Had to mention this because it reinvigorated our scavenging efforts. A few weeks ago I bought a 1976 Pioneer SX-1250 stereo receiver at a garage sale for $10, yes $10. The 65 pound beast sold in less than a week for $1050, yes $1050! Sold to a guy in Hong Kong, but had it sent to his “technician” in Seattle, who services the items before “forwarding” on to China. Gotta love it!
Hi Jay. You bet there’s lots of Loot to scavenge here in Oklahoma! We live in the Oklahoma City area, so it’s a big metropolitan area with lots of people. We do most of our IA (inventory acquisition) at garage sales, of which there are many and can be found about 9 months of the year. We do find things in thrift stores occasionally, but like most people claim, the prices at GW and others seem to be getting out of control and beyond use for us scavengers. I guess my natural tendency to be a tightwad keeps me away from most estate sales as well, at least the ones run by companies. We occasionally attend one on half-price day, but most are picked over by then. No specialty for us, just look for interesting things we can turn for a good profit. Looking to be debt free within a couple of years, and scavenging & ebay are going a LONG way towards accomplishing our goals.
