Ack shipping labels are down. Ebay misspelled apologize. Sheesh.
Happy to report that I listed 50 items on Ebay and 12 on Mercari. I lit my campfire scented candle and it was raining mornings so the lighting was bad but I plowed through. Very cozy and good for the soul as I pulled a couple of death pile boxes out and half a Christmas vintage bin. I donated about 10 items – found some stained vintage tablecloths and small stuff that I can hardly believe I bothered to purchase. (shakes head)
I did have some down time while the girls were at the ice rink so I went thrifting once. The Christmas was not really good this year. I didn’t purchase too much, which is good. I passed on the second day of the thrift boutique, which is also good. I let myself go the first day last week.
Have a great week ladies.

Number of New Items Listed this Week: 50 Ebay, 12 MercariGreat week of listing for once. Kids slept late during the break and we didn’t travel. I got a couple of death pile boxes out plus dug up some low dollar Christmas I don’t want to keep around another year. Feeling good about getting into the death piles.
ASP pretty bad on Ebay as I was again taking a lot of offers. Some
Thanksgiving stuff that didn’t sell. I tend to cut loose holiday stuff that makes it through the holidays now since I’m trying to downsize. Sales were really good until Black Friday hit.Mercari seemed to pick up. I’m wondering if they are paying more to Google again for a holiday push. Updated the Mercari app and they have switched to calculated shipping, which will be cumbersome to newbies and casual sellers compared to their last button click system. I guess they didn’t have a choice since USPS shrunk the dim weight standards. Bummer though and no flat rate options yet.
We almost were evacuated with the big fire nearby but thankfully no homes were lost on this one. Looked pretty impressive from the end of our street. It was pretty close so kind of lost productivity and income for a couple of days on my regular job and Ebay.
It’s a good time of year to list those ornaments. I had a bunch of Hallmark ornaments last year that I liquidated individually around this time. There were a few that were worth $30-40 but some were under $10. I didn’t want to carry them all year in inventory so I priced $1 or $2 below the going rate and they all sold by January. Those that were left after Christmas I marked further down. You can try looking on Ebay solds to see how mixed lots do but if someone is collecting a line, they might not want unrelated ornaments. Most have bar codes so you can scan that on the mobile app for faster listing.
Hi Ladies, 9 items for me, all unique. A lot of family time, which while enjoyable is really not allowing for a lot of listing time. They are out of school all week, but I hope to get a couple of sessions in. More teen growth happening as well, so it’s tough.
Congrats to you Amatino on clearing out your space. Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

Number of items listed this week: 9Enjoyed the podcast. It will be really interesting to see whether or not you’ve had a significant number of items fall off listings. I’ve experienced that without sell similar but it’s a very small percentage of my items.
It was a good week for me on Ebay but family stuff kept me from doing a lot of listing, which I’m very in the mood to do. Also treated myself to a fabulous annual thrift sale and just bought just 4 items for resale. Most of the items I bought at last month’s rummage sale sold. I feel like I am a better picker and able to pass on lower end items, which is good because there is still plenty of backlog left. Again, happy about Terapeak access too. A lot of my Ebay and Mercari activity is offer driven these days. I sold a death pile newbie Starbucks mug this week so yeah! for that.
My millennial coworker friends are discovering Mercari for good deals and I’m really hoping it continues to build. Things sell for lower prices but it’s a great outlet for our personal stuff. Also, I am trying some vintage items that have a lot of low comp items on Ebay and they haven’t all sold, but I think they get way more exposure on Mercari. Eg. Aqua Ball Jars, a bad buy on my part. I’ve decided though for bookkeeping, tax and time saving purposes to put my reselling items on Ebay, because I have a program to suck out the data there. I once aspired to open an Etsy store, but it’s way too much time.
Have a great week reselling.
Thanks Simon. Yes, it can be challenging at times. I hope your son is doing very well. That’s a big transition year for everyone.

* Number of items listed this week: 4Old listings are continuing to sell over on Mercari, including Christmas stuff I had thought about deleting. Over on Ebay, I’m selling the newer listings mostly. I don’t know if that’s because of Terapeak guidance or ?
One of my teens has a lot of personal growth going on, so it wasn’t a great week for listing and full of highs and lows. Hoping for better listing opportunities this coming week. I’m working on selling off some of my kids Legos and toys on Facebook to move them out quickly.
I’m interested in the conversations about why Ebay might be slower. Still need to listen to most of the Podcast. Have a good week.
Just 4 for me, though I did finally get going on my potentially valuable modern painting. I’ve been scared to list that art. Lots of teen drama and stress going on around here so Ebay listing on the back burner. VL hope you are feeling better.
Article re limit on hobby expenses
I’m not sure exactly what happened from your post, but it would be odd for the IRS to send a 1099k request for the current tax year.
Re COGS, just do your best and pull his credit card history, checkbook register, paypal transaction download etc. and review. Good luck!
@Simon re sales tax discussion from last week: Cleaning out my email and got a notice from the CDTFA:
“I sell tangible merchandise exclusively online through a marketplace facilitator who is registered with the CDTFA and will be collecting and paying the tax on my facilitated sales beginning October 1, 2019. Can I close my account with the CDTFA?
Yes, beginning October 1, 2019, you are not required to be registered as a retailer with the CDTFA if all of your sales of tangible merchandise are facilitated by marketplace facilitators who are the retailers for purposes of those sales. However, if you make any sales other than those facilitated by a marketplace facilitator, for example, through your own website, you may be required to be registered (see General Registration Requirements heading).”
@Mezz that would be worth trying. Really easy to put away. I don’t like evidence of Ebay in my living space but we don’t have basements in Cali and I don’t have a spare room either. @Amatino I’m so lazy I don’t even want to take down a lightbox over and over. When I have time for Ebay, it gets abruptly interrupted. Thanks for the replies.
@Simon I seem to get the same items again and again on Ebay. I wish they would offer more options. Maybe doing it once a week as you are doing would be better. I like Sunday mornings figuring more people are online.
@Temudgin thanks so much. I took your shipping advice. I definitely am not messing with international shipping on this one. Hope it goes ok. I’m launching the action today!
I’m finally listing this painting. I looked online and was cautioned that UPS and FedEx exclude valuable art from their insurance, so I guess I will go with shipsaver. I looked at their website and can’t find the limits for the carriers but the rates are higher for USPS. Anyone have advice? I’m nervous!
