Jay and Rynne touched on it this week with sending direct emails to buyers (I have also adopted this strategy) on items where payment is not received after accepting an offer. I have seen a large uptick in this area over the past month and I am curious if others have seen a notable difference. I wonder if updates to the eBay app are causing notification issues, a weird pattern I am in or some other unknown reason? I currently have 7 items with accepted offers > 12hrs old with no payment. Some going on 4 days (with cases open). Like many, this is my biggest complaint when dealing with best offer.

Yes, I have noticed it mostly with International buyers over last 2 months. I am beginning to think ebay doesn’t email them a reminder. I now just set best offer on the item at the price we agree to (w/ Immediate Pay enabled, of course) and tell buyer “Ok, if you send the offer I will accept it.”

I have not noticed a large uptick, but I did have a buyer apologize and say they did not realize ebay had sent an invoice. They paid as soon as the unpaid item case opened up.

More struggles with this over the weekend. I now have 3 unpaid cases open, just closed a fourth. Still have another item going on two days with no payment. All of these are users with feedback, 3 of the 5 listed here are over 200 feedback.

No, but an uptick in sales that ask for an immediate cancellation…

I’ve had more unpaid items too, in both low priced and high ticket items.

Seeing the same here. Offer immediately accepted but no payment. What gives?

Thought to jump in here since I just accepted a best offer for an old Bread Advertising door pull tin sign. Worth around $150, I listed at $300 make an offer, and then a decided to run a 50% off sale on it. The offer came in at $135, it’s one my “just get whatever for it” consignments, so I accepted. I decided to write this on the invoice I sent. Who knows if any leverage?
“With best Offers, I decline any offer, change the item price to the offer price, and email the buyer. I do this because a large percentage are not paid. With typical Buy It Now, immediate payment is required. This insures that the item is not taken off the platform for days, sometimes never paid for. This is especially important as we are into the Hoidays. After reviewing your feedback, and respecting your honorable offer, I decided to simply accept!
Most Sincerely, and thank you, Tom”The buyer is US AND has been a member for 5 years, with 345 feedbacks, many thanking the buyer for a prompt payment. Prompt is not the same as Lightning Fast, Immediate, or Fast in my book.

Just as I submitted my last post here, full payment came in, who knows if my little note had any bearing on the ‘promptness’.

I am trying to avoid the extra work of declining, repricing, emailing etc. That was supposed to be the whole point of the best offer system, but I digress. I am more curious if it’s a systematic issue vs people just being flakey as this has only been a real problem recently.
I had one of the three open cases message me (finally) yesterday about not paying and said they would do so ASAP. Today is day eight and I can close the case in a couple of hours and will. They have over 200 feedback, the sell price is $20 and the username is relevant to what they are buying so ?????.
On the bright side, the past couple of days the offerers have paid quickly and many items have sold at full price.

Bumping this. Jay and Rynne mentioned their frustration with this phenomenon on the podcast this week and my non-payment cases and “waiting for payment” stacks continue to increase. The vast majority of the buyers are wellllllll established members. I am confounded by this issue. Does anyone here buy on ebay using best offer? If so, are you getting correct notifications/emails when an offer is accepted? Android and iOS?
