My ebay week was an anomaly, but a welcome one. I have been averaging about $100 per week over the last few months, but haven’t listed more than 10 or 15 items in a month for over a year.Little girl #2 came along Dec. 27th. Her and momma are happy and healthy. It has been nice to slow down for a while, but now it is time to crank it back up. I have started pushing stuff back into Amazon. There seem to be more limitations, but it still seems to be a good opportunity. I also purchased a house to flip, so that is going to be my main goal for the next few weeks – to get that ready to list. Once that is done I should be able to start listing on ebay again. My wife dropped to about 8 hours per week at her office, so she is going to start processing amazon stuff for me during the day. I am teaching her now.
I haven’t listened to the podcast, but I use a numbered tote system for ebay inventory, then add the tote # to custom sku field
I am glad ya’ll have insurance now, I wouldn’t want you guys to die in the streets ;). I really do believe that there is a lot of common ground in the middle that a majority of Americans can be happy and believe in the future. I also really do believe a lot of the changes in the ACA were for the better. Hopefully we are just talking a few tweaks and not a total dismantle. Maybe one day we will all be rich and not have to worry about health care costs! <– that’s my plan.
By choice, or because of costs?
Interesting, I don’t know about purchasing policies outside of the ACA, maybe we were grandfathered in?
I don’t really know how to fix the entire system, all I can speak of is my experience. Jay what was your experience? How much was your insurance before and after ACA?
Jay, we were paying $200 in taxes per month because our health insurance was not compliant with the ACA. We had purchased it well before 2008 and decided to stick with it because it was cheaper. So we had insurance at $350 per month which was non-compliant but we still had to pay the 2.5% penalty (about $200 per month). Even with the penalty it was 1/2 as much as the cheapest ACA plan.
I like the aspect of removing pre-existing conditions. I did not like the aspect of requiring everyone to purchase. I hope it gets better, I like it better
Last year our health care (family of 3) was $350 per month. It was not an ACA plan so we paid an additional $200 per month in taxes. We have had the same health insurance for 8 years. Deductible – $6k, max out of pocket $8.5k. The cheapest option through heathcare.gov was $1050 per month with $12k deductible.
With our baby being born Dec. 27 we re-evaluated, and switched our plan to an ACA plan. I assume the cost saving was because we had a family of 4. New cost $500 per month $12k deductible (with supplements at our assumed income). If the ACA tax is repealed we would immediately go back to our old insurance, finding doctors under our ACA plan has been difficult. This was a surprise to us because we researched the website thoroughly to try to keep our pediatrician. We found a plan that did, but found out later that because a doctor is listed on the website does not mean that the doctor accepts the insurance, it means the insurance accepts the doctor.
I know many on these forums like and appreciate the ACA, and I do think most of the changes were needed. I don’t understand why insurance that is inferior is so much more expensive. Comparable insurance and deductibles were in the 5x to 6x range (with no supplement). The cheapest plans were 3x as expensive with double the deductible. I also don’t understand the “everyone must get insurance that complies” demand. Seems like if the government wants to help people get insurance, provide that service, but don’t require me to drop the insurance and doctors that I like, and pay more for an inferior product.
Also a couple of weeks ago we got a notice from the IRS (I love when those come in the mail). The notice said that we needed to get insurance, and it was available through heathcare.gov and many people paid $75 per month or less. Is there anyone who is getting health insurance for $75, and if so what is that coverage like?
I use Mileage Ace. It is a stand alone device that stays in your car. There is a monthly fee, but it automatically updates through my wi-fi when I get home. I then go online and declare each trip as business or pleasure. To me the selling point is that it does not use my phone gps which seems to drain the battery excessively.
Back to the original question. I am going to attempt to use ebay to keep up with the COGS. It appears with Selling manager Pro, which is free for Premium and Anchor stores, that I can enter my COG into my listing when I create a new product. It also lets me enter a COGS into the ebay sales record of items that have sold that I did not enter a COG upon creation. Unfortunately there does not appear to be any way to add a COG to an item while it is active. Is anyone else doing this? The profit/Loss statement from ebay is not easy to read, but all I need is the numbers.
Like I said, I have not actually done this, but I am going to start 2017 by entering COGS for every item as I list.
Is there a fatal flaw that I am not seeing? Does anyone else use this method?

I thought if it was liquid, air flight was a no-no. If it travels in an unpressurized area of the plane, the interior pressure will greatly exceed the exterior pressure and you will have a coke can in the freezer moment. IMO

How do you ship Saline to Norway? You can’t put it on a plane can you?
Freds, I honestly don’t remember the exact sheet number and things have probably changed since then. But I remember dreading the process ahead of time, but when I actually sat down and did some research (the internet is a wonderful thing), the process was a lot simpler than I had dreaded. Update:I just looked, it is at the end of publication 15 from the IRS. Also, Tennessee does not have a state income tax, so it was a little simpler because of that as well. Publication 15 is 70 pages long, but a majority will not apply. The table starts on page 47.

Just a thought. I had a lawn care business with a couple of employees. withholding from their check for taxes took only a minute or two. Initially there is some set up of EIN numbers and other minor items. But week to week I had printed off a spreadsheet from the IRS, just go down the side to the gross pay, across to the number of deductions, and it gave an amount to withhold. Move the money in the bank account easy peasy.
My favorite is the radio commercials that says “most premiums are between $50 to $100 per month”. Our family of 3, middle income, cheapest rate $1050. That is with a $12k deductible. Currently we pay around $400 per month with a $6k deductible. That is up from $250 just a couple of years ago. Of course our insurance does not qualify for ACA so we pay another $200 in taxes each month, but we still come out ahead. We try to put $300 into savings per month to pay for doctors visits, since we never hit our deductible. All told our health care costs are almost 20% of our pre-tax income. If we bought through the ACA our expenses would be closer to 30%, and would pass our house note as the largest budget line item. For our situation (and everyone’s is different) it adds a later of complication. We have to re-evaluate every year because it changes every year. We have to try to predict our income, which is more difficult being self employed. We worry about paying penalties if we make too much or overpaying if we underestimate our income.
It feels like the only winners in the ACA are the insurance companies.

About 4 weeks out from baby #2 coming along (another little girl) so I am splitting my free time between nursery prep and mom to be assistance.
I am going to put off making a decision to go full time for a couple of months. I really want to buy sell full time. I am caught between doing what I will enjoy right now, or waiting and doing it as a side hustle for a few more months before jumping in full time. -
