T-Satt really enjoyed listening today to you and Jay rap about numbers and spreadsheets. Do you have a way of pulling the shipping costs and eBay fees associated with each sale in order to determine net profit. eBay doesn’t seem to make it easy for me to find this data on a sale by sale basis. I’d love to be able to pull all this into a spreadsheet on a regular basis and see my “true” profit on sales for that week or month.
03/12/2018 at 2:57 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 351: Being Frugal Is Not A Secret Club #34915I have one eBay store where I sell wholesale replenishable home goods and i offer Free Shipping and I can tell you it is by no means FREE for the international buyer to get it shipped from the GSP center in Kentucky to wherever they are at. When I am printing the shipping label to get it to the GSP center in Kentucky I can see how much the buyer paid for shipping…and it’s almost always a crazy amount of money! I’m starting to wonder if offering other international shipping options other than GSP would be cheaper for the international buyer and boost my international sales.
01/25/2018 at 1:08 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 344: Decluttering and Auction Cravings #31288Thanks T-Satt for the reply and good info…I don’t know that things are going to change with FedEx Smartpost, everything I am seeing states that on Jan.22nd FedEx instituted a dimensional weight charge on SP shipping, so large boxes like the ones I send took a Huge hit. As for the lower rates you are seeing through Shippo, I would assume that at some point in the near future they will get their rates to catch up with the increases USPS put in place and that you are seeing on eBay/Paypal. Not sure how a small 3rd party company could offer lower rates than eBay? Until then though that’s great that you are getting to take advantage of those savings. Thanks again for all the help on shipping information. – Matt
01/25/2018 at 1:45 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 344: Decluttering and Auction Cravings #31248@T-Satt and/or @imjosh what are the benefits/advantages to using a third party like fitshipper or shippo versus just using ebay’s shipping labels service? is the advantage only if you are selling on multiple platforms and want to pull all your shipping into one single platform? and while I’m at it…can either of you explain regional zone shipping, I think through USPS? is this something I should be considering? I have one eBay store where I daily sell “replenishables” or wholesale items and so its a lot of shipping the same type of things day after day…mostly larger boxes, along the lines of 28x12x6 and 5 lbs lets say…for over a year I offered free shipping and unless it was local (West Coast) I used FedEx Smartpost for shipping, which made it economically feasible for me to offer my buyers free shipping…however, with FedEx slapping the dimensional weight component onto Smartpost on the 22nd, my days of offering free shipping are done and i’m now going through the painful process of changing the price and shipping options on most of my listings on this 2nd store of mine. Any advice, ideas, or best practices for shipping larger items on eBay would be much appreciated. -Matt aka LoveJam
As I dig around a bit more I am seeing several sources online say that on Jan 22nd FedEx slapped on a dimensional weight component…so looks like my days of shipping larger packages (ex. 28x12x6 and 5 lbs) via SP may be over 🙁
Effective January 22, 2018, FedEx will apply dimensional weight pricing with a dimensional divisor of 139 and a per pound rate to all packages over 71 lbs on all SmartPost packages. Dimensional weights are of course (length x width x height) divided by a DIM factor, which is set by default at 139
I had originally posted this just a few minutes ago in the Main Forum, not realizing that you all were talking about it over here!
I’m wondering if anyone else has noticed a dramatic jump in the cost of shipping Smartpost (FedEx) in the last few days? I know that Ryanne has said several times that she uses Smartpost for her shipping needs quite a bit…I sell some larger items and what typically might cost me $12 to ship, has now jumped nearly 3X to $34!! Anyone else experiencing this hike in Smartpost costs or know what this is all about? I was hoping it was some sort of glitch yesterday but today when I logged back in I’m still seeing these crazy high costs to ship via Smartpost.

08/25/2017 at 2:50 am in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Brass pipe holder, 70's mod TV, 8-Track recorder, Brass butterfly book stand, Polaroid rainbow camera #22201Hey Steve, how do you personally go about selling on FB marketplace…take a quick pic, short listing and throw it up there? And then are you comfortable allowing buyers from FB just come to your house to pay and pickup? Thanks, Matt
08/23/2017 at 11:32 am in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Breg Polar Care, Post WW I German money, Bike trainer, Pendleton board shirt, Bullworker, Seatbelt purse, Blow mold Santa #22136Super helpful, thanks…I’m definitely gonna pick up the boxes and possibly the other 2 pieces as well.
Didn’t realize that sales drove Best Match…thanks for the response.

Interesting perspective…I have 2 eBay stores and on my bigger store I sell items I buy wholesale, so I am selling over and over again the same items. Even if I am still getting regular sales (lets say weekly) I wonder if there would be any benefit to “relisting” these items or do I just let them just keep running? Any thoughts?
Brian, another record question for you…how did you come upon your big $750 score? Letgo or Craigslist? Thanks, Matt
Brian, I see you sell records…any recommendations on the best way of packing and shipping these so they get there in one piece? I got a cache of old 80’s New Wave and Prince albums a couple weeks back, but I have yet to list as I’m concerned about how to ship them safely. Thanks, -Matt
Thanks Ryanne.
