I’m not sure what to do here… A customer bought a heavy package today. When I went to ship it they had a post office box so I could not use FedEx home delivery but it said I could use FedEx smart post. Are used the label for smart post and I brought it to the mailboxes etc. where I drop off my FedEx stuff. She said oh no, that goes to the post office so I brought it to the post office and he said yeah I take that. Now looking online there’s no record of it at the post office, just the label creation… has this ever happened to anyone before? I will head to the post office in the morning and see if they still have the package. This is a bummer… Brian

I wouldn’t worry too much about the lack of tracking, it may show up later tonight. (Check it on usps.com; don’t trust the tracking link on your eBay shipped items page.) My post office has taken SmartPost before without any problems. The FedEx places should take it too but I have found that inexperienced clerks can be thrown off by the unfamiliar label and two bar codes. Just to be sure you can go in tomorrow morning but I’ll bet they’ve processed it without a hitch and it’s on its way.

Agree. Shouldn’t be an issue. Its a label that will scan internally at USPS.
When you take it to FedEx, I think all they do is drop it off at USPS.

Technically USPS only handles the last mile on Smart Post. Fedex is supposed to pick it up first. BUT if your post office clerk took it, you should be fine. Sometimes scans on Smart Post are slow, and USPS is slammed right now, I’m seeing delays all over the US with all services. So keep us updated when this gets scanned. I have one Smart Post box that got scanned in my town, then again in San Fransicso, but it’s supposed to go to Kansas, so…..

The exact same thing happened to me this week. They already know me (by first name) at the post office. Two days later, I went in, and could not wait in line although I tried. The line was short, but the clerks were tied up for whatever reason. I turned around and the clerk yelled out my name. She told me that my FedEx package was there and that I had to take it. The other clerk was aware and she looked for it to give to me but could not find it. Looked online-no sign of it anywhere. That was Monday. Today is Saturday. Nada. The line today at the post office was about 30 people deep outside (they will allow about 12 inside), so I was not about to wait for 42 or so people to get waited and and “maybe” have a chance to get inside. So, I have no idea where that package is.
The other thing is that my post office changed their Saturday hours from 8:30-3 to 11-1. I know! Crazy. That is why the line is so long now. Insane.

I did it by accident this past Monday. Put it in the drop box inside my go-to post office. Didn’t realize it until the next day when I was shipping another Fed Ex box and it hit me. I went to that post office and had someone look for it in the back but they couldn’t find it. They figured it went to the main processing center and who knows what happens to it then.
It was Smart Post so I have been hoping they either just dealt with it, or they swapped packages with FedEx and they would now have it. Every day I check tracking and nothing. Tomorrow is one week, and I’m not very hopeful any more.
It was three different items (total about $60) that I combined shipping on. Interestingly the buyer hasn’t noticed or contacted me yet. I figured I’d wait until sometime next week and if it doesn’t show on tracking I’d just refund them and move on. The bad thing it that it is 3 items so they each count as a hit on the “tracking uploaded on time metric.” I went from 99% to 97% because of these (must stay above 95% for top rated status I believe).

mickdog, well, I guess my status has dropped big time then, because I have a couple of stalled packages. And so it goes. I really wish ebay would not penalize us for the tracking thing. I get it, they have to have boundaries and stipulations for encouraging smooth sales, but this one really hurts. Too, you know the buyer will eventually receive the item “plus” get the refund if it’s a long enough wait.
