Sourcing Cost: $20.00Working 2 full time jobs and trying to do an Ebay store is hard work, but it’s fun. What’s nice is when I’m delivering newspapers, I can usually get a jump on the free piles and have grabbed a few garbage bags of clothes, it’s finding time to process them. Most recently I’ve been listing match book covers, about 100 or so. I set up a template and just take the pics during a 5-10 min break, load up about 25 or so drafts and then when work is done and I’m cooking supper, just load pics up and list. Works pretty slick and have sold 4 already.
I should have taken a picture of it this AM, but I drive by a Goodwill on my route and no kidding, there was a pile of garbage bags maybe 4 ft high, 20 feet long and 3-4 feet deep up against the wall. It was soooo tempting to swing in and pack the trunk full of bags, but it’s not right. Same thing with these big green boxes in town. Bags just sitting in front of them in the rain. I could seriously have 20 bags of clothes every weekend for free. My Irish and Catholic conscience got the best of me. Same when I see a pile of bags on a driveway only to see them labelled for the Vets or Epilepsy Foundation. Must just be Picker’s Pride.
Anyway, hope everyone is doing well and I’m hoping to get the store up to 200 by June 1st. Initial goal was end of June… Take Care. Jim.Thanks Jay. Appreciate the feedback and will work on a space of my own for pics. Baby steps with the Mrs as she has her plate full too. I need a little more traction before climbing that hill…
Last pic of the Bunny Glasses is me modeling case anyone cares.Jim.
Hey Jay, I created a card game that’s played with birds that visit the bird feeders and was selling that online. I still have my wordpress site and store at http://www.gameswithbirds.com. I’m torn about closing it completely or keeping it going. I Haven’t posted there recently just to let things coast for a bit. Wasn’t selling a whole lot as I didn’t have much for marketing. So I have dabbled a bit, but nothing like what I’m planning for Ebay.
JimThanks Jay.
Spent the past few nights doing re-con on the local businesses. Nearly every retail place has it posted for no trespassing and some even state no scavenging. While there isn’t an ordinance that I could find for our city on scavenging, I’d rather source without looking over my back. I know quite a few cops from delivering the papers, but this might be pushing it.
I’m planning on keeping my eyes open on garbage days and when I pass through alleys and such while I deliver to see if there are any finds. I also deliver to quite a few senior housing facilities. I’ve noticed that when some of the residents pass or move to a more specialized facility that the families will sometimes put the possessions they don’t care about on tables near the garbage. Will just need to keep my eyes open.
Have you tried storage locker sales and had any success? I think after the holidays my wife and I will hunker down during the deep freeze and try to purge stuff we’ve accumulated and see what we can kick start to get some traction.
Appreciate all you guys do.
Jim
