I’m going to start using the send offer feature quite a bit more. I had only dabbled with it a little until listening to this last episode. I heard that part while I was on the way to an oil change, so that was a great way to kill some time in the waiting room. I had one employee send offers on our two smaller accounts and that has led to almost $1400 in sales for about 20 items. It’s a great feature, thanks for making me take another look at it!
Thanks! Ebay has been great. It allows us to reach so many customers that we’d otherwise have no way to reach. I’ve got three working on ebay approximately full time (they have pretty flexible schedules) and another part time. Between the three accounts we have about 1300 pieces up for sale. I prefer a relatively quick turnover so when things sit around for a while I tend to cut the prices.
I guess I’ve never broken down the numbers but my estimate would be 10-15% of a month’s sales go to those kinds of customers. Sometimes it can be 25% or higher if you’ve got one or two big sales.
Over the course of a year, I think eBay is around 40% of annual sales- perhaps a little lower but no less than a third.
I have a couple of reasons for that. One is that each account is run by a different employee. That helps keep things separate so that each person can be responsible for their own questions shipping etc.
The other is for those customers who are buying multiple items and want stuff that is all in the same vein. This could cover collectors, film and TV costumers, or people who have retail operations in big cities other countries.
