Steve – I sold my first shoe shine box on Oct 9, and then I saw you sell one a few days later!
Mine was in not such good shape, but I did include the dried out polish. I don’t know, but I figured people buying the box might be interested in the advertising on the old containers. Anyway, I didn’t do so well on it. I paid $4 and sold it for $15.71.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183287823316Here’s something I did better on. In August, I went to the last day of a rummage sale where a bag of clothing was $5. I bought this men’s suit (I believe custom) made in Canada for about 75 cents. Sold it for $53 through the GSP, and it is going back to Canada.

The auction company’s service provider had a server issue after the auction started to end, and people couldn’t put in bids. I probably should have had competition, but I bought it for the minimum bid of $1. It sold for $43.

I bid on several lots of this Haviland Cambridge china in an online auction this summer, but between the rising prices of bids, and looking around my office at the china that hasn’t yet sold…well, I backed off. Ended up winning just these 2 platters after hoping I’d be outbid and save the drive, alas. Made decent money. I got this awesome MCM fabric at a nearby estate sale, along with a slew of other fabric, and recently got around to listing it. This was my largest amount of fabric from that purchase, at 8 yards. I sold it too low in price, in afterthought, but I was happy to see it go. Anyone else using an iPhone 8 for photos? I upgraded this summer from a 7 to an 8 Plus, and a good deal of that was for the better camera, but looking back at my photos – like the fabric above – I see how terrible they can be. Blurry…. Maybe I was just moving too fast.
During a trip to Seattle/Portland this past May, I had my first experience with the Goodwill bins. Got a few clothing items, as well as this vintage airline bag. Despite it’s stains and missing shoulder strap, it had lots of lookers from the get-go. Not sure why I picked these Wamsutta pillowcases up at a recent estate sale. Perhaps because there wasn’t much else catching my eye, and they were NOS. The cashier got a little confused by the labeling which says pillowcases and sheets, but it appeared there were just 2 pillowcases in the sealed packaging. Got them for $2. When I got home, I did open them up to check on the contents – 2 pillowcases. Was able to note in the listing how incredibly soft they were, very nice old school 100%, tight weave. I had a couple of better than average clothing sales this week.
First is a NWT Anne Klein 2 piece skirt suit. Original retail was $340. Recently reduced the price to $80 which sold it. Paid $10.99 at Goodwill. Suits are little pricey at my Goodwill but worth going through in the off chance I find a St. John suit or blazer – which is rare.A fun clothing sale was this 1980s style prom dress. Superb condition. Paid $6.99 sold for $60. I did have one annoying inquiry on it about a month ago. The potential buyer asked if I’d take $25 since they only intended to wear it once. With that logic the entire wedding gown industry would come crashing down.
Not a high dollar sale but a quick flip and I probably underpriced it – Box of 20 Edward Gorey Holiday cards. I paid 99 cents for the box and it sold within a day for $22. Not your traditional holiday card illustrations. I’m pretty sure these were originally sold at Barnes and Noble.
Looking forward to having a listing marathon this weekend. My husband is out of town working overtime so I have the entire house to myself which means spreading out and setting up my ebay photography equipment in a usually inconvenient area in the kitchen and leaving it all set up for 2 days rather than having to pack it all up after a few hours so we can use the kitchen like normal people. Here’s hoping for a very productive 48 hours!
