small but super quaint and I wish I could remember how you found it. ( No podcast to answer, sigh!)
So we get downtown to Broad Porch. Wow! You guys did an amazing job!! It was Sunday am, Labor Day weekend, so perhaps a bit busier than normal, but I counted at least 35 customers inside besides your employees, and at one point there was a bit of a line outside! We had to wait in line quite a while, but we didn’t mind. It was so much fun to look around and see the things you had talked about on your podcast — the reclaimed hardwood floors, the chairs, the harvest table, the picture of the lady drinking coffee and smoking, etc. Wish we could have stayed to eat on the deck, but we already were adding to a 14 hour drive, but it was worth it!
2 bags of coffee, Southern Split and Cameroon, of course, a chocolate croissant and some kind of apricot toast thing (hmm).
Again, miss the podcast but wishing you the best. Thanks for the memories!
I’ve listened to your podcast every week for the past 7-8 years. I would save it for doing my “fast walk” on Mondays, and it made time fly by for me! I’m so sorry to see this end, but wondered how you could keep so many balls in the air…
Ditto to what others have said about your sharing and inspiration through the years. I’ve learned so much, thank you!
It makes me feel a little better that it’s not just me. I typically carry about 400-500 items (similar in type to Jay and Ryan – vintage, one-offs, clothing, etc) and normally sell 2-3 things per day. Today was day 5 of no sales!! Never happened before, even when traveling. I had been listing, cleaning up my store, sending offers, everything I knew to do to kick-start things, but …crickets.
But I read something interesting on another blog on Pinterest the other day and wonder now if it truly does work this way. It was on “6 things you can do to increase eBay sales” and one was “Ship on time – If you ship something late, it will hurt your sales for days, possibly even until the late item is delivered…” I have one day handling and normally make sure to ship within that day, but last Friday I made a sale about 1:40 am. Super busy day Friday with other things, so thought I’d just wait til the next day, but evidently that must be according to PST and I SHOULD have gotten it out, because it showed as late shipment. Of course that was Saturday, so it really ended up getting to them late. My bad!! Sure enough, no sales all week, but when that thing delivered today, I got 3 sales in a row! Hmmmm…
Hi fellow scavengers! I don’t get time to be on the forums much, but wanted to share something game-changing I just heard about on the Clutter Free Academy podcast. (Forgive me if it’s already been talked about on here). DUCK PACK AND TRACK!!! We just moved my business back home from an office, and now are trying to relocate all my inventory, listed and unlisted (which I refer to as “piles of cash, just waiting to be made”) in our barn loft, storage spaces and garage. This app is going to be a sanity-saver, I can already tell. Do check it out!

I stopped just as Jay mentioned the conspiracy theories regarding the slowness of sales to put in my two cents worth. I know for us, the season we are in right now in Indiana is when most of the yard work has to get done, plus we just want to be outside! Our property is large and there are a lot of other responsibilities in our lives besides eBay as well, and I am barely listing OR buying right now. I’ll bet the same is true for a lot of folks. Add to that graduations and all the busyness of May, I am just never surprised when it’s “soft” this time of year. It always comes back!
Thank you! I’m in South Bend
02/28/2018 at 2:19 pm in reply to: How to Deal with Returns Arriving in Different Condition…. #34069I thankfully don’t get many returns, but I sold a NWT sweatshirt Jan.2 to a buyer with zero feedback. Mid-Feb she requested to return, saying she had just bought some others and this one is a good bit shorter than those. Hmmm… Received it back, no tags, clearly washed and shrunken, maybe not even the same one. Contacted eBay. Long story short, they ruled in her favor, gave her a complete refund, then told me they would file a wrongful return appeal and immediately refunded my Paypal. Hopefully they tag her account and keep an eye to see if this is (as I suspect) going to be her pattern. What a shame to encourage such behavior!
