O, awesome. If you really do have an original WM-10, that’s big money even if not working!

I usually notice when I get to the bottom and it says “Estimated fees: $1.00” or something… then I have to go back and figure out what’s checked.
02/13/2017 at 2:13 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 297: Being Frugal vs Running A Business #12427Click on the 2 sold… sale price was actually $7.94 (which is still high, but not as ridiculous). I bet the seller is updating the listing and just put a ridic price on so they don’t sell during the update.
02/13/2017 at 1:44 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 297: Being Frugal vs Running A Business #12419I find that around here in the NYC burbs also… there are some very savvy yard sellers that have on each month so nothing is super cheap. But also, there’s just so much volume that you can certainly find bargains if you put in a little effort & are patient.
02/13/2017 at 12:57 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 297: Being Frugal vs Running A Business #12415Store Week 2/5/17 – 2/11/17
Total items in store: 744
Items sold: 11
Cost of items sold: $68
Total sales: $468.45
Highest price sold: $135 (Sony D-88 Discman for parts)
Average price sold: $42.59
International Sales: 3
Returns: 1
Money spent on new inventory this week: $81
New listings: 23Pleased with the week especially keeping COGS down at around 15% – not as good as others on the blog, but anything below 20% works for me since I usually have to pay more in sourcing in the greater NYC area. The Discman was a great sale ($5 COGS) and also a Star Wars toy for $120 ($40 COGS) really drove my week.
The return was my first record ever returned because of not being able to play it. The buyer was pretty upset to start, but when I offered Hassle Free returns and sent him the prepaid label, he was very grateful and reasonable.
In other big news, for the shipping nerds out there, I got positive feedback from that lot of phonograph records “Exceptional Packing – great product – Thank You!” that I was worried about. The lot sold for $500 (for $20 COGS), so I insured the box that weighed nearly 20lbs. I wrapped the records in stacks of 10 in thick bubble wrap, stood them on end and lined them up instead of stacking on top of each other, then put air pillows in all of the creases/corners, then a generous amount of packing peanuts for padding. All worked out great!

02/09/2017 at 2:16 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Abacus, Matches, Headphones, Fanny Pack, Piano Lamp #12160Yeah, there’s always back and forth on here about how much to pay for things, but I’ll take $80 profit any day even if it’s only 3x ROI. I like the balance of things I sourced cheaply and things that I paid up for the quality.
02/09/2017 at 1:49 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Abacus, Matches, Headphones, Fanny Pack, Piano Lamp #12156Awesome sales, Steven… one day I’ll have the patience to part things out to maximize profits. Right now if I have something that doesn’t work, I’ll sell the whole thing for parts (see below).
1988 Sony D-88 Discman Untested As Is
http://www.ebay.com/itm/192097081914
Got this at the flea market for $5. No power cords or anything, so I looked up the manual online to find what power source it needed, ordered that power source on eBay for $15, but it ended up not actually fitting right. Sold as is for $135 to England within an hour of listing. If it works or can be fixed, it’s worth close to $250-$300. Really interesting history on this Discman and why it’s obsolete: https://youtu.be/AowJGns66_41979 Star Wars Patrol Dewback

One of those things that I paid up for at a high end vintage toy collector’s estate sale… paid $40 and ended up selling for $120, but it keeps nicer things in my store. Also headed to England.1982 Michael Jackson Thriller LP

02/06/2017 at 11:04 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 296: Are You Keeping Up With Your Inventory System? #11856It was this sale from last Sunday: http://www.ebay.com/itm/192090827002
I talked about it on last week’s Sunday post (http://www.scavengerlife.com/forums/topic/scavenger-life-episode-295-the-challenges-of-changing-your-strategy#post-11402) and also the Wednesday What Sold (http://www.scavengerlife.com/forums/topic/what-sells-on-ebay-stetson-fedora-leather-messenger-bag-doc-marten-mary-janes-bentwood-box#post-11602) post because I was so jazzed about it, but technically it didn’t hit until this week’s sales. It was part of the long winded post that I lost today 🙂
02/06/2017 at 9:43 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 296: Are You Keeping Up With Your Inventory System? #11836Bah, I finished a nice long post and there was an error and I lost it. Forgot most of what I wrote, so here are just my numbers again:

Money spent on new inventory this week: $96Hey Amanda! What part of Pittsburgh are you from? My family is from there, but moved away to central PA (Gettysburg) before I was born. I just went back for Christmas to see family from as far east as Monroeville to as far west as Steunbenville, OH (and everywhere in between). My brother is a full time seller on Amazon and lives in Washington, PA.

02/01/2017 at 6:27 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Stetson Fedora, Leather Messenger Bag, Doc Marten Mary Janes, Bentwood Box #11610Well, there’s a couple layers to record collectors that I’ve found. There’s ones that are just getting into records and want entry level stuff – good copy, no scratches, nice cover – and that’s probably what I specialize in. Then you have the audiophiles that NEED the most pristine versions and versions that might be directly from the master recordings (usually marked “MFSL” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Fidelity_Sound_Lab). Then there are collectors that want the first pressings only – look at the deadwax in the middle and you’ll see a matrix of numbers/letters. Side One with A1 and Side Two with B1 at the ends are what you want for those guys. Even a warped record with A1/B1 could be worth it. Otherwise it would probably be a wall hanger if it had a really nice cover.

Have to start here. For those of your that read the posts from Monday, this is old news. For those of you that haven’t, I picked these up on the third day of an estate sale with everything super picked over. Sitting on a table in a box, paid $20 for them. After researching, saw individually they could sell for big bucks if they were European language like French, German, and even Jewish recordings – presumably because they were destroyed after two World Wars. Didn’t look like I had anything like that, but common ones regularly sold for $5-$10. Put them up high to see what happened, and they sold for full price ($500) within 5 minutes of posting. They are en route now to outside of Seattle. I’ll feel much better when they arrive in one piece.Pink Floyd – Dark Side of the Moon LP

Bread & butter, records. Bought for $1, sold for $35,Vintage Brass Bald Eagle belt buckle

Another type of item I always pick up if cheap – old brass belt buckles. Sold for $25 best offer.John Derian Decoupage tray

Nervous about this one. Took a best offer of $130 because it’s been sitting for a while, buyer still hasn’t paid. This is actually the second time it’s sold, and the buyer didn’t pay the first time either. -
