Has anyone seen this? Someone on one of the Facebook groups mentioned she received an email from ebay, telling her that ten of her items are in customer shopping carts, and promising if she lowers the price by 5%, ebay will send them an email. (I assume “5% or more” is meant.)
ebay has promised to use its data to help us, and this seems like a good use of that data. I’d be glad to markdown some stuff if I knew an interested buyer would be notified…might make the sale, might not, but I’d be willing to try….

Did this person provide a screenshot of the message? Never heard of this before.
Seems like this would be complicated. Did eBay send her a list of the specific 10 items in the carts that she needs to discount? Or its just a “do a 5% discount on your whole store”?

There was a screen shot, but I think it was just the top of the page, didn’t include details. I got the impression the email included a list of specific items, because she said before she could make the changes, one of them sold LOL (which does hint that maybe it was in someone’s cart).
Hoping I get one of these at some point…

Cool. Its difficult to comment on these kinds of things unless people provide real data and proof.
If eBay really is doing this, it’d be a very new thing for them. But then it brings up the “hack” buyers can do. Load up items int their cart, and then wait for the email that says its all discounted 5%.
Free money if you just wait x days.

Jay, Yes, people brought up that hack on the thread, some seemed to think with Amazon especially, that if they just wait they’ll get a discount. I think this may be different in that only some ebay sellers will actually take ebay’s advice and reduce, so buyers really won’t have much assurance, any more than Put it on a watch list and wait for the price to go down. For our kind of stuff, buyers know there’s a risk: wait too long, and maybe someone else buys it. If it’s the only one on ebay, buyers may learn not to wait LOL

Okay, so we just received an eBay message exactly as initially described.
Here’s a screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/n8ciQ
“Lower the price by 5% on these items in shoppers’
carts, and we’ll email them to say their deal got better.”Lists the specific items that they want us to discount by at least 5%.

Jay, Are you going to try lowering the price?

yeah i lowered the price by 5% as suggested, i’ll let you know if any of those items sell!. one of the items sold a day ago anyway, without lowering the price.

I got one of those and one of the items mentioned had already sold the other day, LOL–a $12.50 item! I did lower an additional expensive item by about 20%. It would be nice if it sold.

I will have to look out for this. Interesting way to potentially drive sales conversion and increase velocity…

I got this yesterday, dropped the prices 5%, and sold 4 / 7 of the items today, 😀

I got it, too. Seven items. I lowered the price on six of the items and two sold the same day.
Is there a way to find out whether items are in buyers’ carts without this notification?

MrsKensington, Not that I know of. I do wonder though, if enough sellers use this, will they start putting the info in Sellers Hub? I think it’s possible, but not sure they will. First, because judging by many posts I’ve seen on the ebay boards and FB groups, a lot of sellers will refuse to do it. And second, because , on the opposite end, some sellers might go overboard, discounting again and again so that ebay keeps sending the emails, but buyers can get tired of that sort of thing. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

I dropped the prices by 5% on seven items as suggested. It made no difference whatsoever.

Same here. Now I have to go back and bring the prices back up. I guess it was worth a shot.

I wonder if dropping the prices could just be done with a short term sale mark down so when it ends the original price will still be intact.

I received that message a few days ago too. I lowered the price but that didn’t generate a sale. Whats funny is after I lowered the price I later ran a 10% off sale then the item sold. Not a big deal though at least i sold the item.
