Great, thanks!
It’s been another pretty solid week and it went along with a few good finds. Loving this new life style!
Total Items In Store: 521
Items Sold: 34
Cost of Items Sold: $91.50
Total Sales: $1,020
Highest Price Sold: $80 (Southwestern Boots – Craigslist flip, bought for $15)
# Items Listed: 42
Money Spent on New Inventory: Approx $65
Find of the Week – Great Britain First Edition/First Impression – The Silmarillion – Bought for $0.50 – listed for $500 / Also grabbed a Technics Turntable in great condition for $10 – debating whether I should keep it or sell it.I made a nice purchase today as well as my basement was starting to get flooded with inventory with no good place to put it. I posted to Nextdoor indicating that I was in the market for some basement/garage storage shelves and a lady contacted me saying that she had 7 Sterilite Shelfs that she needed to get rid of. Got all of them for $50 and now the basement is looking quite organized!

As an extra thanks to you, I took your advice above and applied it to an old Canon camera that I bought at an estate sale for $5 with no lens. New battery wasn’t getting it to work so I just posted as Parts Only and included all details in the description that it was not working and posted for $100 or Best Offer – Got $85 for it overnight! Thanks!
Will do!
No other identification on the body anywhere. And nothing else significant to see other than what is pictured so I will assume this isn’t worth anything – at least it was just a quick fifty cent purchase and I learned a little bit from it. Thanks for the feedback!

02/11/2019 at 5:03 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 398: How To Buy or Not To Buy on eBay #56771First time posting one of these:
* Total Items in Store: 498
* Items Sold: 34
* Cost of Items Sold: $261.50
* Total Sales: $1,687.50
* Highest Price Sold: $325 – Game of Thrones Collectible
* Average Price Sold: $49.63
* Returns: 0
* Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $120
* Number of items listed this week: 61I am four months into my eBay career and I have to say that this has been my best week – definitely not usual for me. Helping the cause were a handful of items in the $100 – $300 range. Full-time job and two kids limits my sourcing a bit but I was able to hit up a few estate sales this weekend and grabbed some promising items for quite cheap. Notably, eight vintage mesh hats relating to old farm machinery, a pair of unique Woolrich boots that I listed for $200, and a PC that I purchased for $30 and took apart to sell for parts that should net a nice profit.
My death pile is still quite slim – likely b/c I have not been doing this for too long. Just a few items that I need to repair or research more. One is a Kodak 800 Carousel that does not spin when I press the button. Otherwise, it’s in amazing condition. Still need to ccrack into that to see if I can solve it.
I currently work in purchasing for a mid-sized publisher. The people and the company culture are fantastic, but I’ve worked a few different desk jobs for close to 15 years and I’m really at a point where I don’t want the 9-5 life any more – and really it’s a 7 – 6 life when you factor in all the time I am there and driving time.
Worst case scenario, I can always go back and find a another job, but not until I give this my best shot.
Good question – it’s a lot of work! Actually, one side benefit of doing this is that I completely cut out all TV watching…only an occasional Michigan State basketball game. This definitely frees up time for listings! Basically, I go to work – get home and cook / feed the 3-year old and once everyone is in bed I take pictures and list items. Usually I am up until midnight doing this but I do mix in a night or two each week that I’m off and just hanging out with the wife. I source at lunch and after work and weekends are for estate sales and garage sales once it warms up.
My process is once I get my items home, I document all expenses and take pictures in bulk. The inventory goes to racks and clear bins in the basement. I then mass upload all photos to my eBay Photos folder on my computer. As long as the photos are in the folder, it means that it is not yet listed. Once I list the item, I delete the photos from the folder. It’s been a good system to quickly know what (and how much) still needs to be posted. As an extra inventive to myself, if I acquire items cheaply (or as a part of a box of items) and haven’t researched them before hand, I do not allow myself to research their value until I create the listing. It’s a good way to make me want to make the listing b/c I am itching to know how much something is worth!
