Ha ha, I know what you mean. I especially enjoy when I’m hanging out with friends when my phone cha-chings, and they get super excited and want to know what sold this time!
I’m also interested in giving junk drawer lots a whirl. I’m always drawn to small weird items that aren’t worth enough individually for me to post.
Perhaps we can hold a junk drawer lot experiment and see how it goes.
01/24/2017 at 12:09 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 294: Finding the Valuable Caches and Going All In #11053I know what you mean, Julie. Relatives get excited about dusty piles of glassware and figurines that depress the hell out of me, but I do take an occasional item, since I appreciate that they want to help me out!

Number of items listed this week: 18Highest sale yet for me this week. I picked up a lot of around 50 Armed Services Edition books at an auction for $20. These are small paperbacks issued to the military during WW2. There are hundreds of titles and a collector’s market for the books. Apparently, the Great Gatsby had its first paperback release in this format. The book originally came out in the 1920s, but its eventual rise to classic literature status occurred at least in part to service people reading the book. The only copy I could find sold for $325 on Etsy, so I decided to price mine at $400. The buyer initially offered me $250, but before I could respond he purchased it outright for full price. Yesss, love this biz. I appreciate not only the $$$, but learning random facts when I research the items I acquire.
12/28/2016 at 7:54 pm in reply to: What the highest price/ biggest profit item you have ever sold on Ebay? #9030Great stories everyone. Amber, I’m blown away by the pipe sale. I sold a couple of my grandfathers old Dunhills for $125 each, and ever since I keep an eye out for old pipes. Discovering an unused vintage Dunhill pipe in the thrift store glass case is a once in a lifetime find!
My highest sales were $350 for a 1930s book of cocktail recipes based on the zodiac. It was called Baroscope and had wooden covers. And $305 for a broken Sheaffer fountain pen.

Number of items listed this week: 26The past two weeks have been great for my small store. I’ve had a dim view of the Savers thrift chain, but I visited one I’d never been to before and found a pile of 70s sealed vintage doll clothes for $2-$3 each. Who knew that a doll known as Suntan Tuesday Taylor existed and someone would pay $110 for an outfit. Even weirder that I’d be the one to sell it to them. Cha-ching.

http://imgur.com/a/47tOqOK here goes. And to be clear, scrolling horizontally doesn’t allow the entire message to be seen.
http://imgur.com/a/TeSJ1And apparently I am unable to link images here. Not sure what’s up. I posted a screenshot to imgur, copied the link, clicked on the link button and pasted it and yet nothing…
12/18/2016 at 9:34 am in reply to: What is the best or weirdest thing you have found inside an item you sourced? #8299The best thing I found was $70 and a gold ring in a backpack. But I was recently photographing a vintage Scripto lighter and pen set and when I removed the carboard tray from the box I found a stack of old foreign bills. I doubt they’re worth anything, but my heart skipped a beat at the sight.
(I tried several times to link to photos of the reveal on imgur, but no dice…)I have the same problem. I’m using Gmail on Windows. Same issue on both Firefox and Chrome.

I have a pile of old letters I haven’t dealt with because it seemed a bit daunting to list them. I know you’re an advocate of minimal listing info, but I’m surprised that someone bought them without even knowing how many letters are in the lot. Congratulations!

Number of items listed this week: 5Had a good week despite barely listing. I always keep an eye out for fountain pens and found one in pieces at an estate sale. Paid a dollar for it and when I got it home saw that either it was broken or the included nib was for a different pen.
I thought about pricing it for parts at $40/best offer, but decided to run an auction since I didn’t see a similar model on ebay which was the right choice — sold for $305!!Over the past few weeks I’ve sold two *non-working* German made Anniversary clocks, the kind with the glass dome. One was in an auction box lot, I almost tossed it before I reminded myself I’m a scavenger and looked it up on ebay. Wound up selling overnight for $45 to a gentleman in Taiwan. Bought the second one for $6 at an estate sale and sold that one just as quickly for $55. Keep an eye out for these clocks!
