I’ve got a Kilban cookie jar in the death piles. Thanks!
I know. We are hosting a Super Bowl party tomorrow and I just unpacked etc. from our vacation today – there goes listing on the weekend. My husband took the kids out to a game – a rarity & I should be listing! I’ve added my small haul to the death pile Pinterest page. ? http://pin.it/TDR9nwW
These silk Asian pillow cases look handmade but I’m not sure – out of my comfort zone. Pip aid $10 for the Gorges Briard bar tool set, vintage bar towel & picks. $3 for the Mcm flatware, $3 for the sheet set.02/04/2017 at 9:56 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 295: The Challenges of Changing Your Strategy #11768Tfs living room pic. It would be fun to see a video telling us where you found the items and what you paid. The clock & wood chairs are my favs. Hope you are feeling settled soon. Cheers!
Ok fessing up that I cheated and went to the rummage sale. We only have three of these a year at the Fairgounds. It was fairly large, but they allowed volunteers to pre-shop last night I overheard. 🙁 Probably good for me in a sense because I picked up a reasonable amount of items – some barware, flatware, and vintage cartoon sheets. Enough to make it fun. Now, back on the wagon. I miss the thrift stops but plenty here to process.

Interesting that Suzanne A. Wells is coming right out and saying Ebay is pushing down stale listings in search. She mentioned waiting a couple of weeks before using sell similar, which I haven’t heard before. Finally, she recommends the dribbling in daily listing approach I mentioned above – confirming without citing any authority hypothesis 2; that listing gaps reduce sales. Maybe she’s got inside intel if she’s willing to say all of this to major publication. Then again, Ebay isn’t likely to come out and contradict her. Also on my mind is another article I read about Ebay telling sellers they like new items, vs. unique. http://www.ecommercebytes.com/C/blog/blog.pl?/comments/2017/1/1483060360.html/3/40
It has me wondering if smaller Amazon sellers will move to Ebay and Ebay vintage sellers will move to Etsy. Ebay is so easy, but I’d like to see Etsy take off.02/01/2017 at 4:49 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Stetson Fedora, Leather Messenger Bag, Doc Marten Mary Janes, Bentwood Box #11600A few used items to share, but no real home runs.
I’ve sold several of these Brown Bag Cookie pans and thrift them for about $3-5. The individual cookie molds do not seem move as well. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BROWN-BAG-COOKIE-ART-Mold-1990-Animals-amp-Birds-Shortbread-Pan-Chocolate-Paper-/231779852641?rd=1
These straw trivets always sell and are always very cheap ($1/set) to pick up. Check to see if the stinging is loose by twisting. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-Woven-TRIVETS-Set-2-Raffia-Straw-Hot-Pads-Retro-Wall-Decor-APPLE-amp-HEN-/231905282432?rd=1
I was surprised that this neutral colored afghan sold very quickly. I usually go for the colorful ones. Bulky death pile item, glad to move it out -paid $3. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Handmade-Crochet-Afghan-Blanket-with-Neutral-Chevron-Pattern-Tan-amp-Ivory-/332079298152?rd=1
I’ve found a lot of these for cheap ($1-2/set) and they really sell quickly if they have Hallmark on the back.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Hallmark-Cookie-Cutters-Fall-Thanksgiving-Holiday-Turkey-Pilgrams-Set-3-/331999918009?rd=1I have not done very well with paper items on Ebay, but did finally sell these, thrifted for $1.50. I might buy again if a blockbuster movie, since I had to pay up myself online for theme supplies from an out of theatre movie (How to Train your Dragon). http://www.ebay.com/itm/STAR-WARS-Party-Plates-amp-Napkins-Episode-VII-The-Force-Awakens-Kylo-Ren-BB8-Rey-/231948267454?rd=1

I like beating dead horses, they can't fight back. #11598As a person who has the listing foot on and totally off the gas for weeks with a basic store, I can just share that I definitely get some sales right after I have a listing day. My personal experience over the last couple of years with this pattern has led me to believe that there definitely is some relationship. Items do sell when I’m not listing, but it’s way more sporadic. See Ann Save on Youtube has mentioned the rumor that putting your store in vacation mode might relieve the “no listing penalty”. I have only taken a couple of vacations with my store open, so it’s hard to have an opinion about that one. Finally, I noticed when a rare auction successfully ends in a sale, I get a little boost. It would be an interesting experiment to save up scheduled listings, and then dribble them in daily. Personally, I don’t have time to end and sell similar regularly.
TFS. I really want to learn more about Pottery. Sue’s first one I probably have seen. If I had a dollar for every brown pottery piece I have seen… The other two I think I would have picked up since they appear more refined to me.
I’ve been very good but there is one of the big three rummage sales this weekend in my area. If my husband is working, then I’ll be kind of relieved. Even if I go, I know I will be a lot more selective than in the past.

Number of items listed this week: 0 VacationCongratulations on the good sales to R&J. Fingers crossed for continued good cash flow while you complete reno. I was on vacation and sold items every day without listing. I did have two buyers cancel and one was a great sale. I had some sticker shock on shipping this morning and one item that was pretty off on the weight. I feel like my backlog just lost more value because of the higher shipping prices. Some of the things I would no longer buy may not make much sense for Ebay and I’ll definitely be looking to squeeze boxes into PFR envelopes. I never use non-padded flat rate envelopes and I wonder “Is this a great thing I’ve been missing out on?” I sell a lot of fragile items 1-2 pounds.
I went to one Goodwill in Honolulu and it was quite disappointing because I don’t sell clothes. But, that’s good because I’m on the no scavenge challenge. This week I’ll be working on listing more backlog – some more of the larger items like train cases and desk lamps is my plan. Have a great week everyone!
01/23/2017 at 4:41 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 294: Finding the Valuable Caches and Going All In #10983retro – I’m on vacation but I wanted to pop in and say I am rooting for you. My dad has had great success with weight watchers in the past and Oprah has a new cookbook. WW is a budgeting system that allows you from feeling totally deprived, and you could probably find used cheap point guide. I’m thinking of trying the cookbook because I figure with her resources she probably has some tricks in there to keep things tasty and healthy.
I think I can only give out a free pass like once a week. LOL. Keep reducing the piles no piling the piles. I love that someone tagged this hoarding. Very motivating! 🙂
I keep it out of the living space in the garage but have bought nice looking storage boxes – when I clear some piles, I’m definitely doing that. My husband parks in the garage so he’s not keen.
Good job. It does feel nice to start getting some breathing room. I’m making slow progress with the piles myself. Working on more kitchen stuff – the better stuff not death. I put up a beautiful midcentury Arabia geometric platter this weekend for $100 that came out of someone’s storage unit. I look forward to sending it to someone who will have it out and use it. 🙂
I have some trouble with this if I bought it to resell. I feel in a weird way that I need to punish myself by listing my early picks but I’m sure I’ll have some cutoff if I get into items in the $10-15 range unless lots make sense. It’ll be a lesson learned I suppose. I have discovered that since I’m only very part-time, I want to list things I am personally interested in to my taste, unless I know for sure it’s very highly collectable to others and will move.
On the other hand, we are doing a great job clearing out our own family cast offs. The school library takes all the books, we have friends who use the kids’ clothes, a teacher friend is taking some toys. I don’t have any problem letting go of the stuff we used and most of it I have no interest in listing.
