About missing photos
Since birthday (June 13th) I have accumulated so much to ask, comment or just tell I think I will never get there.
Just quickly, my store has 700 items and just about 10% got pictures erased. In all cases I’ve edited so far, it keeps only the one made as cover/main picture.
cheers
PH
I have over 10,000 items in my music collection, mostly LPs but also CDs, DVDs, BluRays, Cassetes, 45’s in 7″, 10″, 12″
Almost impossible not to find a handful of gems at least. Discogs.com has the best appraisal anywhere in the world.
ALSO, PAY ATTENTION: there are many that are WORTHLESS, HOWEVER, there is a twist, sometimes they have a wrongly printed label that was recalled before some were sold, others with wrong song, and other mistakes. These guys go by the hundreds.
Discogs.com you can make a sample search on what is looked after. At the very least, for example I have one 7″with beautiful cover by Frankie Goes to Hollywood and the flip side is supposed to be an unpublished song. I bought from a batch that came wrong with their cover of Born to Run from the boss. On these you can make $20-$30 which is not bad.
“the rest” I would make first band packages and second genre packages.
Tons of collectors like me are looking for the 7″ original release of several bands which mostly is what is missed from completician collectors.
Amen Cristine. My wife and I did the same for the 5 kids, NO REGRETS, on the contrary, made us bliss in joy, made us completely accomplished in our lives, we would do everything again.
We literally live for our most precious things, we do everything with them, for them.My daughter is already 31, so she comes 2x a year, imagine the day she leaves, a bunch of men crying like idiots for hrs unend.
Nick is in College 3 hrs from here, he comes often, but it is ridiculous, my wife and I treat him like a baby.
They are all doing great: Elise is a well succeeded Data Scientist, Nick is in Electronic Engineering Grad School and Cristian is in Aeronautics Engineering undergrad
The twins are just babies 🙂
They are my life, my pride, my everything. Not to mention my wife, it should be forbidden for men to decide things or be majority on any type of government. Men and Women ARE VERY DIFFERENT. Women are strong, powerful, they take care of everything and still find time to work and make money
My kids never ever raised a voice one decibel to my wife, I demand absolute respect because she was there for all of us. When Erica was in hospital with cancer, she would find time to go come and play with his pre-toddler twin and still back to hospital in the afternoon.Sorry, got really excited, I am absolutely crazy for my wife and kids.
Gonna merge two topics here with the mark of the beast on listings older than 18 months.
Couple years ago in January, when I first started listing and joined this community, in that order, i only knew how to do 30 days listing with the 3 max auto renews.
Then I started to hear the list and forget it thing which I could no grasp how. Then I found out if you go to bulk editor and select everything you can add an option “list continuously untill the item sells”Which is a pain because every three months hundreds and hundreds of lists generate 3 x the quantity of email about each item expiring and then stating it is time to renew and once more confirming the renewal.
Then I saw the light: THERE WAS AN OPTION LIST ‘TIL CANCELED
So I started to do that for new listingsHowever I still had a backlog of ~400 hundred of the old.
As soon as this last may I found a dozen of items with the mark of the beast. So I ended all of them and boosted, they were among my first listings, they were too simple.
Took the opportunity and I am grabbing like 20 of each of the old ones to end and then edit/boos and relist with the Good ‘TIL CANCELLED OPTIONAt the end these things are good to keep us up on our toes
Good news and avoiding the Jonesses
Friends, some comment Jay made last week about the Jonesess inspired me to talk about my own experience. At the end, I decided to spare you. Listening to the cast today continuing the topic and Jay mentioning about the twists and turns of his life AND their friends saying the “must live their lives while they can”, it was the perfect stage for me to tell you about my mother going from Mrs. Joness with steroids to ruin mostly because she lived her life like there was no tomorrow.
Anyway, instead of giving more details, just wanted to say that I do not think it is a good advice for personal experience. And my mother married twice to very rich men, being my father and after he died my stepfather.
