That’s what I thought, too AdventureE. That’s how it is for me. But apparently for many it just dumps everything into an “Other” Category.

02/07/2018 at 7:52 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 346: Frank Discussions. Gewgaws. Storage. #32471Sharyn & Jay. I hear what you are saying. But that is not what happens on my Basic Store Account. My side bar in my store mirrors the Categories of eBay. I didn’t do anything special to set this up. It happens automatically. There is no “Other”. It lists my items in standard eBay categories (ex: Collectibles, Toys & Hobbies, Home & Garder).
02/07/2018 at 10:03 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 346: Frank Discussions. Gewgaws. Storage. #32402I am so curious why your’s would dump into the “Other” Category while mine automatically filter into basic eBay Categories. I don’t select anything during listing. Glad it happens, though.
02/06/2018 at 9:21 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 346: Frank Discussions. Gewgaws. Storage. #32263My numbers for the week of 1/28/18:
Total Items in Store: 132
Items Sold: 11
Cost of Items Sold: $24
Total Sales: $295 + shipping
Highest Price Sold: $44.99 (Pretty Princess Game)
Average Price Sold: $26.82
Returns: 0This weeks sales were discouraging. I guess there’s nothing else to say on that.
Regarding the caller talking about the eBay colors on the supplies, I am surprised I haven’t heard a big discussion about this back when they started making the changes. They went from what I consider a very recognizable logo with primary colors and a “Fill your cart with color” campaign (Like it!) to a mismash of purple, red, baby blue and yellow (Hate it)??? It just seems like a bad marketing move to have “branded supplies” that don’t match the brand logo. I don’t get it.
02/06/2018 at 8:54 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 346: Frank Discussions. Gewgaws. Storage. #32257I belive store Categories (other than eBay’s) are only useful if you specialize or have a niche kind of store…Like I’m going to a pet supply store and I want to see Categories broken down by animal type. For people who sell thrifted stuff, it tends to be across many different categories. I find it irritating to go to someone’s store and have a long sidebar of their own made up categories when eBay’s categories wound have been more intuitive.
I do have a question though. I have never assigned Store Categories when I list, and my sidebar has all my items in the standard eBay Categories automatically. I have heard that some sellers see every one of their items lumped under “Other”. I would see that as an issue to customers navigating your store for sure. Anyone know why that happens? That the categories defualt over for some, but don’t for others?I am from Cleveland and Wahoo is everywhere. I wouldn’t stock up on it. Ebay has banned the sale of offensive items (confederate flag, nazi march) in the past and might add to the list.
My numbers for the week of 1/21/18:
Total Items in Store: 130
Items Sold: 13
Cost of Items Sold: $51
Total Sales: $519 + shipping
Highest Price Sold: $100 (Lot of Hardy Boys Books)
Average Price Sold: $39.92
Returns: 0I had alot of higher (for me) than average sales prices which made it a solid week. I notice that is is easier to “feel” successful when the number of items is larger, even if the dollar amount isn’t. More cha-chings, more packages being packed, I nice pile of boxes for the mailman. It’s easy to see how a person can get a false sense of busy vs slow and how it really compares to profit.

Highest Price Sold: $75 (Motorcycle Helmet)
Average Price Sold: $27.76
Returns: 0I have been keeping my listing goals for 2018. So far it’s going well.
Something to keep your eye on: I noticed my shipping metric for “Uploaded on time but no carrier scan” took a hit. But when I looked at the Tracking# it shows full tracking with pickup through delivery scans. I spent a ridiculous amount of time on the phone yesterday trying to get it corrected. This morning it is still not fixed.
Jay & Ryanne, I was wondering if you had decided to do a physical inventory as you fill up your new storage facility? I know you had talked about it. I did one myself (my store is tiny so it took minutes to do as my daughter read off the item list while I confirmed it was on the shelves). I didn’t have any “missing” listings but I list 30 day duration. Anyone I’ve heard have a problem with missing listings seems they use GTC. I would be interested in knowing if your inventory and # of listings are in sync or it they are off by a decent %.01/16/2018 at 7:01 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 343: Our Business = Little Things Every Day #30592My numbers for the week of 1/7/18:

