03/11/2019 at 3:58 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 402: Can You Build An eBay Business On Repeat Buyers? #58495
Had Ebay cancel a sale this week. Buyer bought and paid for item, by next AM sale was canceled and Ebay sent a note saying the buyer was no longer a member of Ebay. Pretty sure Ebay banned the person from Ebay for violating policies or something Thought that was kind of interesting, and if my theory is right, glad i did not have to deal with the guy. That was a first for me.

03/04/2019 at 2:36 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 401: You Don’t Have To Quit Your Job To Sell On eBay #58088yes that is right Jay. Perhaps i will tweak how i show these to make them a little clearer.
My sale per item after backing out shipping was 52 dollars or something like that
My profit per item this week was $29.55 after shipping, ebay fees paypal fees etc…Below is a list of what i sold this week with the sales price next to it. These numbers do not reflect whatever i charged (or did not charge) for shipping.
I will add that while at first glance the higher dollar per sale may look nice, there is a lot of running around to get it and my costs are a lot higher than your and other folks — so i am trying to continue to evolve to get to a little more of a happier place for me that can grow and expand to be consistent over the long haul. Some of my bigger sales are great and i will continue to go after them – but some of them are not as profitable when it comes down to it and maybe i was better off selling 10 records in the same amount of time that fit in my closet.
Either way i want to get net profit up.

Profit % Rev: 40%Maybe they could just make money like Facebook or Google and collect our information to sell to advertisers / whoever wants to buy it. If Facebook marketplace grows, could that be the standard? You could start getting pop up ads based on what you search on eBay, or is that already happening?
From what i gathered he was getting dinged for using misleading words in titles — this is not specifically what he did, but as an example, “Not Gold Ring” — Ebay does not let folks use words that may attract attention but not actually be true. It seemed like he got suspended a few times for it, then the last video i listened to, it sounded like he was suspended a entire month.
I don’t know any of the specifics other than what i picked up from a few videos – but to me it sounded like he got on someones S–T list at Ebay or something. Kind of weird.
Absolutely – I am not advocating a 60% sale – and Will seems kind of pissed off at Ebay b/c his store keeps getting suspended – so who knows his motivation.
Believe me i am familiar with your store too : ) Your returns are amazing. Your business is actually really different than his in the sense that you spend much less on your inventory and imagine your returns are a lot higher. My opinion is people just are price sensitive — though i get where you are coming from — sometimes actually it seems like people will be more interested in weird items if the price is higher — so i guess it is not all black and white
But anyway back to listing as i cannot stand trying to sell things to people anymore in the real world at my day job : )
– if you look in the ap or sold listing you can see the 60 day history, which i am referring
– he does not do post cards, i believe that was another interview you may have done at a recent time as his interview. He is pretty similar to you guys.
– likely, he believes customers are price sensitive. I do not know the answer to why he is doing the sale, but potentially he wants to get the money to buy better stuff that will sell better. He has a lot of long tail and i imagine much if his older stuff he may not buy todayI actually thought your interview with Will was one of your better ones, which says a lot, because you guys have rolled out tones of amazing content.
Not sure if you follow terminal99, but he has had a 60 percent store sale happening. His normal sales have been about 750. As of right now they are 996 sold items. if you are familiar with his store from looking in the past you can see his sales have increased and he discusses the sale in recent videos.
Anyway, it came to mind after reading your post.

02/28/2019 at 9:23 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 400: Tax Season Advice for Newbies from Strangers On The Internet #57834It’s so interesting to see that such large stores sees such variance. Could be eBay elves or perhaps it’s a really neat pulse on the economy (or both)
Anyway, great to see you are not doing promoted listings. Kind of wish there was a way for all sellers to push back on that. To me it seems promoted listings are for drop shippers who get dinged by eBay so eBay gives them a way to pay to be like regular ebayers in the search results. So long as regular sellers don’t feel obliged to pay more too
