It’s in his instastory
07/08/2019 at 8:30 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 418: Brick & Mortar Store Is Not For Us #64614Reddit would never be as organized. I have a forum on netfronts server. Costs me about 150 a year. I use phpforum, sets up in minutes. Can be organized like this one. Netfronts is super helpful if an issue and correct things quickly. In 15 years I’ve had maybe 4 down times longer than one hour.
Also check out Tapatalk, I use them as a mobile portal but they have desktop forums that integrate as well, Tapatalk can generate ad revenue (I don’t use)
06/10/2019 at 2:50 pm in reply to: Dimensional Shipping Update 2019 – Repercussions of no Measurements #63280I must be daft… because the future DIM is sending my art work into space re pricing. Or I have been getting by with sending larger than 12x12x12 things without repercussion for years. I just put in a weight, no package size and mail.
Now adding for example a painting size in is making large art from my zip code to my zip code go from $11 to $74. That will make any of my larger things just not worth buying.
I ignore the promoted listing option. eBay gets enough. Having said that when I dig a Van Gogh out of the trash then it’s on like Donkey Kong 😉
Speaking of digging out of the trash. I dug a solid oak door our of the trash last week. Went on Facebook Market place and sold it!
I want to thank you all for “teaching me” to look in trash cans for items to sell. I’m not ready to eat a hamburger from the middle of the road just yet. That’s uber scavenger!
About the same but with no fees. I do cross post and remove from eBay when I sell locally.
Some things I sell locally I could never sell on eBay due to the weight. I accidentally bought a 5 gallon container of floor finish at an industrial auction. Ended up selling it to a guy and now I keep buying them and selling to him.
27 eBay packages mailed this week
48 local sales via Facebook Market Place (it’s been HOT the last two weeks)
4 local sales via OfferUp
4 mailed items via Facebook Market PlaceScavenge of the week: I found a shoulder mount 10 point deer in a trash container and sold it locally for $120. Can’t believe someone threw it away, it was well made and a very stately looking buck.
Also got a Big Leboowski sweater at an auction for $7. Second one I’ve score this year at this auction. I think the others don’t really understand the value.I had to laugh at the cereal box packing 🙂 I use whatever I have near that works.
PS: I like tape 😉 I have about 100 rolls so I use it liberally!
This week I packed over 60 items from a small charm to water skis! I also am seeing a tremendous uptick on Facebook Market Place sales. We did over $500 this week in local sales, our best week to date.
I’m excited to have found an auction where I buy 5 gallon containers of floor finish. I buy each container for between $3-5 and I have two steady buyers now at $40 per container. In the store my customers say it costs them $75. So a win win for us both.
I wish you all steady sales!

Greyhounds website is very glitchy. When I have to get quotes, I get a lot of errors, mainly saying down for maintenance.
I like that on furniture they allow shrink wrapping. (just because I found huge rolls of shrink wrap in a dumpster)
I have used Greyhound a lot. One it can be cheaper and another it’s not as “handled”. I will sell dish sets and ship via Greyhound considerably cheaper than any other method. (especially when going to the west coast from the midwest) Since it is handled less, I feel more comfortable that there is less chance of breakage.
Why print the label online??? You get a 20-25% discount off the shipping which I can pass onto the buyer to encourage them to buy or pocket for myself.
To avoid the error you had when you got to Greyhound, I find printing the label as I walk out the door works best. If the label is over 24 hours old I will get the error and have to call Greyhound call center.
In over 100 Greyhound shipments I’ve had zero issues. Greyhound will also offer a bus to door service, if the customer wants to pay there is that option.
Fastenal stores also offer a shipping from store to store service. I had an anvil go from St. Louis to Washington state at a rate of $80 whereas FedEx want 140.
I was just going to let ya know! Makes my life more simple 🙂
We both had full time jobs up to about three years ago. The reason we have so many sale is I did beanie babies when beanie babies sold well. Also sold house flags and mini flags when they were hot. I use to whip those out like mad. So simple. On both I had a wholesale source so the source part was easy.
I wasn’t greedy I undercut people with respect to the beanies and they sold themselves fast. I loved one day auctions.
We took about 3 years off and then I discovered estate sales, auctions etc. It’s like an addiction 🙂
I think since it’s not something we need to do as a living it’s not a chore. We bought a house in FL and became snowbirds this past winter even though we are on the young side. This past winter I was overwhelmed by the what’s available for sale and cheap in the area we were in.
I’m still having this issue. Like you I still like to thank buyers for their purchase and that I will get mailed. It’s something I’ve done since 1997 when I started on eBay.
I do get a lot of thank you’d back.
I also feel if there is an issue with an order it shows I’m approachable and open to communication. I think in over 20,000 sales I’ve only had one person just “yelling” at me for a sales problem.
Hope they fix this glitch soon. Obviously the work around is login to my laptop.
