My name is Sam. I love reselling and living the life! Long time listener first time blogger.
I wanted to come here and show my respect to Jay & Ryan. Thank you guys for your point of view(s) and shared information. I really appreciate all your time, continuous inspiration, & motivation.
I started selling on eBay in 2007 became full-time in 2013. Also have some other incomes streams to add to reselling for the purpose of financial independence. I live in Chicago and travel a lot as well.
Much Respect,

Welcome! Always good to see another scavenger who’s been able to make a living at this full time. We’re going to be visiting Chicago this Spring to visit some family.
Are you specializing in any kind of item? Or just anything you find?

I sell on eBay mainly men’s clothes & accessories and also anything I buy or find which makes me a profit. In addition, I sell on Amazon FBA for media and replens, OfferUp/CraigsList for local sales on larger items and Bonanza but recently haven’t received any sales from there. Well a little bit about myself, as soon as I went full-time in 2013 we decided to rent a 1200sqft office which we thought was a great decision at the time. The office was shared with my girlfriend who is also a full-time reseller. We have separate stores and work well individually. We slowly grew into the space and even had our own employees. Our employees only did one or two things over and over again such as steam racks full of clothes, clean items or take pictures but never posted our items on eBay. We both grew our stores to around 1,000 items each and managed to make great money. After two years of being full-time resellers we both decided that the $800 office rent and 45 minute commute in Chicago traffic were not in our best interest or in line with our financial independence goals. So we decided to cut cost all together and fix our basement to minimize expenses and really focus on getting out of debt completely. So we jammed packed a full 1200sqft office space into the 800sqft basement of our home. In the past year, we’ve been able to pay down most of our debt. I have also added some other income streams while planning the next move to reach our debt-free goal in 2017.
Meanwhile, I did create a data entry form on excel which generates a file to upload into file exchange. It currently works to a certain extent but needs some minor tweaking. This is all in an effort to get our helpers again but this time to make their focus be listing items on eBay.
As for you guys coming to Chicago, that is great to hear! Hopefully we can cross paths. We live on the southside of Chicago and travel all over the city and suburbs almost every day for sourcing. We have a lot of thrift stores here (Goodwill, St. Vincent de Paul, Village Discount Outlets, Restoration Ministries Thrift, Savers, Salvation Army, Family Thrifts etc…), auctions, estate sales, flea markets and a couple of weigh-n-pays. Not to mention, Spring Clean-up Week is a good way to scavenge those free finds!
Thank you for replying to my intro.
Until next time,
Sam-

Well Sam, sorry not to have met you a year ago when you first posted this! Jay mentioned “file exchange” on this week’s podcast, reminding me of the work I wanted to make a simple front end for listing using Android, Tasker, and sqlite. I got stuck because I couldn’t figure how to make a working sample, nor could I find one online. Would you please share a sample upload with me, if you have it?
I’m Jim Comeau and my wife and I run a four-bay garage sale in Maine, complete with blueberry orchard. We sell on eBay, Amazon, and other venues. I work a full-time job with a full commute, and am a technician of sorts. My long term goal is to become a publisher, and the idea of making basic reseller tools available cheaply very much appeals to me.

You guys are obviously pros. Going debt free is the way to go. A great goal.
We recorded a conversation with another couple in Chicago who sell find and sell clothes:
Scavenger Life Episode 216: Can I Make Money Selling on Etsy?
Do you know them by chance?
Maybe we all do a meet up this Spring when we visit.
