Thanks for the link, PP.
I got a couple good points from another TRS. She said to start searching eBay for the item and then look at what comes up in the dropdown. Like when you are searching for Bob Marley and the Wailers, per OP, put in Bob Marley and then look at the suggestions eBay gives you. Use the topmost search term for your listing, then add descriptives to reach your full character allotment.
The other point she made (and I’ve seen this discussed elsewhere on this forum) is that the first 3-5 words fall into Cassini search. So, back to the OP, Bob Marley & The Wailers takes up all five words, but has no descriptive items that would trigger for a buyer. It could be referring to a CD, poster, hat, shirt, etc. Change to Bob Marley T-shirt Wailers and you may have much more views!
Well, that’s her advice anyway. I’ve been working on this principle lately and my sales have improved. I’ve been listing more consistently, so that counts too, but I’ve noticed that where I’ve edited old listings to the new format per above, those items are selling, where they’ve been sitting for the past year. Could be coincidence, but I’m sticking with the format for now.

Oh, and I LOVE that you have a white picket fence! LOL
If she replies in eBay mail that she’s happy with 50% because she’s going to use it as a display plate, why be out the other 50% and shipping?
You’ll have the mail as proof if there is any further action.
Karen, loved your idea. Then had a vision in my mind of a really bottom-level price on Item B and how the shocked look would be you trying to figure out how to get out of it. It made me laugh and I had to share! 😀
IMHO, getting it back means you have to sell it now that you know it is defective. Do you want it back? How much of a refund is she wanting and does that make it worth getting it back? If she’s happy with a $5 to $8 refund, you sold the plate for $15/12 and don’t have to process the listing again. If it were my item, I’d go for the partial and not have the hassle of getting it back and relisting, knowing that it’s going to be worth less with the crack.
04/25/2017 at 10:39 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 307: Getting Ready to Sell While Traveling #17078Steven S and MDC Galleries: thank you. I didn’t know color was not an INAD and I accepted the return, with preprinted label, so I’m in for it. I will know for future.
davidbloop: thanks for the positive encouragement. I’m planning to hit 3,000 items in my store by year end. I had 20 per day in my original goals from J&L posts, but have discovered that I cannot make those numbers (one man operation) but that 10 a day is my golden number. So set myself to 50 per week, in the hopes that I can make up for shortfalls over a weekend if necessary. Doesn’t work when I’m in another city, though! LOL. Oddly enough, posting my numbers here on the forum is a huge motivation. I don’t want to “fail” in front of the Elves! Ha!
Oh, and I’m joining the headstones on the side of the Death Pile Oregon Trail. I live in a small community that likes the idea of “helping out” and have been receiving so much stuff just lately. My Subaru Forester is packed to the hilt with my latest haul, which includes 15 pairs of shoes, a framed Doctor Who poster, a large box of barbie toys including a Britney Spears model and a bath, complete with faucets, clothes, computer games, porcelain-face dolls, plush, and a host of other items that I didn’t get to look at because the lady was cramming it all into boxes. Tomorrow I’m going to pick up another load of clothes, shoes, and shelves from a lady in the neighborhood, and I have an invitation to another widow’s house to collect a bunch of art, a full-length leather coat, and some CDs. They feel good about helping me with my business, and are thrilled to have their spring clearout done so easily. I don’t want to turn off the tap (free inventory) but am a little overwhelmed at the ever increasing size of my stash. My husband is going to have a shit fit when he gets back! I’ve got two weeks to make it disappear. Yikes!

