well shoot. Thank you for everything. Because of you I found nerve to start my business, rent a space and start investing in building up what I need to be successful. Listening to your podcast every monday is how I started my week and I can never thank you enough.

This is an outlier week for me as I usually do about 100 – 150 but I had a really big book sale. I’ve been holding some books back about tattoos for when I needed a boost and now just seemed like the time. I really need up upgrade my photo setup so that is where the money is going. Straight to B&H! https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/45652-REG/Savage_63151_Multiple_Polevault_System.htmlI sourced a little but with no awesome results but I keep finding piles of stuff to list so I really just need to keep grinding on that.
I probably didn’t have to but it was a very old ID that reflected a very different idea of what I wanted to sell than I have now. Plus it was the same id I used for a previous long gone website. Now I have a new website where I sell books under my name which is the legal name of my business where I’m trying to transition to higher end, more valuable books and hopefully gain some credibility in the book dealing community. I don’t share stock between ebay and my website but I would like there to be a connection. Also, I didn’t get a DBA for the previous ID so I thought it would be a good idea. Also I generally am just winging it.

Sales are not great right now I think in part because I changed my ebay seller id to reflect my new business name. I’ve changed before and it seems to tank sales for a week or so. Also I really need to start aggressively listing but I keep getting derailed by life, plus I’m anticipating my second covid shot this week and I know its going to make me sick for a few days. I don’t really source much anymore because I got a huge archive of letterpress paper ephemera for free from a friend who was moving out of state and didn’t want to lug it with her. Plus I was lucky enough pickup four boxes of uncatalogued books from a dealer who is retiring. Book dealers don’t have death piles, they have ‘uncatalogued material’ lol
I know this topic is long dead but I wanted to put a period on the end of it. My buyer got the package last week AND contacted Catawiki support to reopen the transaction AND triggered payment. Dude is a stand up guy.
Shipped on Dec 14, Denver Colorado, to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Chicago, Quatar, back to Chicago, out to Quatar again and then on to Greece.
Last thoughts about Catawiki. Lurk on the auctions until you know what’s hot. They would like sellers to speak several languages. Be a specialist dealer with unique inventory. Selling from America is a disadvantage.
ok that does cheer me up. Can you imagine opening a box full of dragon neck and having no idea what was happening?
Update from my friends at catawiki support: “We continue to monitor the status of the shipment for this order and we can see that the package is currently in transit in Qatar, Doha since January 24, 2021.”
They would like for me to investigate why its in Qatar and not in Greece where it is supposed to be. Sure, gonna get right on that. If I ever get this $20 I swear I’m going to spend it all on cake.
Thanks Antique Frog! I think you are right. My item was just not in demand enough. I think I need to lurk more in their categories. I might try it again someday but not until the ongoing shipping crisis is over.

I wanted to ask you you shipped this item. I am sitting on some large prints by a famous artist but shipping is holding me back. These are about 30 by 20 inches, unframed and I have no idea how to pack them. I though about rolling on a big tube but the paper is very stiff and will show creases. Should I get cheap poster frames from hobby lobby and box them up? Should I get think cardboard and make a portfolio? Is this going to cost a fortune in postage? Any help grateful accepted.
Hi,
I’m scratching my head over the name. I get FEL and there might be another ‘e’ in there but can’t make out anything else.
The images are of popular german tourist spots:
michelstadt market town hall fountain and city hall; rothenburg ob der tauber; frankfurt der romer
My guess is that they were purchased as souvenirs. They look like nice cheerful color lithographs.05/08/2020 at 1:29 pm in reply to: are you the same kind of scavenger you were before the lockdown? #77237Hi Daisy,
that’s so cool about the masks! There is a place in Denver that sells Oddities that are mostly cool decor, secret society stuff and not very scary. There is also a place called the ‘lost room’ or something like that that I don’t go in because sometimes taxidermy makes me sad. I really went down some rabbit holes searching for the kind of BST facebook groups to become a part of. Sometimes you have to be in the group for a few days to see what they are all about. I left a few because I am positively never going to be interested in raw animal parts for crafting or taxidermy. I’m looking for ghost photos, self published booklets, books and magazines. Not eyeballs.05/07/2020 at 11:48 am in reply to: are you the same kind of scavenger you were before the lockdown? #77197I live in a 2 bedroom condo and I share the second bedroom with my husband’s guitar hobby. He is only semi tolerant to clutter so I don’t have any room for piles that don’t get immediately processed and stored away. Luckily I like books photos and ephemera which are fairly compact. Everything I sell makes room for something new and it feels good taking packages out of the house and seeing space open up but the not sourcing was killing me. Oh and I finally opened a buyers account! I’ve been meaning to to that for a while. I had to transfer all my saved searches and re ‘watch’ all items I’m stalking so the offers come to the right account.
BUT…my thrift stores are open now! I’ve been to 5 in the past week and I’ve got a fresh pile of stuff and now I have online sourced things coming in the mail. Now the plan is keep pushing out the old stuff, keep up the quest for specialization and hunt for fast profitable sellers to fund new purchases.
Mystery briefcase! I did shake it to see if there was anything in there and it felt empty. I kinda regret passing it up now. I went home with a railroad coleman cooler instead (union pacific)
10/31/2018 at 9:14 am in reply to: what is this shot glass looking thing with the painted dog? #51000Hi Jay and Mike,
No, no markings and it feels old (vintage) but also cheap, like its a novelty item (like Jay thinks). Mike, thank you so much for the search terms. I was not getting any where with tiny shot glass lol. I only paid 49 cents so I don’t have a lot invested but it’s just an interesting little thing.
Maggiealways smell everything. I am the weirdo sniffing the vintage woolrich shirts at the thrift store
