Welp, I feel that it is much slower than it should be for me at this time of year. I listed something 4/7 days last week and my goal is really to get something up every day. I plan to run a public coupon this week.
So far the software is not paying for itself in extra sales but I’ve mostly cross posted the new items and they are more expensive. The fees are higher so I am not making as many offers there. I still like Mercari the best for listing and functionality, but it has been slow over there.
Yesterday I figured out that Nifty will auto-refresh my Mercari listings. I didn’t know that was possible so I set it up to happen. It will roll out over time. My Mercari listings are quite stale. Hopefully if I refresh listings on Mercari I can make higher offers (you are limited to a percentage of your previous offers to buyers on Mercari and Posh.)
I need to massage my Ebay 90 day + listings a bit and do a sell similar. Very unfortunately, I cannot exclude variation listings in the Nifty automatic delist and relist so I could end up with phantom listings if I don’t check for quantity variations with prior sales. The Ebay rep who did my store review confirmed this. If I don’t have good sales on Poshmark by January I will discontinue Nifty.
On a lot of my new Ebay listings I’m doing flat rate shipping. I hope it works out to be a wash. So far I only have 1, 2 and 3 pound rates and the 2 pound rate for West Coast would be higher than calculated but I want to get on Google Shopping. I’m worried about losing money on shipping so I may have gone a little high.
I’m also including more pictures to get to the arbitrary 6-7 Cassini likes. Today I got a pop up box asking me to add more photos to a couple of listings and I could do it in the bulk edit page. This seemed to be a new feature.
I hope you all have a good week on Ebay. I’m starting to list Christmas and have a little Halloween left from my pop up market. I’m looking at this post and realizing I am pulling out all the stops for about the same sales I used to have with less effort and a smaller store. “/

For anyone who is interested: Tomorrow, from 3 to 5 ET, is eBay’s final “Seller Check In” for the year. If you haven’t reserved a spot (it’s free), or want to review the agenda, go here:
https://events.ringcentral.com/events/ebay-winter-seller-check-in/registration
All sessions are usually recorded and made available with a few days on eBay’s own You Tube channel. (I’m not sure about the “networking sessions”, which are hosted by ebay sellers, not ebay staff)
If there are any significant policy changes or new features coming, they are usually announced in the first session.
A few things I’m hoping to hear about (but doubt I will):
ebay’s Facebook Marketplace “partnership” was announced to much fanfare a while back, and since then….mostly crickets.
eBay’s Ambassador affiliate program.
Also, at ebay Open it was announced that we would soon be able to use the App to upload videos directly in the app listing flow. I have yet to see it in my App.
And, given recent announcements from etsy, Shopify, and even Wal Mart…that they have integrated with ChatGPT for direct shopping….will eBay have anything to say about this? Or about their own progress (if any) on implementing AI for listings (load photos, and eBay does the rest….I’m not seeing it for my stuff, although there are 3rd party programs that apparently can do this for you)
And finally, will this be the year that eBay finally decides to run an actual HOLIDAY ad campaign, or will it be another year of marketing focusing only on ebay’s Focus Categories, with little or no connection to the Holiday Season?

Thanks @mycottage. I might be able to catch part of it. Ebay loves to talk about AI but I’m not finding their stuff very helpful. I wouldn’t think they would be one of the first to open up to ChatGPT but we’ll see. I heard this week that Etsy and Walmart did but Amazon is blocking.

@mycottage did you listen? I played the replay for a while but didn’t find it too interesting and I kind of lost track of what they were pushing besides noticing suggested ad campaigns. I did hear that they are sticking with the “Things People Love” campaign and emphasizing stories of finding unique items. It’s often the car parts that they are using but oh well.

I did listen, and while it wasn’t God awful, I didn’t really hear much in the way of NEW stuff. And none of the stuff I mentioned above was discussed. I would say I’m disappointed, but my expectations were so low, I’m not sure that would be true LOL
I’d love to say I came away feeling excited about my Q4 prospects, but mostly I feel like I’m in for a long slog between now and about Dec 15th, when I’ll start to pull back some. I did not come away thinking: Boy oh boy, it sure sounds like ebay is going to be pulling out all the stops this Holiday Season to help us during this period of economic uncertainty.

LOL I’m not good at splitting my attention but yeah, did not get me excited. I hope they do put a lot of advertising out and it’s not all for motors and sports cards. Etsy has been going after that present market for years. At least they are not trying to be Amazon any longer. That was frustrating to see the buy a new large BBQ on Ebay (but pay shipping) ad during football.
Going to Open was so representative of Ebay. Some good, smart people working there – nice, real people who appreciate sellers and took notes of their feedback to improve Ebay. Some embarrassing crappy dumb high level executive presentations. Some unrelatable seller presenters, while very relatable “fix this or confirm this” questions and complaints from the audience. Terrible store review rep at Ebay and technical problems but a stellar inside scoop and custom report on Zoom. In short, some great talent at Ebay but I don’t think they get the best of Silicon Valley. They have the biggest used market but also hide your listings. They innovate but don’t fix basic things. It’s such a total mixed bag.

Mixed bag. Yes, absolutely LOL
A couple You Tubers were saying that ebay execs have indicated they will be pushing for more of us to use videos. Well, that makes sense. But then why do we STILL not have the ability to upload video directly into the App? They want to see more store videos on store home pages. But then why not provide tutorials on how to make a good store video, different styles, etc.
Every since they added video to the gallery, I’ve been BEGGING them to provide an icon or something in search results to show that “Hey, this listing has a video”. And to have a filter for listings with videos. Or, do what etsy does, actually use the video as the first image in the Gallery, and in search, make it possible to hover over the video and play it right there.
Do those things, and sellers will start uploading more videos.
I can’t tell you how often I’ve had ebay reps tell me “Those are great ideas. We’ll take them back to the team.” And then: crickets. Ask about it, and they mention ebay’s “Priorities”. What? Like making more changes to the Seller Hub layout that no one has asked for?
ebay should absolutely dominate the used and vintage market…and they’ve had five years since they admitted chasing Amazon was a failure. But they’ve let a lot of the used market slip off to Social Media, to WhatNot, to etsy, etc.
ebay is absolutely still worth selling on for me. But the platform and its management is just so frustrating. It could be SO much better than it is.

100%. Look at this whole new generation appreciating vintage and Ebay has hardly grown its buyer base during that time. For sure missed a lot of opportunities for growth during a time when it should have been so easy to go after those people online.
OTOH, I know a lot of those other platforms people are giving up and returning to Ebay just because it’s huge. Sites like District and Mercari work so much better but the buyer base is much smaller. I quit listing on District and heard it was having trouble keeping afloat. It was designed by resellers and had a lot of great features.
