Hi, It was a little hard to figure out who you were talking about at the beginning of the episode. Was it “The Profit” with Marcus Lemonis? Or “The Partner”? And where did you find his show? Thanks!
Hi, I’d just like to chime in on the “FedEx Label Fees” thing. I actually noticed it before the message came. I just happened to be doing a bunch of accounting for my small business and noticed my eBay fees were less than average. I knew that my sales weren’t down so I explored it. I found that my Smartpost labels were not on the invoice. I made a note to my self “call eBay” and the next day that message came in so I didn’t call. To me, this is just one more thing that should be instant. We are in 2019 for goodness sake. Ebay final value fees… instant Labels….. instant. If you want my item…. pay right now.

Thanks Jay! I agree, I think I’m going to list it as a Halloween costume. Who knows, right? I’ve got the dang thing, might as well throw it up for $50.
Ok…. So I’ve been down the rabbit hole and back. Here’s what I’ve learned…..
The acid tests are just ok. They can tell you if you have “real” gold but it is a destructive test. (Some of the gold gets dissolved in the nitric acid and you need to be good at chemistry to recover it.) The best test is a conductance test, were you hook up a set of electrodes and measure the amount of current that passes through the metal. Since the conductance of gold is a known quantity you can calculate the purity from this measurement.
Since my “gold” is in very small particles I don’t want to acid test it. I’m going to purchase a graphite crucible ($22 on eBay) and melt all the little particles down to a lump which I can conductance test. (I already have propane and a fire brick to construct a kiln.)
I have a feeling that what I have has a very low gold content so I’m probably going to vaporize it or make a slag rock. But…….maybe…… gold!
Also with a crucible and forge setup I can start melting down scrap metals and selling them. (right?)
Wish me luck, (that I don’t burn my fingers off). And I will do another update after the smelting.Found them in an auction lot. The bottles are tiny so maybe .5 to 1 oz total weight. I have a feeling that it’s some kind of gold leaf for art projects…… but wouldn’t it be sweet if I could melt it all into an ingot. ($1,283.50 per oz)
