Trash to Cash. A podcast about making a living on eBay.
Hi Ryanne
It’s great – on the organising website they have a list of synonyms for jumble:
muddle, hodgepodge; farrago, gallimaufry; mess; chaos.
Gallimaufry! What a completely fabulous word. I must try and use it in conversation. We are gallimaufry hunters.
Something like yard sales have recently started to happen. Called ‘Jumble Trail’ – usually organised within a relatively small geographical area (a few square miles) within a community. 10-50 households will put stuff for sale in their front gardens/driveways on a pre-arranged day. There’s a website which communities can use to organise and publicise. Seems like a good idea!
Hi Jay
About half of the stock is from charity shops, although many are recognising the demand for vintage and pricing higher. The rest is from carboot sales. I’m not sure there’s an equivalent in the US. Usually held very early on Sunday morning, in a muddy field. Sellers are mostly people getting rid of excess and unwanted stuff. Or they are house clearance dealers, with boxes of unsorted stuff from the houses of the dead. Relatives pay them to take it away! Low low prices and lots of interesting old stuff.
Auctions are not well advertised – but we’ll be going in winter as most carboot sales only happen late spring to autumn.
I’ve also bought on ebay (low start auction items) to sell on Etsy. And we have been known to find stuff in skips or at the local tip – rescuing it before it ends up in landfill.
There’s no shortage of stuff!
