or it might get more Ebay eyes over here.
07/09/2018 at 10:31 am in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #2 From Week 19 (May 7-13) #44855Sat down 4 times to list – yeah! Listed some on Mercari that I’m not counting. Listed 24 on Ebay, 9 from piles.
I know about the bibles but just can’t get into them. I usually pick up the ones my kids owned or liked. Here’s a couple of mine (incomplete 70s, 80s series) and some others I have sold in the past. You could google young adult series or go to Amazon, etc. and check out what’s popular. Or reverse it and wait until you find a whole set together and scan it.

Highest price sold: $71 (New 25 purchased on clearance for about $25)
Average price sold: $27

Money spent on new inventory: $0
Number of items listed on Ebay this week: 22Mercari: 31 items listed, 0 sales, 14 listed this week (some Disney cross posted – super fast to cross post)
Soft week definitely despite listing, pinning, and running a 20% sale as soon as they lifted the 14 day restriction. In the past sales have worked well for a bump and I usually got 1-2 immediate sales right after a listing session. I think summer plus all of the back end stuff is probably affecting things at least for some. I got used to the reward for my efforts – like a slot machine, so it’s a little bit discouraging.
Getting likes on Mercari but no sales yet. I’m checking out the solds now and then to see what is moving. Prices are definitely lower, solds are more pop culture and younger brands it seems. Picking inventory for Mercari is key I believe. I’m going to throw some Pyrex on there when I get back from vacation as shipping will be less expensive and that is a popular vintage category on Mercari. If you are in an area where it’s difficult to source (seasonally at least), you might check it out. Some cool things move there for cheap, and Mercari has a simple system encouraging sellers to promote by dropping the price 10% and notifying shoppers who have liked the item. They also encourage offers. Plus it’s so quick to list, people could do a higher volume business and let things go for less.
Going to be a very busy week outside Ebay, followed by our summer vacation, so hoping for some sales before we go. I got a response after about 5 days on the Ebay Facebook page to my request for a fee break. They asked me to submit all of my info and some listings with missing photos. By the way, you were mentioned on Ecommercebytes as first bringing up the pay per click beta discussion. Have a great week!
I like to sell popular children and young adult series (complete if I can get them all) as a lot. Good item to look for at yard sales. It’s a deal for the buyer vs. buying them individually. I also stumbled on to this vintage out of print phonics set recently. Crazy prices because some famous home school teacher endorsed.
About 2% of my items. I’ve noticed several missing two or three different times. So, less than 2% of what I have ever listed because some listings have been sold without incident. One of the newest missing was a very expensive item though, so glad I picked that up.

Hi All, I’ve been working on consolidating my inventory this week. Have plenty of time since I don’t need to be -ahem – shipping out any sales this week. I’ve noticed quite a few missing listings that have dropped off. I only do good til cancelled, and don’t relist every 30 days. They are not vero things either. Not sure what happened but I’ve found three today. Luckily I have the photos in the Pinterest links. Just thought I would share this in case you have the occasion to check out your inventory.
07/06/2018 at 11:58 am in reply to: Scanning Photos in eBay Listings & Reimbursement from eBay for Missing Photos #44599I sent a message asking for a break on the Facebook Ebay for Business site. No answer after a couple days so far…
I didn’t do very well picking this year. You know those times when you can totally tell that the volunteers have been able to pick before it opens to the public? Yeah, that was it. But, I did still find a few practical items for our family and two $15-20 items for resale.
This is fun thread. I’ve definitely made some of these errors.
My favorite is to see a really cool vintage item, buy it and then look it up at home only to find that a bunch of other sellers have the item in better condition, complete with the rest of the set, etc. Case in point:
These cute midcentury aqua! apple bowls
Here’s the complete set, which only sells for $20-30.
07/04/2018 at 4:37 pm in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #2 From Week 19 (May 7-13) #44473Thanks Sharon. Yeah, I feel like maybe I’m being a bit too stubborn about it. I don’t have box lots, I purchased it all intentionally (except the items from my dad’s our our house). I decided under $10 or with condition issues and it gets donated. I just didn’t realize back then how long it takes to list and how much better stuff is available. It’s so easy to source around here and for the most part, I really only have time to list what I actually like myself. Just because you can make money on it, doesn’t make it fun to list.
Amatino, I vote for 10 a week too. My goal is to up the times per week I sit down to list.
07/04/2018 at 2:27 pm in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #2 From Week 19 (May 7-13) #44460Thanks Amatino for your work keeping up the challenge! It’s a bit depressing I think to see how little I was able to list over the course of a half year, but on the other hand I have definitely made progress on the piles and cut shopping to a minimum. I’ve been able to consolidate my inventory because I’ve seen room open up! 🙂
Unfortunately, I’m still feeling overwhelmed by stuff right now! Ebay listed and unlisted are all stored in my garage and one closet. Also in the garage is stuff to sell from my dad’s house as he gets ready to make a move plus all of our family photos. Now we are about to remodel our kitchen and have to pack everything in that room up. Ugh! My kids are also at transition ages, I’ve recent changed clothing sizes (unfortunately) and we just really need to keep cleaning out. I’m not at all a person who enjoys clutter.
Good news is that I think I shall be cured from overbuying to resell ever again! I saw a post on Facebook that a lady just up and donated all of her death piles to get a fresh start. I vowed not to do that so I will only buy the things I don’t mind listing that are worthwhile going forward. No pain, no gain! As a reseller, it’s somewhat hard to donate items that I can make $10+ on and yard sales have been hit and miss. I’m really hoping Mercari works out for some of my piles because I can really get a lot listed over there quickly. Happy 4th!
I can’t run a sale on any GTC items either because I just finished a sale end of last week. Bummer because of the holiday. It says the items can’t be found or some such thing. I hope they backtrack on this.
Simon, please let me know how it goes with the Breyer horses. Among the piles are my own from the 70s. I’m not sure how much condition matters but they were played with. My daughter had no interest so they will get listed eventually. Did you find that good site http://www.identifyyourbreyer.com/
07/02/2018 at 11:16 am in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #2 From Week 19 (May 7-13) #44191Listed 9 items on Ebay. I’m not counting my Mercari experiment as those are our own items not really piles. I did list my afghans per the challenge and decided to donate a couple. Hope they move out soon! Thanks ladies.
