Nice, Joe! What are those table top surfaces you’re using? I have not found anything I like as a backing for all the box cutting I do. (Nice neat garage, too đ I’m envious )

$ Spent on New Inventory: 0An excellent week. Iâve been bad at letting my inventory drop but at least am dribbling some listings in here and there, and they have been some higher dollar items. My carrier here has said repeatedly that he will take any and all packages I leave â glad to hear he makes money on it.
12/14/2020 at 8:48 am in reply to: Taxes for 2020 – Sales over $20,000 split between Paypal and Managed Payments #84267If you mostly source at flea markets and yard sales, a state sales tax certificate may not be that useful since youâre not being charged tax anyway. Many retailers arenât set up to sell wholesale so they charge tax on every sale and wonât take your certificate. The certificate can be most useful when buying at auction because auctioneers will take it and depending on what you sell there may be wholesalers youâd be interested in who will only sell to resellers with a certificate. There are record-keeping requirements for the certificate set by your state department of revenue.
But if youâre going to report business income on your state and federal tax returns, depending on your locale you may need a business license issued by the city or county youâre in and to get zoning clearance to operate out of your house, etc., even if you donât get a tax certificate from your state department of revenue. Business start-up requirements are very specific to your state and locality and vary widely across the country. Does the âCTâ in your name refer to Connecticut? If so, start here: https://www.advancect.org/faq/connecticut-business-registration-requirements-br/
Congratulations on your first year of big numbers!
Using Time Away is a great idea. Doesn’t impact TRS status but gives breathing room for packages that get stuck. Knock on wood I have been fortunate so far – I ship many First Class Packages but there’s one Priority package to AZ that has been stuck for a week….
I lean towards selling smalls by the each, if it’s worth it, so I usually end up with a combination thereof after going through a lot like this. I can list, pack, and ship a small in just a few minutes each so for me it comes down to the value of the item balanced against intangible factors such as buyer drama in the category and desirability of the item. Some things would get listed; other things might just go in the trash. You say that splitting the lot up into different lots would be “lots of work” so perhaps dealing with each little thing would not give you joy. đ If that’s the case for you, list it all together.
It’s a matter of temperament – thereâs no right answer. Everybody is different. (For example, if this were a pile of nice designer clothing, I couldn’t even deal with it. It would go straight to Goodwill.)

Sharyn is correct, the seller has to be in the program. Assuming guaranteed delivery was offered to the buyer, that date will be shown on the “Order Update” email they receive with the header that their order “is being shipped”. Underneath the guaranteed delivery date shown in the email is the sentence “You can always let us know if your item is late” with the words “let us know” hyperlinked. If they click on that link they’ll be taken to a page where they’ll be offered to claim a voucher. There are probably other ways to get to it.
I was in the guaranteed delivery program but then dropped out of it probably because I went through some long handling time periods.
I think industrial and commercial buyers have not been conditioned to expect free or cheap shipping like consumers have. In my experience, non-eBay dealers and auctions for those types of used items often charge a hefty handling fee on top of the actual postage charge if you want something shipped and make no apologies for it. Itâs just business.
If eBay has shown a buyer a guaranteed delivery date and the package does not show by that date, the buyer can claim a voucher.
Might have to jump through some hoops with the Canadian version of the FDA to import a food product to Canada. Maybe not that much trouble for a small seller. Hopefully you wonât have to print your labels in English and French. đ
12/04/2020 at 9:20 pm in reply to: Ugh.. I dropped a fedex smartpost package at the post office…. #83994I wouldnât worry too much about the lack of tracking, it may show up later tonight. (Check it on usps.com; donât trust the tracking link on your eBay shipped items page.) My post office has taken SmartPost before without any problems. The FedEx places should take it too but I have found that inexperienced clerks can be thrown off by the unfamiliar label and two bar codes. Just to be sure you can go in tomorrow morning but Iâll bet theyâve processed it without a hitch and itâs on its way.
Great surprise, DT! Something like thatâll really make your day.
I missed posting last week having spent the holiday week in Texas but wanted to brag on my great week before, so this report is for a two week period. A couple home runs sure brought the average up:

