My January Task is, wouldn’t you know it, Challengers Choice. Just retrieved a sold item from the “Listed on ebay Inventory Room” and the task became obvious: FINALLY get the Inventory Room set up properly, so it isn’t as much work to pull sold items. I’ve been putting this off for a LONG time.
Utahbill, There are private and public coupons. I’ve been running a public coupon sale for a few days now, it ends tonight, but you can look at my store to see what it looks like. It’s very similar to Markdown Manager, BUT one major difference is, there is no strike through to show the buyer the lowered price. (I suppose because the price doesn’t actually get lowered until checkout) I haven’t had a lot of luck with the public coupon, and I wonder if it is because buyers don’t want to have to do the math….I’m running a 20% off sale, and I think the percentage throws people. I might do better with, say, a five dollar off sale , because people can probably subtract that easier than they can figure out what 80% of the price is in their head.
That said, I also send coupons to all my buyers as part of the packing slip. Haven’t had anyone buy using one, and I’m thinking of reworking that.
But this means I’ve got a bunch of 10% off coupons out there. They can’t be stacked onto a coupon sale, but they can be stacked onto a Markdown Manager sale. So if I run a 20% off MM sale and someone uses a 10% off packing slip coupon, they are basically getting 30% off. So be careful about that.
They do not stack with best offer. So, if I’m running a 20% off coupon sale and someone makes a Best Offer and I accept it, the buyer doesn’t get the 20% off on top of his Best Offer.

(Note that I’m using the new store “banner” feature to promote the Coupon Sale…you can use it to promote any type of sale, or an individual item, or a category.)
My sale is not on all items in my store. To see the sale itself, showing only the items included in the sale, click on the “shop now” button in the banner, or go here:
I haven’t used every option with Coupons, but I’ve been using them for a while, so if you have any questions, let me know.
Thanks Amatino, that worked!
Here’s mine:
Oops. Can someone remind me how to post the actual image from Imgur?
Oh, another goal. I’ve been considering adding more venues (presently really only ebay), but I’ve decided to focus on ebay for Q1…if I can do half again what I did in 2021 Q1, I’ll probably stick with ebay. If I can’t reach that goal, I’ll look into other venues. (So, Q1 2021 x 150%=Q2 2022 Goal)
I’m still working on my goals for this year. And my list for the Trash Elf Challenge. One thing I’m definitely going to do (barring illness, etc): 5 new listings every day for the first two weeks. Probably increase it at the end of the two weeks, and going forward, until I hit a level that I can do comfortably. I’m borrowing from Chris at Daily Refinement—I can do more than 5 listings per day, but 5 actually go up, and the rest get banked for those days when we are running errands, sourcing etc, and I might not have time or energy to list. I don’t KNOW for a fact that ebay’s algo considers daily listing activity, but , like many, I’ve always suspected it is a factor…..so hopefully consistency will help with sales. And, if nothing else, it will force me to establish a daily listing habit, which will help reduce my unlisted inventory piles.
Like Retro, I’d like to get all my unlisted inventory (except the stuff we’re going to be working on in the immediate future) out of the house. That’s a lot of stuff, and will be a work in progress, but I’d like to have that finished by no later than the end of Q3.
I’m giving myself the first week of the year to define my goals, so will add more later. Stuff that I’ve been putting off or that I think will be more “fun” is going onto the Trash Elf Challenge….because it is stuff that doesn’t have to be done in any particular order….
Thanks for the examples! I was getting hung up on the fact that I have stuff needs to be done in order in the coming year, and so the random number thing was problematic. But now I’m going to concentrate on smaller stuff that I’ve been wanting/needing to get to, stuff that doesn’t need to be done in a particular order. So, back to the drawing board….LOL
craig rex,
Small town PA here. Similar situation I’d say….I see more stores opening, some are consignment shops, one is a shop that started as a flea market/auction, and has become basically a place where they buy pallets of returns and stuff online and sell it in a warehouse type setting…but they’ve kept an online (Facebook) live auction component and update their Facebook page regularly with notices of new inventory, sales, etc.
What I’m finding is, there is much more competition to buy stuff, and it feels like less of the good stuff is making it to the shop floors (either being sold online by the shop, or it’s simply sold as soon as it hits the floor). I’m definitely seeing a lot more people locally selling on Facebook, etc, and so that stuff is never making it to a thrift shop (or even yard sale).
I’m also seeing the shops increasing prices to a point where it can be hard to make money at resale.
As always in the Scavenger World, Knowledge is King, and the more you know about stuff, the better off you will be. I have so much unlisted stuff that I could take a year off from sourcing and be OK, but I won’t do that because 1. Sourcing is the fun part and 2. things can change so quickly—shops go in and out of business or relocate, demand changes for items, etc, that I think it’s important to stay in the game…
Here’s a short video about some of the other changes made to Stores….doesn’t include video, maybe they’ll cover that in an upcoming video:

Dahlyla,
You’re welcome. ebay has added a number of new features to the store home page recently. Another one I like is the “Banner” on the home page, which can be used to announce a sale, or promote a particular category or even listing. I have said for years that if I’m running a sale, I should have an easy way of announcing it on the stores home page……well, we finally have that. (You can see an example on my home page now, I’m running a sale though tomorrow.)
Yeah, I wish I had grands to help me with this…..I’m sure 6 year olds have more video experience than I do LOL Would love to see what you—or they—come up with. eBay does have some rules to follow, and recommends about a minute for the length…don’t know how strict they’ll be about that.

I never made much headway with my listing goals, but I like this new idea a lot….starting work on my list!
Jay, Very cool on the card. Yeah, early AA and related stuff is very collectible, I just don’t come across much of it around here for some reason.
Jay, $215 for an antique business card? Wow! Can you share any info about that card?
