The code can always be found at Seller Hub / Marketing / Subscriber Discounts
I agree with T-Satt – the cited CFR is likely the driver behind the rotating sales at Kohls and other retailers. Supermarkets follow similar patterns – items go on and off sale in regular cycles.
Also agree that eBay is a big target, and could be putting this policy into effect in order to protect itself and shareholders.
Over the weekend, I watched a YouTube video from a seller who is supposedly an “eBay Influencer”. He said he had a conference call with eBay about the recent glitches and changes. While discussing the new 14-day markdown issue, he mentioned in passing that this had some legal implications.
This makes me wonder if the new policy relates to truth in advertising laws. I think retail stores are prohibited from offering perma-sales, so maybe eBay is now being held to the same standard. If you click on the link under the “Offer Name”, it brings you to your store. I have a banner there and all the items included in the offer are showing up. Now, the trick is to get people into the store.
Same issue here. I am also a serial sale seller – I usually run a new sale every 2 days to create a sense of urgency to buy. This has been a successful strategy – there always seems to be a surge of sales in the final 10-12 hours or so.
So as Ryanne said above, now nothing in my store is on sale.
As a workaround, I created an “Order Discount” promotion (as opposed to “Sale Event and Markdown”. Let’s see how that works out.
I guess I must be in a beta program. When I created a new promotion last night, I was able to check ‘all categories’. I currently have 650 active listings, 617 of them are promoted listings.
I hope the eBay gods smile upon everyone with this feature soon.
Huh. Maybe they’ve put me into some testing program? I did get that phone call about Promoted Listings today…
Hopefully they will roll it out for everyone soon.
01/04/2017 at 12:21 pm in reply to: Need some advice from the group about selling high end audio equipment #9545Thanks everyone, for your input. You have all validated my trepidation about taking this on.
As a bit of background, i have successfully sold items for the trusted friend who recommended me to the owner of the audio equipment. My friend owns a local appliance business, and he has contracted with me a few times to move out his scratch and dent inventory. It’s been a great arrangement since he has his own ebay account, just doesn’t have the time to list. He gives me access to the account, and has a couple of his guys make the items accessible for me to take pictures. Then when it sells, he handles the shipping. I don’t get involved with his paypal account at all, he just pays outright.
There is a chance that the audio equipment guy may be a wholesaler and the items are new old stock. If he has his own ebay account, I may consider doing the work. But I tend to agree with all of you that it is not worth the risk to my own account and reputation.
Thanka again…
SoCal Joe,
I’ve been steadily switching my listings from good till cancelled to 30 day for just that reason. Instead of relisting, I am using “sell similar”. My sales have been steadily increasing. Of course, I am still adding as many fresh new items as possible as well.I live in North Plainfield and work in Bloomfield. Would love to get together for coffee and talk trade.
Definitely agree it look like burl maple. There are lots of people who collect burl wood, so be sure to use the word in your title. Great item – good luck with it!
Thanks so much for responding so quickly!
I just got off the phone with eBay. They agreed that this is a case of buyer’s remorse. The rep said that they expect me to accept the return since I stated 30 day returns on my listing – fair enough. Just sent a message to the buyer stating that she will have to pay return shipping. Ball’s in her court now…
Thanks again.
I hear that the turnaround time to check in shipments increases dramatically in December, so don’t wait until too far into the month if you have holiday items to sell.
Amazon was totally dead for me in early October, then lukewarm toward the end of the month. Starting to pick up slightly now.
I agree that the long term storage rules change could have been an incentive for sellers to lower their prices. I also wonder whether there is a surge of seasoned sellers activating advertising campaigns on October 1 since it is the official beginning of Q4.
I am even newer to Amazon than you guys – just started this past spring. I have a total of about 400 items in inventory, about half scavenged and half retail arbitrage. Honestly, I get sales on the same low-priced retail arbitrage items, seldom my scavenged items. But the scavenged stuff brings a much better margin!
Amazon introduced an automatic re-pricer several weeks ago, and I noticed a change soon after it was implemented.
I am definitely backing off on sending too much in to Amazon going forward. They’ve changed the rules at least three times since I started in the spring. I plan to leave my items in through Q4 to see what happens, but am treading lightly on new shipments.
