Some of you may remember that earlier this year I sold a blank, designer writing journal for $1,350. It was made by famous Italian designer, Gabriela Crespi. I almost overlooked the small signature in the brass while listing it. I paid $1.50 for it. The journal is currently up for sale on 1stDibs for $3,800: https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/decorative-objects/desk-accessories/more-desk-accessories/rare-gabriella-crespi-cork-brass-notebook/id-f_5090413/. I hope the guy gets it!
Definitely a good year for me in the high priced items category!

Great article. Thanks for sharing, Jay!
We used to have a tradition of buying everyone in our family matching Christmas pajamas each year. While it was a fun tradition, it got very expensive as the family grew and I was spending somewhere around $300 for pajamas that were usually only worn once. Last year I replaced the Christmas pajamas with a “thrift box” for everyone. Instead of the $30-$50 pair of pajamas, I filled a box with thrifted items that I thought they would like. It was fun and easy as I am always spotting stuff for my family while out thrifting. They LOVED it and begged me to continue the new thrift box tradition this year. Examples of what was included in this year’s boxes are: a really nice NorthFace jacket, some Columbia work pants, several rugged flannel shirts, an amazing Coach purse, a pair of awesome hiking boots, and a brand new travel bag for golf clubs. The thrift boxes and now “thrift stockings” have replaced all of our Christmas purchases. Super fun new addition this year was the thrift box for my first grand baby who will be born in February!

Anything I buy to sell gets listed under my main Paypal account and that all goes to pay general bills, taxes and new inventory. Anything I get for free or if it is something of my own I sell, goes to a Paypal account that is dedicated to vacations/ fun money. Sometimes when I really don’t feel like listing, I will allow myself a day of “anything listed goes to the vacation account.” My vacation account currently has about $5K in it!
