Is there a more wretched hive of scum and villainy than video game buyers on ebay? If I am going to deal with an uncouth buyer, I just know it will be a video game buyer.
Anyways, I had a guy who kept lowballing me on a video game. Every offer he made was lower than the last, and he always included some comment to tell me how my item was worth less. He made his third and final offer this morning, then immediately messaged me this wonderful nugget:
Nevermind, I don t do budiness with females. No thanks
So I responded with this: “??? grow up.” I then went and blocked this idiot.
His last response is a real classic:
New message from: thewrightster
I’m a grown ass man, idiot.
And you tell me NOTHING!
You jew lawyered jew media psychological terrorist are nothing, just as you’ve been for thousands of years. At first I thought I should report this idiot. On second and third reading, I just chuckle. Some people have real issues. So…do I goad him again to get some more classic lines or just leave it be? Normally I walk away, but this could be fun!

Wow. I’m sorry you have to deal with that. My initial response would be to just walk away from the clown. But the statements are pretty strong and incredibly hateful. So let me posit this– you are clearly strong and thick skinned about it. But what happens when he spews misogenistic, anti-semitic, (insert hate speech here) to someone that is not as strong, thick skinned, or maybe just having a really rough time in their life. What happens when he spews to them?
I am okay with someone calling me an Asshole, bastard, or whatever. But when it is hateful, no matter how misdirected, I feel like they need to be tossed off ebay. Quite frankly I think they need to be tossed off the earth, but that is another discussion.
I don’t think I could stand by and let them do it to someone else even though it wouldn’t bother me personally. Regardless of how you choose to handle it, good luck.

Yes, I also agree that eBay should know the hate speech this guy is using. You wouldn’t allow a customer like this to remain in a B&M store so why should it be on an online platform?
I’d still have some difficulty dropping the conversation before eBay booted him off though, because part of my research interest is centered on the linguistics of such language.

WOW. Does he anger much? I’d have a hard time not continuing the conversation just to see what other rambling nonsense he spews out.

Or you could respond with something nonsensical that would make him stew on whether there is a hidden meaning like “I like pie” or “venus is aligned, the floss is waxed, and the soup is hot.”

I thought your story was going to be about impatience, immaturity, and unwarranted negative feedback (all issues I associate with buyers of videogames) — but instead it’s about harassment and misogynist/anti-Semitic abuse. If the reporting system is anonymous, I’d report this buyer. I think goading him would be hitting a hornet’s nest, and even though I guess it’s sort of funny to see someone blow up like that, I think the safest thing is to block (which you’ve done) and report. This person seems really unhinged.
Edited to add: That said, I love Whiskey’s idea!

I was going to report him, but eBay’s policy basically only covers breaking buying selling rules in communication. Being rude, unruly, or insulting doesn’t seem to be an option.

So I responded along Whiskey’s idea. I wrote the following:
“I like pie. Do you like pie? Chocolate cream is my fav. A good pumpkin with ample whipped cream is a close second.”

I can’t wait to hear how the great pastry descalation experiment of 2017 turns out! Hopefully he just went to Denny’s and is eating cheap pie pondering his next video game purchase.
As far as the interpretation goes, whatever he was trying to say, he did admit something has been working for 1000 years. so I would take that as a positive statement.

I’m also trying to interperet his message.
So… I am an immortal terrorist that has a jewish lawyer and I prefer to watch Israeli broadcast television. Grammatically speaking, I think that is what he said.-

Hey Retro: I don’t know about your state [WV], but in some states he has committed a crime. I did a little research on this and a few states will allow you to call the police and make a report of “hate” words being spoken or shouted at you. A few states will make a case if it is verbally said to you, others only if written to you and a couple cover both forms. It has been recorded on the books along with “verbal Assault, especially with the use of the use of racial slurs. It seems to also be easier if it is written because then you have proof of the crime being committed and also it is traceable. He can be arrested and charged in some jurisditions.
I would call your local police, tell them your story and you have it in writing. Mentioned you are afraid this guy may look you up [and who knows he could] and see what they say. If you can do nothing more than get a written complaint form from your local police, THEN call Ebay, tell them your story and ask them whom you are to send the police report to at Ebay. See what they say. Bet you may get a reply. Also don’t forget that you can also make a copy of the police report and mail it to Ebay’s Corporate Headquarters to one of their Vice Presidents. I would bet you can get this guy banned for life off Ebay. Especially in today’s politically charged environment.
If it were me I would have already called the police.
But just my opinion.

Well he did respond. I can’t post the reply but I learned that he does like pie…among other things loosely associated with the word pie.
I also confirmed I am indeed dealing with an idiot kid who needs to have their internet rights revoked! Definitely a racist wannabe punk kid. Sad dealing with people such as this. What kind of environment does someone have to be raised in to act in such a way? Not worth calling the cops over, but definitely sad.-

For those of you who do not believe in corporal punishment, I offer pie boy as my argument that is pro corporal punishment.
Pie boy needs his butt whooped.

If this is a kid, his parents may not know he’s doing this. Ignoring it may be the easiest thing to do, but not necessarily the right thing to do. In this climate of school shootings, and hate crimes, and teen suicides, speaking up is important. This guy has the potential to hurt someone. Just contact ebay and contact his local precinct and let them know. There may already be a watch on this person, or you may be the only person willing to shine a light on his behavior. If they laugh at you or blow you off, so what! I truly regret the times in my life that I did not speak up. So this is me, speaking up, asking you to speak up.
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

Wow, I’ve sold thousands of video game items and never encountered anybody that offensive. I’d report his account to eBay and hope he gets banned, no seller should have to deal with that level of stupidity.

If it were my kid doing this, I’d want someone to report it. There should be consequences and if he gets it now maybe he won’t do something worse as an adult.

I say report him!!No one should behave like this towards another person for any reason. Whether they are a kid or an adult. Rudeness is not acceptable in any form, and blatant disrespect as well. So many people today think it is okay to walk all over other people, because if you don’t allow them to it is infringing on their rights!Report him, block him, and tell him you did it to!!That is what I would do.

As a Father of a 16 boy and 14 girl, I would want to know if they were doing this!!! If I found out, my kids would be 30 before they saw their phones or computer again. I would also have to HAPPY helpers to do all the projects I have around the house.
