Yeah not really panicking, I’ve been selling on Ebay for over 15 years and used to alot of changes. I have been through category updates before however this one is not only affecting sellers but buyers are also complaining that they are not able to find anything they usually collect, their saved searches were also completely wiped out. If you happen to Google an item that is found on Ebay and it happens to be in one of the “retired” categories, Ebay doesn’t redirect to the correct listing it just says “Sorry, we messed up, can’t find the page you’re looking for”. So, yes I will get through it, but it is hours of extra work for sellers who have a high inventory in those categories to correct everything (it’s not just about item specifics but completely inappropriate categories) and the new added problem of buyers not finding what they want. I don’t particularly want to source on Ebay and take advantage of sellers who are also in this mess that haven’t caught on yet or caught up. Again, bad move for 4th quarter.
Ok, thanks for the link, I think I get it now!
I claim all income whether I receive a 1099 or not. Honesty is the best policy! Plus as Jay mentioned, you have proof of income when needed for loans.
I guess I’m a little confused…I have a premium store/managed payments and was paying I think 9.7% FVF for most categories I sell in (collectibles/art/pottery glass) plus the managed payment fees. As I read the update, these categories are now 11.7% FVF not including managed payment fees, so that’s an increase of 2% not .2%. Am I reading that right? If so, that’s a pretty good increase. I’m in that weird numbers area where I probably can’t downgrade my store and it’s not due for renewal until August I think, so no saving money there. Any thoughts?
There is an article on Ebay discussing 1099-K, the thresholds and if they are different in your state. Go to “help/contact” and enter 1099 in search. Pretty self-explanatory from there.
Like I said “personal experience”. I have not experienced any of the claims you mention with the company I deal with. You can find information to support any idea/opinion on “google/internet”. Oh well…
I agree with Zach. As long as a company makes a legitimate, good product…who cares who they share their profits with. Pyramid schemes and MLM’s are often not the same thing. I like products from a certain essential oil company (after doing my own research and testing), they are MLM. I am never pressured to recruit, sell nor have minimum requirements to meet. The fee I pay yearly for wholesale prices, I view as no different than a Costco membership. These products are sold on Ebay and are sought after, and to my knowledge not an issue. Maybe not a great idea to lump any company as gross or bad without personal knowledge. That’s like saying all sellers on Ebay are “hustlers”. Only my opinion ☺️
I view extending handling times as way to give buyers a more accurate expectation of delivery. For instance, if you have a 10 day handling time, before a buyer even purchases they are shown a far out delivery date. I will still ship within 1-2 days but their estimated delivery will be more on point. Does eliminate false expectations.
Unfortunately it seems the USPS problems will only be worsening for a while. I spoke with a supervisor at a distribution center that said most temporary hires for the season and Covid replacements are only given basic knowledge. For instance, unless it’s in a Priority box from USPS, most will not bother to look at the actual label to see it’s a Priority package and will be put on a ground truck, which are black holes right now. I will be using UPS for most packages over 16oz, I have found them to be more reliable than FedEx. I am changing my handling time to 5 business days (although I will actually ship sooner) to accommodate Ebay’s new notice about “item not received” cases. The more time that is given for handling & delivery, the better chance I won’t have to refund a buyer for something they’ll eventually receive. Going to try it anyway…
UPS and FedEx labels are on the monthly invoice, not taken out immediately from funds. I have been happier with UPS as the charges have been exactly what was quoted when I purchased the label. My last few FedEx labels have come through with mysterious surcharges that are much higher than quoted and if you buy additional services like insurance or signature confirmation, they are no where to be seen on FedEx label even though I was charged for them. I am fastidious about my measurements and weight, I always add extra to both just to make sure. FedEx has been unreliable for me.
11/16/2020 at 12:03 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 488: Remember When Life Was Boring? #83482Greetings from Idaho! My first post although I’ve been listening for a couple of years. Some info on this week’s podcast that may be helpful…
1) For those in managed payments: until an item is paid for there are no final value fees charged, so there would be no fee credit for unpaid items.
2) UPS is now integrated with Ebay labels for most sellers (better option for dimensional rates and I have not had any of the issues with UPS that FedEx has had with overcharging) and there was a banner on Ebay site offering 20% credit for final value fees if you use UPS or FedEx for shipping until 12/10. Credit doesn’t appear for 4 weeks. Not sure if this is offered to all sellers or by invitation.
3) USPS padded flat rate was $7.54, now $7.91 with Ebay labels reflecting price increase.
Hope that is helpful. Don’t have it all together to post numbers yet. Thanks for the podcast!
