Buyer received shoes today and is complaining about the color. He was expecting the body of the shoe to be a lighter brown than they actually are. The pictures were taken in natural light and on my computer they look like they should. So my thought is maybe it was his computer that changed the color. He said he feels misled, but said he also understands pictures can vary with lighting. He asked my thoughts on it. Not sure exactly what to say. I don’t offer returns and plus these shoes have taken a while to sell and I don’t really want to deal with them again.

It is my understanding that color discrepancy is considered buyer’s remorse and is not considered a valid return reason. It is also my understanding that eBay will support you in denying a return if the reason is due to color discrepancy. It would be interesting to note how other sellers might word the response to the buyer.

Like AdventureE states, if the buyer says they don’t like the item because of color, then eBay sees that as buyer’s remorse.
What’s your experience with not accepting returns? If a buyer wants to return an item, they can always force you to accept one by blaming you. We find it easier just to allow returns to avoid confrontation. Why make someone keep an item they dont want? That seems a certain recipe to drama.
In this case, the buyer may be forced to keep the item because of your “no return” policy, but they can leave you negative feedback.

Hey Frostys: Here is a link to a short reply I did to another member asking approx. the same question. This is a shorter version of a long post I did some time back [you may be able to search for it], about how humans “see” color and how the male – female color cones see color differently. Look it up, may be interesting reading. But the short of it is said in the other reply’s color isn’t going to be supported by Ebay as a reason for INAD or u get a neg. You may take the item back on the grounds that you you want every customer to be satisfied but not at your expense. They request for a return, they get a label, they pay for the return, you credit the initial amount and then you list and resell.
Here is the short link. Armed with this type of info. not many reps or supervisors know how to combat it.

I would just take a return under the stipulation that the buyer pays the return shipping. If the color is a big deal to him, he’ll eat the return shipping costs. When faced with losing some money, often those minor color discrepancies become much more tolerable for the buyer.
Anyway, that’s what I would do rather than going to war over this item and/or risking negative feedback.

Hi! Should I call eBay BEFORE, or AFTER I agree to a return for color discrepancy? (She’s claiming not as described; resulting in free two-way shipping.) I have a solid Buyer’s Remorse case with the color ‘brown’ mentioned three times throughout, though customer had imagined ‘wine’ (listed nowhere…). I’m sure I’ve heard/read the answer on here a hundred times before, but drawing a blank… Do I call eBay BEFORE or AFTER I agree to the return? Many thanks in advance!

Re my (non-Beta) color discrep return: Phone Reps agree Buyer chose wrong Reason, and that I needn’t pay for shipping. Rep said choose ‘Send the buyer a message’, so I asked Buyer to ship back w/ tracking. Buyer replied they’d ship tomorrow.
I called eBay back cause the Return case still reads ‘Take action by Sep 21’. The message sending option didn’t satisfy the beast. Rep said do not click ‘Accept the return’, as then I’d be responsible for all ship costs. Rep said to wait out 5 business days for the Buyer to upload tracking, and ignore any auto emails to take action! Ugh. Rep said its like this cause Buyer ‘chose to go this route’… Messy, and somewhat outside the streamlined Returns process.
I’ll report back when I receive item, and attempt a refund minus shipping…

Re my totally winnable color discrepancy INAD return: I took action and replied by Sep 21 sending the Buyer a message. Sep 22 brings me threats of the potential for a case being opened ‘which can affect your seller level’.
Time to call eBay again…
