25 bucks for me and some home baked cookies–the cookies are worth more (if you ask anyone who eats them–my wife is famous for this stuff–and low and behold I don’t eat sweets?)

Another note on soles falling apart–this has happened to a lot of higher end brands (in the early to mid 2000’s) I guess they were using a product for the mold of their shoe that worked better than the old product–provided the shoes were being used. Once the shoes sat for a while–the soles became brittle and only after a couple of times wearing them begin to fall apart. For this reason I stay away from Ecco shoes without leather soles as I have had this happen twice to customers and once to myself. The shoes looked pristine–but it sucks to be at work and watch your shoes fall apart and have no back-up pair. Customers will be unhappy if they buy them to go to a wedding and they start to fall apart on the dance floor.

I don’t know if this is possible for all, and it seems like you already have an eBay buddy–but what I do when I feel burned out is go on a thrift run with my eBay buddy and it sparks a new fire in me–partly because we talk the business and I feel my eBay sorrows are halved–when he is around to share them with. I usually get to learn something new that he teaches me and I share something new I learned with him. We share in our successes too and it is always good to talk shop with someone who knows the business.

What I got out of this was that yes it is probably a good idea for a beginner who has a small store as it will give you a good idea of the packing and shipping process. To scale up is probably not a good idea for me as I am already at 200+ items and it seems more isn’t easier. Fragile items could probably be packed up (if you don’t have a ton of them) as it might help keep them from breakage.

My system–If you can call it that is whenever possible get clear totes with lid attached. When a lid from a sturdy rubbermaid tote falls on the ground in my garage and gets run over by one of my kids bikes—I get upset. Spending a couple of more bucks for the ones that have the split lid (attached style) top is a winner for me.
I stack on the floor of my garage about 6 high and they have all seemed to hold up well–again with the exception of some lids from the totes that aren’t attached to the tote itself. Hence, whenever possible (actually whenever I see them at a thrift store or garage sale) I only pick these up for storage. I won’t be buying removable lid storage totes anymore.

Casper87 from California. I work to feed and scavenge to play–or actually scavenge so my kids can play. I am a part-timer as I do my 40 hours for the man and 20-40 hours a month as President of Excellent Junk. I even had cards printed!
thanks a million–it’s weird I have been listening to the podcast for more than a year and heard this all before, but I still oftentimes have this feeling deep in my gut that I am going to get stiffed–unfounded idea I know, as the worst I have gotten from overseas is a neutral feedback.
