VT is correct. The December challenge ended on Thursday night, you were supposed to log your final totals on Friday. JR needs to let us know who the winners are.
The weekly numbers ends tomorrow, post your numbers on Monday, here, in this thread. The new year will begin on Monday and the new thread will start for posting the following week. I’ll get it set up on Tuesday or Wednesday so that there’s no confusion. There will also be a pop up challenge for you.
Welcome to the group, JJCatfinder! I love your positive outlook. Those who know me know that I always try to find the positives in everything, but I’m always up for a giggle!
Julie B, VL, VT, and all others, you’re very welcome. I’m thrilled that you all find this little corner helpful and inspiring. On to greatness in 2021!
Next week… this week we’re still posting in this thread! LOL
December Challenge: JR – can you allocate winners for the December challenge? I’ve been running the numbers on the spreadsheet under the Dec tab so you can see who logged what. Everyone else had better check the spreadsheet to make sure it’s up to date with the correct numbers!
January Challenge!
Pick one box from your Death Piles. Size and content/quantity therein irrelevant. This goal is aaaaaalllllll about reducing the DPs. List EVERYTHING in that box. This month’s challenge is a lottery – for each box you empty you get one entry into the draw. At the end of the month, I will allocate numbers to each person and use a random number generator to draw first, second, and third places (although the same person cannot win more than one place), with one participation point to everyone who joins in the fun. Last day to post is January 31st, winners will be announced February 1st.
Beware of getting too excited about 2021. If you think about it, it could be more like this…

I use “online reseller” or “entrepreneur” (usually followed by online reseller for the occasional “what do you sell?” LOL)
Libby, tried looking for your channel on Google Podcasts but you didn’t come up.
I would answer immediately, not wait. Look up the tracking information and reply something like
“So sorry to hear your item has not been delivered. Due to COVID vaccine deliveries being routed through couriers, the USPS has been handling unprecedented levels of parcels and many, many items are still en route. I’ve looked up the tracking on this item and it says that it is currently in ……….. and is on its way. The tracking number is …………. if you would like to look it up yourself. I will check in with it daily and send you updates. I understand your frustration and disappointment, and request your patience, as it is currently out of my control.”
Then be sure to send updates. Most people are aware of the COVID delays.
8. If you don’t like a gift, no problem! You’ll sell it!
Actually, how long do you keep gifts before you sell them? I’ve been given the fugliest thing ever; a candle that smells like a cross between a public urinal and creepy-old-man cologne, and an ugly stand to go with it. Very shabby chic kind of look. Not my style! I’m not sure I can sell the candle. I’ll probably have it returned for “stank!” š
Hmmmm…. looks like the Forum doesn’t like me! It buried my Christmas joke thread and entirely disintegrated my message here!
Spreadsheet was updated before Utahbill posted, so I’m thrilled you’re on the mend! I’ll go update it with your numbers.
Congratulations Julie on a terrific milestone! I’m just under halfway behind you. My goal will be to make it there by next year!
VL, that sucks rotten eggs! Can you contact eBay and get them to fix it?
May I take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas! May your Zooms be happy and filled with laughter, and your rooms filled with joy even if they’re not full of people.
An email just came in from Wyze regarding their shipping issues and I thought the wording was excellent. For those of you wanting to send messages to your buyers, I copy the text below for you to get some ideas:
While I’m working to get these updates to you, my ask in return is that you please keep in mindĀ that we’re living in unprecedented times.Ā There’s a LOT of stress on shipping infrastructure and manufacturing processes worldwide right now. Not only are shipping carriersĀ moving unfathomable amounts of packages, but they’re doing soĀ during a pandemic that could shut down both manufacturing and shipping along the way at a momentās notice.Ā I’m working super hard, butĀ our shipping carriers, internal teams, and our external partners are working even harder.Ā I’d ask you to hug a postal worker or FedEx employee… but we’re in a pandemic.Ā So pleaseĀ just tell them that Jimmy from Wyze appreciates them and so do you.
Oh, Utahbill! That’s awful! Sending best wishes for a swift and full recovery!
Spreadsheet updated and VT takes the win! Go you!
Now, I’m going to do something odd here, but I’m using the fact that it is a Leap Year to justify it. Our year ends on Thursday, so most of the last week of December is in week 53. Next year, if I start at week 1 will end with 53 weeks, due to the strange set up of the dates. But hey, it’s 2020. Why shouldn’t we have a 53 week year? LOL.
This means that we have three more check in days for this year and for you to post listings for the Patriotic/Red White & Blue Challenge. I’m not going to post any more pop up challenges, as it’s in crazy season already.
So, three more Mondays! Make ’em count!
I’ve been incredibly lucky. Two claims of non-delivery were delivered, one to a patient buyer, one that I thought I was going to be out over $100 finally made it; now I have only one order outstanding with no word from the buyer. Yet. All my other orders show delivered. Great news!
However, today I was in the post office with a line that wrapped around the building. I made it to the counter AFTER closing time, and the line was as long by then as it was when I started. It’s unbelievable how big the issue has become! Or as Ryanne said – unprecedented! So I’m closing my store down as well from this Friday until January 11th. I can’t afford to refund folks, and I have a lot of big ticket items. If I get a bunch of large orders with Christmas non-delivery claims, I’ll be in trouble. I’d rather lose the business than lose the money.
As a buyer, I’m still waiting on items that were shipped in SEPTEMBER! I emailed one of the sellers to ask if they had heard anything, thinking that items in September were before the mad rush of Thanksgiving, and they didn’t reply, just refunded me immediately. If the item ever does come in, I will send them the money, no question, but they’ve obviously reached the point of zero tolerance that they’re not even asking for patience!
12/14/2020 at 8:58 pm in reply to: We Put Our Store on Vacation a 2nd Time Due to USPS Problems #84302Today I had to go to the post office the next town over as I missed the time for our local one. The queue was all around the building when I got there half an hour before closing. I made it to the counter at one minute past closing time, and the queue was as long when I left as it was when I started. Fortunately the staff showed no intention of closing on time, or I think they’d have had a riot! I felt so bad for them, but sheesh!
I think I’m going to put my store on vacation too. Good idea, MP. Thanks for the tip. I’ve had a few complaints and I think it’s only going to get worse.
We will, VL.
Anyone want to suggest a January challenge?