Well, the good news: my Engineering Consulting contract was renewed long term plus all expenses, a top health insurance for all family and a couple of other benefits to make the deal sweeter.
Sunday night I closed my first international licensing contract with the company that owns the eBay store (remember eBay is the means I have to fund the core business). Talking about “passive income”, nothing better than this.
Lastly, my wife ran an “estate sales” and I got everything for free 🙂 🙂 🙂
Little over 100 items to sell, and I decided to put in some BluRay and DVD I do not care much and can add me between $15-$25$ each. And still donated 8 large trash bagged sized packs to the American Cancer Society, including excellent condition clothes, all sorts of toys and utensils.
Feeling good, listing like crazy (listed Lost Season 6 BlueRay box this morning already have two offers)
Happy

06/01/2018 at 3:23 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 362: Scavengers Are Always Prepared To Clean Out A Basement #41510Retro, I hear you my friend, I make your words mine:
“The problem is…once I’m out of the habit it is hard to get back in… I have serious stuff now grouped and ready to list…but I didn’t list a thing. I feel like I didn’t accomplish anything!
My workspace is a disaster as well. Ughhh… I’m equal parts excited and dreading getting back into the groove this month.”06/01/2018 at 3:20 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 362: Scavengers Are Always Prepared To Clean Out A Basement #41509My wife spent the entire week doing Summer cleaning.
My stress for not sourcing properly in recent times soothes every bag she brings. We donated twice about 10 large “trash” bags full of excellent kids and teen clothes and small kids toys to American Cancer Society, and I got so many just great things to list.
Happy as a kid in the candistore
06/01/2018 at 3:15 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 362: Scavengers Are Always Prepared To Clean Out A Basement #41507Mark S,
Last month I received a message about my Top Seller status.
Note I have 100% positive, 100% on time, low returns.
Now they just removed my status. They send me to the standard link, I cannot find the reason. Can only assume it is because the free returns.
I took the opportunity to reduce the 30 days hassle free return to 14 days among other things. I feel more free now 😉

05/30/2018 at 1:11 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 362: Scavengers Are Always Prepared To Clean Out A Basement #41284Mike – the thing is you have a large solid store already.
If you have extra time or is sitting there with not much to list, put it on …YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW QUICK THE WINDOWS ME WILL SELL
half year ago I sold Windows Me, several Windows 7 (these ones sold REALLY HIGH), Windows XP,among others.
I had a MSDN subscription, I would say two bank boxes full of CD and DVD from years and years back. Sold everything together for a tad under $500.05/30/2018 at 12:41 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 362: Scavengers Are Always Prepared To Clean Out A Basement #41281Parasites?
Possibly who made this comment in the past is not fully aware of the biological significance of parasite entities, anyway I would describe Jay and Ryanne as recyclers, treasure hunters, repurposers, or even scavengers 🙂
Loose comparison: an aluminum can manufacturer today utilizes the highest percentage of the production material as recycled cans instead of raw aluminum, they are certainly no parasites.
In my Grad School I did Electronic Engineering and Computer Sciences. I had a BIG DREAM: work with recycling, and later with renewable energy. I took all somewhat related classes I could find.
In the first years I hear the story that made me fall in love. As summary intro, back then the Engineering school had 250 acceptances for Civil Engineering and other 250 for all others together. Not difficult to imply that many of these Civil Engineers would work in administration, operations, traffic, even sales. Some of them would go entrepreneur, always loved these guys, they had something I couldn’t – and can’t – have.
This one guy had graduated a handful of years before me. In the big town, you know, you have the unfortunate reality of the homeless. This guy decided to pay for homeless to bring him material to be recycled: glass, aluminum, tin, iron, 2 types of paper. He would pay per weight, under condition they were separated accordingly. In a short time period, he had hoards (not sure if this word is appropriate) of homeless men and women lining up with material for him.
First he used a borrowed empty lot, then he rented a sort of unfinished warehouse, then he bought a medium sized truck and a while later a second one.