Returns: 0I love the Goldbergs! That mother cracks me up. And whenever I watch it, I always see all the “eBay-able” stuff in the background. I’m pretty sure I have sold EVERY phone in their house (not to them, but…). Hahaha.
I had a really weird problem this week with an order. A GSP customer bought an item, but did not pay yet. Sent me a message saying he was having trouble with PayPal and to cancel the order, but once he got payment figured out he would re-purchase it. I cancelled the order. I got the auto message through eBay confirming the cancellation. I re-listed the item. A little short of 24 hours later, I got a notification on my phone that payment was received…but when I went on my PC, the order was still showing cancelled and the re-listed item was still active. Long story short, somehow the buyer was able to put through payment on the cancelled order. Ebay would not let me print a label for a cancelled order, I could not even see the buyers info because it was through GSP. I had to call eBay and they told me to refund the buyer through PayPal and have them re-purchase. Ok, done. But then the customer messages me and wants to know when they will receive the international shipping they paid. Argh! All this communication back and forth was tricky with a broken English customer. He couldn’t understand why I had to refund in the first place. Today (4 days later) he did end up re-purchasing the active item and I sent it out this morning. Don’t know how long it will take GSP to refund his shipping. My numbers for the week of 12/31/17:
Total Items in Store: 116
Items Sold: 13
Cost of Items Sold: $39
Total Sales: $501 + shipping
Highest Price Sold: $212 – Mercury Glass Christmas Tree Set
Average Price Sold: $38.54
Returns: 0I have decided to go for it in 2018! I have been very part time so far and now my kids are getting older. For years I have been going back and forth in my mind of whether to go back to regular employment or to see what I can do if I was more serious with eBay. I’ve decided to stick with eBay. My listing goals are to do double what I did last year. Hoping my sales will follow suit!
I like hearing about your latest recipes. I actually went to Johnson & Wales University and have a degree in Culinary Arts. Decided it was definitely more a hobby than a career fit for me. And ironically my husband is the definition of a meat and potatoes guy. No fancy sauces for him! I just make them and leave all the flavor off of his portion, and we’re all happy.Does anyone know…if you use Easy Auction Tracker is GoDaddy Bookkeeping necessary? Is GDB just paying for duplicate info? If not, what exactly is GDB supplying that I can’t get from PayPal reports and Easy Auction Tracker?
I just want to add one more thought to the jacket bit. The idea that there is a legal infringement is ridiculous. I have on at least 2 occasions purchased something from Walmart online, at rock bottom prices. I completed checkout…paid for the items. They ran out of stock on the “special price” quantity of items. My orders have been cancelled…not backordered…cancelled. With a stock form letter apology. Actually I just pulled one up from my email.
Exact quote: “Thank you for shopping with Walmart.com. Unfortunately, we’ve had to cancel the items listed below because they were not available in your selected store when we were preparing your order for pickup. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you.”
So you see, they did not merely backorder my item and fulfill it at the price I purchased it at. They cancelled & refunded it without my consent. If I want the item, I would have to repurchase it when available, and at whatever that future price is listed at. The jacket situation is not much different in my opinion. The reasons may be slightly different, but the means to the customer is the same. I’m not getting the item I wanted at the price I wanted. Welcome to online shopping!I was reading thorough the comments above. And it got me thinking about my own experiences as a buyer on this crazy thing called the internet. When you are buying from regular people…on eBay, Facebook, one of the myriad of selling apps out there…it is a different set of rules. I don’t consider it a done deal until I have the item in my hands. I source often on local Facebook groups. It is pretty normal to have people back out, change their minds, whatever. It’s happened to me plenty of times that a deal falls through after it was made but before it was in my possession: “I just looked this up and they’re going for $$ so I want 20x what we agreed on, my husband doesn’t want to sell it for that price, my kid saw me getting rid of it and wants to keep it after all. I have heard every single one of these. And as a buyer it’s frustrating…but not really THAT frustrating because I know it can happen in these venues. Your buyer has a right to be peeved, but he’ll get over it. Probably faster than you’d think because he never actually had the jacket.
Totally to justify and just to make yourselves feel better, you could look at it this way. If you bought a brand new car and were waiting on delivery of it (custom order paint), and it comes off the docks and is on the way to the dealership where you are going to pick it up, and the dealer-owned hauler gets in a wreck setting your new car into flames, who’s car is it? Does it go on YOUR insurance claim when you never even touched it yet? Or does the dealership assume ownership until safe delivery is made to the customer? Just another way to look at it.My numbers for the week of 11/19/17:
Total Items in Store: 99
Items Sold: 16
Cost of Items Sold: $54
Total Sales: $495 + shipping
Highest Price Sold: $65 tie (Christmas luminary & Camo Hunting Vest)
Average Price Sold: $30.94
Returns: 0If I have an item that I can’t find info on, that is always going to get listed as an auction the first time around. I put a high starting bid and let it go. Even if it doesn’t sell, you can tell alot by the interest in gets in watchers and views. If it doesn’t sell but gets a lot of attention, you can figure your starting price was close, or even accurate and you just need the right buyer. Then you know where to price it as a BIN. And if there is no interest, at least you know it is not one of those rare “denim jackets”. You don’t have to know everything if you use Auctions wisely. And I have said it before but starting a $.99 Auction on a sure thing item (one that you are very aware of the going price on and that has high sell through) generally ends in a higher than average sale price and seems to boost sales across the board…like a loss leader without loosing anything.
