I have a filthy spacemaker coffee maker in my basement that I’ve been putting off cleaning and listing for 2 years. I should probably get it listed before everyone finds out that they are being made again and can buy brand new for cheaper.

I’ve had consistent sales this week but nothing impressive profit-wise. Suddenly a lot of my older items are moving, things that have been in my inventory for years! I did update my listings about a month ago, perhaps that explains it.

Thanks for the video Steve. It looks like the doggos got some peanut butter ice cream? My dog ignores everyone and everything when he’s eating ice cream. He even ignored my husband when he returned from a week away – which is usually met with great fanfare by the dog. Peanut butter ice cream is serious business.

Sales are up, but I am selling mostly low dollar items. Here’s a few that are interesting:

A friend of my parents seems to be the type to buy in large quantity when he sees something he needs or wants to give as gifts. He had a large hoard of CFLs (60 and 100 Watt equivalents) that I listed about a month ago. I got one of those eBay messages to lower prices on items in people’s carts, and the first set of 6 sold for $15. I got lots left.

I bought a bundle of stuff that included a fancy, but damaged, desktop organizer thing at an auction over a year ago. It really wasn’t sellable as-is, so I took apart the organizer and listed these cast iron winged figures. I paid less than $1, and they sold for $26.

I went to an auction this summer that had tables of alcohol company related stuff. I couldn’t pass up on this Iron City beer lighted sign. I paid more than I would normally spend on something, but I grew up in Pittsburgh. I guess I felt nostalgic about it, although the beer doesn’t taste any better than Budweiser. I received a message from someone asking whether the insert was removable. It is, but I’m glad that someone else bought it. I paid $11.50, sold for $37.46.

I had 2 notable sales last week, and a good number of bread & butter-priced items, also many of them from long-listed inventory (so yay).

This set of RL sheets was a backup used in my house for a few years (mostly on the guest bed). I never liked how they looked pink from far away, and they were far too crisp. This large cast iron casserole dish came from the large kitchen buyout I did last summer via an online auction. Found both a small and this large version of the same casserole in going through the cabinets. My week felt slow, but I ended up with several higher than average sales to pump up my weekly numbers. Here are some of the highlights…

This little metal mesh pill purse came from a box lot of little trinkets. I paid $33 for the whole box (each sellable piece came to 8.25) but I already made my money back 4x over. This thing has some damage and major oxidation, but a soak in a vinegar solution fixed a lot of that up. I even had some spare rhinestones from past broken costume jewelry that I glued in place (there’s a little tip, pry out the rhinestones of junk jewelry and keep them in a little tin for little repair jobs like this). I listed it higher than I would have only because it was unique. Took a while but it sold for full price of $30.
Metal Mesh Pill Purse

I got this Parker fountain pen and a few other fountain pens from the bottom of a box lot for $5. I’ve noticed people tend to pass over pens in box lots without much thought, but there can often be 10 or 12K gold nibs inside. This pen just had a gold filled cap, but apparently it was highly collectable. It didn’t take long before I got a good best offer of $105 for it.

Here’s my big sale of the week, and the most surprising. I acquired this Leschen & Sons brass paperweight from a box lot that I paid $15 for (each sellable piece came to $2.50). I didn’t think it would be worth so much, but I place a really high price tag on it just because there were no others like it (neither sold nor listed). Listed it for $120 and was willing to take a best offer, but it sold for full price just hours later. Hmm. Well I was happy for the sale anyways, just hope I didn’t leave money on the table.

I’m always on the lookout for old band merchandise, though I rarely come by any. So when I found this Beach Boys hat from 1985, I knew I could get some good money for it. I paid .75 cents for it at a yard sale. It took a long time, but it finally sold for $50. Nice easy sale!
