About the “death” of Yard Sale Treasure map, bummer I know, it was convenient. I usually use the craigslist website on my desktop, and sort by the map to see the ones closest to me or to make an efficient route. I then do have to write them down and map them out on mapquest. Google maps is better but only lets you put 10 locations at a time! I like to use the search terms church, neighborhood & community to identify the good ones first, then build a route around that. However, in the last few years less and less people are putting an ad on CL to start with, making the YSTM less effective a tool overall. Until Nextdoor or FB Marketplace make a similar tool, it’s defiantly a step back in planning an efficient route. For all the yard sale only sourcers out there, we know that those 5-6 hours a week are precious. Good Luck out there Scavengers! Stay Safe and may your inventory reserves grow!
Got it figured out. I had assumed incorrectly that I HAD to use USPS through Bonanza. Shipping it UPS with Shippo and then uploading the tracking# is going to save like $30! Thanks Scavengers!
Hello there – I collect posters mostly from concerts and bands and such and this is a frequent question in the poster forums. You need to know that all tubes are not created equal. Yazoo tubes are some the best, they are available on eBay, but aren’t cheap. I use 3″x24″ tubes and buy them 20 at a time for around $3 each. These are much more sturdy than Uline or anything on amazon. I have a roll of brown kraft paper that I cut a section bigger than the poster to roll it up in. This protects the edges of the poster if it slides back and forth in the tube. Most collectors insist on using putting the tube inside a Priority Triangle as well. The PO machines don’t treat round objects well. I have sold $100+ posters, so supplies and shipping could be as much as $15, however I can’t replace these items and poster collectors are VERY concerned with condition. Good Luck!

Pirate Ship (Cubic) is for SMALL packages!, that are heavy and when going a long distance.
For Example: I just today shipped a 46oz. item that fit in the 8x6x4 eBay box. going from NC to CA. Cheapest option on eBay was Fed Ex @ $12.06, Cubic was $9.96 and is Priority Mail with all the tracking and everything.
End Shipping Nerd Alert – You may resume your normal Scavenger Life programming

I think I got a shout out from Ryanne on the tail end of the latest podcast answering me as well, exclusive to the website. Got it 🙂
07/12/2020 at 11:35 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 471: Building Equity, Our Free Scavenger Education #79516Hello Scavengers – Ryanne talking about the $100 insurance on priority made me feel the need to give a heads up to everyone, knowing that it might just be my area or even just my Post Office, but it seems the PO is tightening up on things. In the last 2 weeks I’ve had a claim denied, with this new directive that they want to inspect the broken item in person. Good pictures from the customer have always done the job in the past, but now I need to have the customer ship the item back to me to show them that they broke it??? Anyway, we’re fighting that, but who knows. I’m certainly not going to ask my buyer to take their broken item to the local PO and show them. Also, just this week got a $9 up-charge because I altered a Game board LFR box. I have done this for years and even looked up the rules on the USPS website where it clearly states that if you alter the box it is no longer a flat rate box and will be charged reg. priority rates. It just seems that they may have hired some new postal inspectors who are eager to prove that they should stay employed (can’t blame them, I guess) by finding ways to charge more and deny claims. I’m hoping it’s just one over-zealous employee and this isn’t a trend, but it just might be.
Enjoying the show as always – Stay Safe Everyone!07/02/2020 at 2:58 am in reply to: Scrabble Deluxe, 2 Boomboxes, Toilet roll holder, Toaster shell Clock movement #78986Hi Steven – Is there a way to watch your “What Sold” videos on the Youtube app? I subbed your channel but all I can see are your demo videos. Thanks Brian
I found one of those deluxe scrabbles this weekend as well. $5, I didn’t even haggle, it’s up for 75.
So it isn’t a lag time issue, it’s still not in manage inventory today. I don’t know where this thing is in the system. It is in active listings and I did publish it from the phone. I was just trying out a new method to try and speed up listings, think I’ll go back to the tried and true. lol Thanks for your responses!
PS – Thanks for the Podcast Jay & Ryanne
Could defiantly tell Jay doesn’t do the shipping when he said to throw out perfectly good boxes. Nothing makes me happier than finding the perfect box to ship an item in my shed where the (had never heard this term before, lol) box Monster lives. I’ve been known to slam on the brakes if I see a good box beside someone’s trash can in our town.
07/17/2019 at 9:01 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 415: Importance Of Being Honest As A Business Owner #65084Hi everyone – I know I’m late to listening to this one, but I just had to write in about the routing yard sales or thrift stores thing discussed late in the episode. You can do this in Google Maps, which is what I used to use, but you are now limited to 10 locations. So these days I use mapquest which allows around 25. It is a pen and paper method, you simply write down all the addresses you want to go to and then you organize them for efficiency by looking at the map. Then re-write your optimized list. I have a word doc with lines just for this purpose, and it has a place for the date and what you spend at each sale (FOR TAXES!!) It would be nice if a computer would organize for you but this method still works great for me. Happy Scavenging!