This is going to bite, it’s a pair of Tory Burch wedge pumps for $80. Buyer is claiming INAD because the color is more orange than expected, but the color on the photos is pretty accurate. However, I now have to pay shipping both ways.
Inventory: $30
Listings: 42Yes, I bought more inventory when I’m supposed to be on the Death Pile Challenge (DPC), but I couldn’t resist. It was a lot of 16 men’s ties, and I do love listing ties. I can fold a tie, put it on the mannequin and snap a photo in under 10 seconds. Then it comes off the mannequin and I take front, pattern, back, point, and label photos, measure length and width, jot down the SKU, and wrap it up. Listed the whole batch the same day and sold one of them a couple days later. I’m claiming that they’re all listed already so doesn’t count towards the DPC. LOL
My goal of listing 10 items per day actually worked for the week. Unfortunately, I lost both Friday and yesterday to being away dealing with the rental make-ready, so I didn’t hit my 50 for last week and already know I won’t this week because I have some investigation and purchases to do for the property and will be driving down again on Friday. Should be my last weekend, though, so hopefully I get to my goal of 50 per week next month.
Thanks, ctebay. I wonder why I didn’t notice that option before? Will look for it.
eC..411 – I didn’t know you can do feedback in bulk. I know that it shows as “shipped awaiting feedback on my Seller Hub, so I was comfortable I can find outstanding feedback items, good to know I can bulk respond when I get busy enough.
I’m with you, Don
Qui… Whiskey! Bring on the windmills! LOLIt’s a Ferguson Elbow Spanner.
More information available here. I can’t find any local listings, nor any listings that are current.
Here’s a 2012 Worthpoint listing with no pictures, and here’s an eBay.co.uk listing from 2016, also no pictures. I don’t know if you can get them in the U.S.A., but we had them in Africa (my dad’s a greasemonkey)
How interesting to read all the responses. There’s certainly a lot to be said for both points of view. I didn’t know about the auto-feedback option, and I think I might save that until I’m handling dozens of orders each day. I like to give personal feedback and, as eC…411 says, to have the option to hold off leaving it if I feel concerned.
My Chinese orders have started coming in, I’ve been leaving feedback, and their feedback is popping up. I’ve noticed that some of the orders are from the same “sent” address, even though they’re with different eBay accounts, and the feedback is sometimes only coming in from one account not both.
This was an fascinating little sidetrack, but as Retro Treasures says, gotta get listing! 🙂
04/19/2017 at 5:26 pm in reply to: New buyer opens an account the day of purchase, shipping address is a mall… #16834Ryanne – nope. If there was, I’d have just shrugged and figured it was a work delivery address.
Retro – LOL. Thanks for the advice. It took me about 2 mins to put up the original post (I’m really quick on the computer) and I figured it was just for interest, no more. I packed the order and it has gone already. This week I’ve averaged 10 listings per day and have passed the 200 mark … woot woot! If I’m slow in listing, it’s because I also manage rental property, teach fitness classes that need weekly preparation, teach dance classes that need weekly preparation, and live on a ranch that needs work. Plus I have a husband who’s more work than all of that combined. Ha! He’s away at the moment, which is why my listings are up. But I hear you, and I’m grateful for your input. I’ll take myself back to my photo booth. Hugs and grins.
P.S. I didn’t know about auto feedback. I’ll look it up.
Use silence and put the onus on the other person. After they give you a price, wait a beat, then ask “is that the best you can do?” and then be silent until they answer. You’ll be surprised how hard it is to stay silent! Let them come back with a response and wait a bit longer, just watching. People hate silence, they rush to fill it. I’ve waited out 4 drops in price before replying to someone and could see them sweating. It’s almost cruel!
However, don’t try this on crusty old men. They have the 1,000 yard stare and grumpy silence down to a fine art. Also be careful of Asian mommas. They’ll fill the silence with lots of screeching! I love them, they get really worked up and browbeat you into such a terror you’ll pay them double just to get them to stop. Very effective technique! However, I’ve learned that silence works on them too, eventually. It just takes a lot longer, a thick skin, and the willingness to endure everyone in a 4-block vicinity coming to see what the ruckus is about. 😉
04/17/2017 at 2:34 pm in reply to: Cleaning Tips – How to Remove Price Marks, Tags, and other Annoyances #16714Discovered this one by accident:
Removing price tags from ceramics – vinegar and water.
I had some mugs that were in excellent shape but looked like they were stored in a barn, full of dust and twigs. I was washing them in a bowl of vinegar and water when I heard the phone, so just dumped them in the bowl and ran to answer it. When I came back, the price tags wiped off with the cloth I was using, almost no effort. The first sticker was picked off with the usual bother, so I was thrilled!

Items Listed: 10Lost part of the week being away in Corpus Christi, then part of the week was spent sorting my death piles into categories per my post in the Death Pile Challenge 2017. All clothes (sorted by type, e.g. shirts, dresses, jeans, etc.), shoes, hats, bags, and linens are now boxed individually. I’m listing all the items that don’t fit into those ^ categories to get them out of the way, then I’ll hit the boxes in the snowball system; smallest to largest, until they’re all done. ChristineR – wanna race? LOL