$ Spent on New Inventory: 0Ebay is not switching over stores that primarily have listings of coins or bullion, adult items, and I think there are a couple other types of listings that Adyen NP will not permit in MP. A couple months ago one of my stores was receiving the notices of being switched over but I had some coins listed. I called to ask to opt out due to the coins but they said theyâd only waive the requirement to switch over if the store was 90% or above in listings that MP wonât accept âyetâ. Only like 20% of my listings at the time were coins so they would not let me opt out. I ended those listings and relisted them under a different seller ID, which remains off MP.
My stores switched over without any issues. The only issues Iâve heard of are the two mentioned above, namely the additional banking security hoops to get set up and leaving enough money in Paypal to cover returns and also eBay charges and fees if thereâs not enough in the pending MP payout to cover them or your settings are still to pull from Paypal.
11/21/2020 at 11:05 am in reply to: Trucker hat, MCM Desk lamp, Charlie Rich Quad 8-Track Tape, Vintage TV stand #83591@Utahbill you’re welcome – thanks, I did see that, and it prompted me to include my Casca book sale when I was looking for solds to post. He has a great depth of knowledge about many collecting areas so I do try to keep up with his videos.
11/20/2020 at 10:23 am in reply to: Trucker hat, MCM Desk lamp, Charlie Rich Quad 8-Track Tape, Vintage TV stand #83583For my latest semi-regular installment, here are some things that sold earlier this fall. Iâm trying to get sort of caught up. Putting more time into eBay now I may be able to get to the point of selling enough to contribute something interesting here each week.
When I first came across this small Japanese plastic lacquerware-style box with notepad and mirror in my death piles I was sure it was not worth listing, but Iâve learned to research pretty much everything and to not trust my cheap-junk radar. Â It sold fairly quickly for $20 plus shipping. It was out of a big lot so I only have pennies in it.
Before practicing law (where I had to read so much every day for work that it ruined recreational reading for me for a time) I scoured used book piles for vintage true adventure books. Hereâs one I enjoyed thatâs about a pilotâs Alaska adventures in the â50s that still had its dust jacket and turned out to be a 1st edition, not that I cared about any of that when I originally bought it for a probably dollar or two or less in the â70âs or â80âs. It went for $39 plus shipping.
This Saudia Airlines clothing lint brush is a neat item that harks back to a different age of airline travel. The airlines were hemorrhaging money earlier this year but seem to be adapting to survive. I flew across country back in July and one thing I noticed is that reservations were fungible. Â We reserved a flight for a Wednesday but a few days before we were changed to a Thursday flight, and then we were changed again to a Tuesday flight. The airlines have weathered bad times before and hopefully will again, though air travel may look quite different going forward. It is a fascinating, extremely complex, ever-evolving industry. Back to the lint brush: It took a disappointingly long year-plus to sell for $12 plus shipping. The Lithuanian buyer paid $14 for shipping and I was happy that it made it. It was out of my in-lawsâ estate.
Although this paperback was in very poor condition and half the pages were loose it sold for $5.60 plus shipping. I mention it because Casca: The Eternal Mercenary was a long running series originally written by Barry Sadler (singer/songwriter of the 1966 hit âBallad of the Green Beretâ) and is a great BOLO. While so many paperbacks are worth little to nothing, there are a number of mass market paperback science fiction, fantasy, and adventure seriesâ from the â70âs and â80âs that can sell for healthy prices. This copy could have sold for close to $100 if in excellent condition even though itâs not a first printing. Sadler himself led quite an interesting life which does not hurt the seriesâ popularity.
I enjoy postcards for their historical information but there are so many varieties it can be hard to determine value and desirability even with extensive research. I guess thatâs why Popeyeâs and other postcard sellers put so many cards at auction when they first list them, to see what happens. I went ahead and just listed this WWI era real photo card of a US Army drum and bugle corps band at what I thought was a high BIN price and it sold immediately for $15 plus .55 for the stamp.
