Morning all…
Had a fair to middling week on ebay.
Sales: CAD$2810, 15 sales, COGS: $158, Fees: ~$365, Postage: $468 –> Gross profit: $1819
Expenses: $127, New inventory: $1449 –> Cashflow: $400
I scavenged a couple things on ebay which I now can’t remember at all… also feeling moody and overstressed lately due to day job, but that should be calming down by the end of the month a little, I hope.
We decided to sell our rental property (our first house), it went on the market this weekend. I don’t regret renting it out but it no longer makes sense… 40k or so of equity tied up there making 2% or something (assuming flat housing prices) could be better employed in my business, to put it mildly. And actually, we have pulled so much money out of the ebay business this year (mostly to buy a car) that if I don’t put some back in we’re going to have a really gigantic tax bill.
Hi all – had a great week on ebay. Sold more HVAC controllers… that rare repeat customer!
Sales: CAD$8641, 15 sales, COGS: $471, Fees: ~$1123, Postage: $553 –> Gross profit: $6494
Expenses: $788, New inventory: $375 –> Cashflow: $5802
Sourced a few things on ebay, nothing huge though. Looking forward to auctions later this month.

Had a pretty good week on ebay.

Expenses: $0, New inventory: $0 –> Cashflow: $3477
I am just not finding time to scavenge though. But it looks like there may be some good auctions in June.
Hi, had a good week on ebay although it seemed slow. Didn’t have much time for scavenging.
Sales: CAD$3865, 13 sales, COGS: $501, Fees: ~$502, Postage: $377 –> Gross profit: $2485
Expenses: $0, New inventory: $0 –> Cashflow: $2985

05/10/2021 at 2:36 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 513: On The Thought Train with Past Jay and Future Jay #88612No, the buyers have paid shipping, UPS just isn’t talking to itself internally I guess? So they keep demanding customs when it’s already paid.
It seems like there is a broken process in there somewhere.

Sales: CAD$3657, 16 sales, COGS: $1444, Fees: ~$475, Postage: $438 –> Gross profit: $1300
Expenses: $0, New inventory: $0 –> Cashflow: $2743
For the past few months I had been using UPS more and more as they were turning out cheaper and faster, on paper, than Canada Post, AND they picked up from my porch. I think I am done with that for good. Two packages, one worth $4000 and one worth $1500, had basically the same screwup happen starting nearly a *month* ago which UPS has failed to correct, so the funds are still in jeopardy:
- Customer owes customs
- Driver tries to deliver but for whatever reason is unable to collect customs
- Buyer pays customs online
- UPS tries to deliver again, demands customs, and leaves
- I call and yell at them
- “Oh sorry, we’ll deliver again”
- UPS tries to deliver again, demands customs, and leaves (x6) (no I’m not joking about the 6).
- UPS loses the package
- UPS finds the package
- UPS loses the package
- UPS tries to deliver again, demands customs, and leaves
I am really at the end of my rope with them, and their customer service is appalling. It’s near impossible to get a hold of a real person, tracking numbers just lead you to a “do everything online!” dialog. You have to “trick” the robot into connecting you with a person by mumbling inaudibly when it asks for a tracking number. I might have had better luck putting my package in a wicker basket with an address label and floating it down the river to rely on the kindness of strangers.

05/03/2021 at 9:35 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 512: Want To Hear A Sad to Happy Story? #88389Mostly pens, highlighters, tape dispensers, etc. Nothing in enough quantity per SKU to bother selling really… there was also a lot of branded “swag” type stuff of decently high quality that I am unsure what to do with. E.g., I am trying to sell a huge box of branded “golf divot repair kits” on ebay, we’ll see if anybody bites. And there were like 20 golf club cleaning cloths that are now seeing an actual useful life as household rags.

Had an auction pickup on Friday with a decent amount of stuff. One lot was a supply closet, which I bought for the $1000 worth of toner in it, but which also contained so much stationery that we’ve been giving it away to relatives and friends all weekend. Other than that, nothing too exciting on ebay. May 11 there are two big auctions I’m hoping to score a lot of new inventory at.
Sales: CAD$3643, 13 sales, COGS: $279, Fees: ~$474, Postage: $634 –> Gross profit: $2256
Expenses: $736, New inventory: $468 –> Cashflow: $1131
Congratulations on opening your shop, that’s awesome! I hope at some point I am able to see it.
Had a good week on ebay.
Sales: CAD$4183, 16 sales, COGS: $578, Fees: ~$584, Postage: $684 –> Gross profit: $2337
Expenses: $0, New inventory: $2 –> Cashflow: $2913
Anybody have any tips for moving an item that is valuable enough to care about, but keeps getting VERO’d on ebay? It’s a brand new dental tool that, I guess the brand name in question is very aggressive about. I doubt it will sell locally…
Yep, I think most countries have some. Have you never had to pay any?
That’s smart – I might copy that. Thanks!
USA. I think he’s just an inexperienced buyer. He’s threatening to refuse delivery and then call his credit card company so I think this may end up with me eating the shipping.
It’s OK, cost of doing business I guess. Kinda bothers me that he thinks I’m cheating him though.
Good morning!
What do you guys when you have a buyer who doesn’t understand the concept of “customs”? (I realize if you use the GSP you don’t have this issue very much.) I have just explained it to a guy who opened a case… wish there was an official ebay page like “Customs and you, explained” that I could just forward him.
I had a great week on ebay.
Sales: CAD$5994, 20 sales, COGS: $1427, Fees: ~$804, Postage: $476 –> Gross profit: $3287
Expenditures: $290, New inventory: $565 –> Cashflow: $3859
Sold an instrument panel for a crane, and some breakers… forget what else.
I have been listing quite a bit, but not new inventory! Implementing a redundant SKU system and comparing my ebay store versus my tracking spreadsheet has uncovered many items – maybe 25 so far – that were sitting unlisted in storage. One of them is absolutely huge and has been sitting for 2 years. It sold the next day for $1200 (granted the buyer hasn’t paid yet but I think they will.)
It’s always cancellations! Watch those confounded cancellations, especially on multiple qty listings.
