Can anyone give me advice or point me to a previous thread about knowing when to start a store? I am currently just listing out of the free listings, but I do pay for Terrapeak. What are the metrics for knowing when it makes more sense to get a store subscription?

Are you on a starter store yet? Or just doing the free 50 or so listings?
Depending on the # of listings you have, you can see where it makes more sense to pay per listing versus subscribe to a store.
A starter store is 4.95 for 250 listings now. So, thats the equivilent of paying 30 cents each for 16 listings. So, if you are 16 listings over your free listings, it makes sense to do a starter store.
On another thread we were talking about how starter stores and basic stores got the numbers of listings changed this month, and I was reminded that with a basic store you also get Terapeak for free and $25 of shipping credit for the supplies store every quarter.
So, for the value of $21.95, you get $6.25 worth of shipping supplies, Terapeak (I think it’s 16 by itself? correct me if I’m wrong) and 350 listings.
So, ignoring the shipping supplies, but not the terapeak since youre already paying for it, a basic store is 5.96 a month for basically listings. With a basic store, listings beyond your free ones are 0.25 cents each. 5.96 devided by 0.25 is 23 listings. So, to me, if you wanted to keep terapeak and needed at least 23 listings more than what you have free already, it’s worth it to get a basic store.
Now, looking forward, there are some cases where it makes more sense to pay for extra listings than to bump up to the next store. I’m not going to count shipping supplies in this, and just talk listings.
A premium store is 1,000 listings a month for 59.95, and the next step up is an Anchor store which is 10,000 listings for 299.95 a month (I know you get special things with anchor stores like an anchor support line, but let’s pretend that doesn’t matter and just talk listings)
So, paying 59.95 a month for 1000 listings equals about 5.9 cents a listing. Additional listings after the 1000 are 10 cents each
An anchor store is 299.95 a month for 10000 listings, or 2.9 cents a listing. Additional listings are 0.05 a listing.
So, in order to make the jump from Premium to Anchor is a $240 difference a month. With $240, you can buy 2400 additional listings for your premium store before you start paying more in additional listings than if you were to bump up.
So, if you have a store with 3400 listings or less and don’t consider the added values of an anchor store, it’s cheaper to just stay on premium. But, once you reach 3401 listings, it makes more sense to jump up to Anchor because any listing after that is cheaper with the anchor subscription than it is to buy listings for a premium subscription.
Hope this helps!

Going back to the original question:
I just saw that terapeak without a store subscription is $19.00. So, really for 2.95 more, you get access to 350 listings. So, if you’re already paying for terapeak and list 9 items (2.95 / .30 a listing) over your allotted free listings, it’s worth it.

@lauren Thank you for your response. I’m not maxing monthly listings yet so I think I will wait a while longer. I guess I’m confused about the listings; when it says “50 free” doesn’t that mean I can list 50 new things or is that including maintaining active ones? I currently have about 150 active.

Its 50 items in your store at any one time.

I thought it was 50 items in your store during a month’s period of time. So, if you start the month with 50, sell 10, and list 10, that is actually 60.

I dont even know where to find info on the free 50-listing level.
The Starter Store sounds like the way to go: https://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/run-your-store/subscriptions-and-fees.html
You get 250 listings a month for $4.95/month.

Okay so I did some more digging.
Currently eBay allows non-store owners 200 free listings per month. Additionally, I only pay $12 per month for Terrapeak, which appears to be a non-store rate. It’s interesting that once you move to a Starter store subscription they increase Terrapeak to $19.99 per month if you want to keep it, in addition to the monthly $4.95. It’s a savings of roughly $5 per month by moving to a Starter if I hit 250 listings.
Additional fees beyond the 200 are $0.35 per listing. Store = $24.94 for 250 listings. Non-Store = $29.50 for 250 listings. For that price though, I may as well upgrade to a Basic store.
Thanks everyone for the input! This helps me see it may make most sense to switch around January.