In Summary, back in 1983 or so he was the first recycler to formally have a recycling company and the first one to sell ideas to beer makers and others demonstrating the recycling process and cost difference. I have a couple of friends from college, they moved recently to Mexico, everytime we talk we remember how much I used to talk about this.
To finish. A few years later, for the same reasons above, the market has been really flooded with civil Engineers. A couple of them were very well succeeded in the food market: one created a brick and mortar natural juice parlor he named “The Engineer who turned into Juice”, right in the core of 5th Avenue.
The other, the first food truck I can remember, dedicated to hot dogs, the thing is the variety and alternatives to build your dog made him wealthy.
Love to tell my tales 🙂
05/30/2018 at 11:17 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 362: Scavengers Are Always Prepared To Clean Out A Basement #41277Old Software / Old Computer / Old Games / Old Video Game Consoles and Games
Hello, there is a considerable number of people, mostly somewhat connected to computers industry, who collect Old Computers and many things that come with it: manuals, software. The same for video games.
So, there are thematic collections, for example Amiga 500, original IBM PC/XT or PS/2. They want the original software that would run back then, more complete the better, so one day they find installation disks, then the accompanying manual, so forth.
It is a good are to explore. Even books (the other day I sold a book something “running Lotus 1 2 3 on an IBM computer”, the other “Windows 95: advanced user guide”
05/22/2018 at 11:10 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 360: Is Diversification a Myth or Reality? #40632Mike, my pricing strategy goes that way as well.
If I expect to sell a product for $100, I price it $120 or up (depending on the product I make it 2 times).
Also the forever going free shipping, for the few products I have on free shipping, my pricing also includes the (usually First Class) shipping embedded.
In my case specifically I have more traction on sales when it is free shipping, the challenge is I got really “screwed” a handful of times for that.
05/17/2018 at 11:34 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 360: Is Diversification a Myth or Reality? #40173T-Satt: having these conversations are the funniest part of this. I just love to discuss these details, discrepancies, particularities, how one do versus the other. In summary, I am in Nervana now.
“All kidding aside, I would keep it as simple as it can be, to be accurate to what you need for tax filing as well as for management reporting.”
Yes the KISS philosophy is the best (keep it simple stupid heheeh), I am a complicated person, but I try to build as simple and as detailed as needed to reflect actual and plan for my goals“I like seeing Revenue by platform in our financials. SixBit also gives us a Gross Profit by platform. I can use that and see how each is doing.”
Me too, I do it by whatever (since the LLC has other income sources as well)“This is also why I split out the PayPal downloads for each sale into 4 lines (Product Revenue, Shipping Revenue, PayPal Fees, Sales Tax Collected). Then I can see Shipping Revenue vs Shipping Expense, a true Product Revenue without Shipping, PayPal fees are shown as an operating expense line (they are really similar to a bank fee), and Sales Tax Collected for annual reporting.”
Exactly the same here, I too have cost center for each one. What I need to do is move the eBay and PayPal fees to operating cost center (already moved the shipping to customers as operating and the COGS version is now Freight-in as per the IRS Guide-book for small businesses accounting.“Just shoot me an excel download from QuickBooks of any reports you are looking at on a regular basis (daily/weekly/monthly). Anything you make a decision on.” Later today in your inbox
“And anything you are reporting to your tax person. They may have reasons for certain things, so I wouldn’t change anything (don’t mess in someone else’s sandbox), but it would be an interesting review.”
I think just the above. I am being audited this year (not like Trump, I am really being audited) and these details might have affected that. At the end of the day they are huge part of expenses.“As to your standard/variances…you are a brave man. I do cost accounting for a living (well, contract now), and I ain’t doing it for this business. Way to messy for my taste. I can back of the envelope enough for the big things to make buying and pricing decisions, and that is enough. But if you get good info from it, more power to you!”
Indeed, however moving towards the changes I delineated above, this will certainly change to as consequence.Cheers
