From my perspective, promoted listings have never worked well enough for me to be cost effective. The only thing I see consistently over and over on Amazon, Ebay and Etsy, is when I list on a regular basis, I sell. This was very evident once again this Christmas season, which was one of my strongest seasons in many years, but mainly on Amazon and Etsy, which is where I had concentrated my listing efforts. Ebay was weaker by far, but I hadn’t done many listings on Ebay in the season. So I don’t pay for anything extra and just focus on listing.
The only extra thing I do is the send offers on old items I want to get rid of. This is fairly effective, as well.
I’m not sure I’m going to post numbers weekly, but I do plan to check in weekly. I too have a GREAT deal of things, Christine, and am working towards not having to move QUITE so much.
It was a good listing week, primarily because I spent a whole day listing and my friend came over and also spent a day listing for me.
I decided not to worry about tracking my listings but I did manage to get some up last week and it certainly is helping sales. I’ll get back to counting how many I list in January.
I’m also getting ready for an indoor flea market in Tigard the first weekend in January where I hope to get rid of a lot of my vintage clothing, linens and artwork, at go-away prices. All stuff I don’t want to move to Michigan. The purging has begun in earnest.

It’s been a crazy shipping season for us. Really good sales. It certainly helped that we’re not doing elder care anymore. It’s freed up a LOT of time well spent listing and such. My friend has been coming over weekly and it’s been so inspirational that I have been doing quite a chunk of listing too. Feeling very motivated. I don’t have numbers though. 40? 50? Something like that.

48 listings for the week. It helped that a friend came over one day and did 21 listings for me, all for the price of homemade potato chowder for lunch. She’s moving to France next year and has given up her Ebay shop so she likes helping out.
@mycottage I ran a vintage pop-up show called Brookhaven Vintage Marketplace twice a year for 29 years. My book will be about my journey in discovering how to tell stories through creative vintage display and how that invokes an emotional connection. It could be used in your home to curate your vintage collections, and in booths or events. When I started 29 years ago, I didn’t think I could do a good display. My background was retail management, in a setting that involved just putting things on shelves, racks and hanging pegs. Once I tapped into my creative side…I developed my skills over time and had a brick and mortar shop for 13 years as well.Thanks Christine. I can relate….burnout is a real thing in this business. I’m done with shows for at least a year, and it’s not a bad thing. However, what usually happens is that life fills up the spare time with even more projects, or at least that’s what happens to me. I do it to myself, actually.
I have this big move and new chapter in my life and I have decided to write a book about Brookhaven and the magic of vintage curated storytelling.
9 listings for the week. I’ve been concentrating on making sure I have all my ducks in a row for the big shipping days coming up.
45 listings for the week. I really pushed myself and it worked. Best number in a long time.
Fought a bad cold last week so only managed 3 listings. Things are settling down now so I can concentrate on holiday sales, listings, and so forth.

OOF. It’s been quite the ride for the past 6 weeks. My mom was moved up to Seattle last weekend. We had our final Brookhaven show EVER. We had our Holiday Faire fundraiser. It’s been a lot to process. I’ve managed to list a few things here and there, but didn’t keep track, with all the chaos. We’re putting together a pallet to ship 1800 books to Michigan. The list goes on and on.
I did start listing today again in earnest. Things are peaceful and quiet (knock wood.)

Christine, no picking is kinda hard? But in some ways not really. It’s harder on my husband, especially when we pass homemade estate sale signs! We have quite the massive death pile to process before the move and there’s stuff in there from years ago, so it’s like finding new treasures.
3 listings for the week. Brookhaven is next week, so the next few weeks will be lean on listing. Hope to get back into it more by late October. I’m excited about the changes coming…even though it will involve an enormous amount of work.
The hardest part will be moving far away from our friends. Oh, and Charlie and I have committed to NO more picking in the next 6 months. Zero. None. That’s harder than it sounds.

Big life changes coming my way and I thought I would share an abbreviated version.
My brothers have decided to move my mom into an expensive nursing home in Seattle.
Charlie and I have bought commercial property in Michigan and plan to move there next April. We’ll be opening a bookshop which will sell vintage wares as well.
This will be my last Brookhaven show next month, but I have found a buyer for the show and so the show will continue beyond me.
We will continue to run all our online shops in Michigan.
We’re starting to work on the big decisions: what to move, what to sell, and what to donate.
It’s our next big adventure!
30 listings for the previous week and zero last week. LOTS of family drama going on around my mom and it’s just been overwhelming. Just too much. I’ll talk more about it when I get a chance to catch my breath. In the meantime, hoping you are having a good week.
44 listings last week. I am working my way through DP boxes and boy am I donating a bunch. Lots of “what was I thinking?” items are going bye bye. Hope to put up another good number this week but haven’t done any listing so far.

Thanks Christine! Sorry you had to suffer through the heat too. Packing up when it’s so hot is miserable but hopefully you packed up much less, like we did. I also had to do a couple of stints in the air conditioned van, just to make it through. Another thing that worked for us was dipping a rolled up bunch of paper towels in the ice water in our ice chest and draping it around our necks, as well as a spray bottle with cold water and misting ourselves. It got us through.
You always have such an attractive booth…I can see why you got such positive feedback!
