03/31/2017 at 3:11 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Spectacles, Water Ski, Prince 45, Pattern kits, Photo Enlarger #15699
Some recent bread and buttah vintage sales. Mostly my new items move out.
Paid $3.99 at Goodwill. Yeah! for this artist who has a clearly legible signature. Went to the UK via GSP. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Clemintina-Van-Der-Walt-Ceramic-Studio-Art-Plate-Platter-Colorful-South-Africa-/332156532938?rd=1This cross stitch kit sold one minute after posting. Designer is Ursula Michael. I paid $6 because the old ladies who price at the Indy thrift like sewing stuff. Usually I pay $1-3 for kits and they are so easy to list and ship.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Counted-Cross-Stitch-Kit-Ursula-Michael-With-Faith-All-Things-Possible-Religous-/332165520752?rd=1These took over a year to sell I think. This is the kind of item I think might do better on Etsy. Paid $3 at a flea market.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Children-039-s-Book-Set-1960s-Retro-Nursery-Books-Decor-Aesops-Fables-/231963480249?rd=1Wow, yeah. That’s so interesting and bold. Definitely a mismatch with the frame, but maybe your skills include framing? Paying for custom framing is so painful.
03/29/2017 at 8:09 am in reply to: Part 1 of a 2 week 'What Sells' video Gold, Christmas and Summer Clothes #15535Just wanted to say I like your YouTube style. Not too chatty, proper grammar, and practical information. I also love it when experienced sellers discuss how items are selling better or not as well as they used to, mention the time something took to sell, and the degree of packing difficulty. There are few Youtubers who I still watch but I’ve subscribed. TFS!
Beth, this is my thinking exactly. I’m on the fence about signing up because I always ship the following morning and usually take my item directly to the post office bin on my way to work. However, there are occasions where I didn’t get a timely scan or I want to leave it in the mailbox. I might sign up for first class weight items to test it out and see if I notice an uptick in sales. I’m on the coast and often ship across the country. When I print priority mail labels it often says “3 day” right on there after it prints.
03/27/2017 at 10:56 am in reply to: Pottery mystery initials; How to describe coloration and style of MCM pitcher #15390Thanks! Went through a box of art this weekend. Over half was easy to reasearch or just regional amateur art. Do have a couple of pieces though that I’m not even sure what medium they are in. If you ladies get tired of helping, let me know! Here’s a few links in case you are not.
This is on linen paper. Can’t tell what kind of medium. Looks layered. Tough to read signature on last name.

Above is either a woodcut, lithograph, or giclee – have no idea how to tell even after reviewing the great website on this artist.Next two photos are same piece.

Items listed this week: +/- 28! (ended some stale ones too)Pretty good week for me. Kids are out of town for Spring Break and should have hit my taxes, but I just had a lovely weekend of quiet listing vintage piles and reorganizing. My fellow parent sellers know how golden that is. No grocery shopping, cooking, laundry, dr. appointments, etc. Just me and the pets and the piles. Feels really great except I’m wondering now if I’m a slow lister :(. This has me questioning whether I have the time for Etsy this year.
I’m one of the coffee mug rehab people. I felt nervous at first about shipping so I started with coffee mugs so I could get the hang of things in a controlled way. Have about 5 bankers boxes of them in the garage. However, after listing puzzling original art and pottery this weekend, those easy to list mugs sound pretty darn good. Hats off to R&J for pouring over tons of ephemera and other piles of unique items. I find myself kind of grateful for the piles so I can switch between types of items (they are largely sorted). Still focusing mainly on getting rid of larger items.
I did treat myself to two thrift store stops this week despite the challenge since I got off work early on Friday. All I purchased was a gorgeous midcentury walnut salad set and a midcentury pitcher. Paid up a bit for them but that is the plan of evolution going forward. It’s about picking the items that glow but also about leaving behind the ones that aren’t worth shipping and the time processing. Lately I’m factoring in the higher shipping costs too now that I understand that better.

03/26/2017 at 2:46 pm in reply to: Pottery mystery initials; How to describe coloration and style of MCM pitcher #15326Thanks Sue. No wonder I’m confused. It doesn’t look like the studio pottery I’m used to, but rather a manufactured piece. The initials didn’t make sense until you explained this. It’s nicely painted.

# items listed: About 10My daughter was sick and home from school and I took the opportunity to list a bunch of bulky items, including some studio art pottery, paintings, and train cases. The art and pottery is a challenge with the pricing and some of the pottery marks were hard to identify. Thanks to those in the forum who assisted. It felt like a slow week but was better that I thought when I ran the numbers. Hoping to keep attacking the backlog, continuing with more bulky items.
Yep. Thanks again. I’ll probably be adding to that Pinterest board as I process some more items in case you are up for more mysteries. I did list a couple others this week that were clearly marked. It’s so nice to find that. I don’t know the lingo but trying to learn. The FB groups seem to have more people asking for help than providing it. I’ll look into Reddit.
Thanks everyone. Someone else actually has a listing for these on Ebay. They just put “Rare” so I guess they didn’t have much luck researching them either.

More pottery coming up to list with more illegible signatures. Do you ever put a guess Robert Picault ? in the title in case your guess is correct? I found the linen collectors will help me out via messages. Wonder if the pottery collectors will. I certainly don’t want to misrepresent the item.Great thanks! I”ve asked to join that group.
Total Items in store: 295
Items sold: 12
Cost of items sold: approx. $161 New + $8 Used
Total Sales: $474

Average price sold: $40
Number of items listed this week: +/-12A better week. Still busy but I did get more Easter items posted. I’ve been working on a bit of store maintenance and it’s a little bit frustrating to see the recommendations from Ebay. Some of my items are significantly under the average price, but they just want me to put free shipping on everything. Hmm.
I’m still on my no scavenge challenge but I’m sitting at my computer Saturday morning and suddenly see all kinds of cars coming and going on our usually quiet cul-de-sac. There was an estate sale at the former home of an 85 year old lady literally around the corner. Since it came to me I decided it wasn’t cheating. The people running the sales were pricing crazy low and the place was crawling with people – she had no kids and they were looking to clear the house. It turns out this company let in their antique mall people the day before. I ended up buying mostly potted plants and everywhere there was the ghost of great items that had been recently picked. On the desk was a slide rule instruction booklet for example – no slide rule. After my backlog is clear someday, I’m joining Brian and Paul at estate sales. Much of the town was built up in the 1960s and the prices are all over the place but I’ll keep educating myself so I can spot things others miss. That’s the real thrill of it!
All of my peaks are listing days plus MLK weekend and the day after I put my store in vacation mode. So some items are being shown each day but definitely a correlation. My best listing days are adding only 10 items in a 350 item store, but some peaks were listing just 2 items.
You’re welcome Mike. I also like this gal, Carly, who doesn’t cross post so much but sometimes discusses in her videos which platform she lists on. She also uses a photo editor effectively to make the most of her 5 photos. Here’s a link to her channel playlist with a listing how to
I’m sure there are others, but these are just two who I found. Don’t forget to report back. People often say their stores are slow to take off in Etsy. I suggest pinning your listings when you create or revise them. -
