Okay, I think I fell upon some gold bar action.
I just scored 34 vintage farming equipment/other vintage trucker hats. They were part of a larger collection with some having wear but most look brand new.
I have a few John Deere’s and Several Dekalb/Corn Farming hats.
I paid a quarter a piece for them ($8.50) and thought I could sell them for like $20 a pop and make great money, but with a quick search it looks like the exact hats I have for a few of them are in the $80-$100 range.
I’ve never sold hats, so what am I missing in my process?
-Ship via priority for tracking/insurance
-measure circumfrence of hat band for dimensions (and bill? do you measure bills?)
-Packing:Bag in clear polymailer, then packing paper in a box to stop bill from bending
What else do I need/ What’s useful for selling hats?

I don’t sell lots of hats, and there are many other sellers on this forum that have that expertise, but I want to make sure that someone tells you about the John Deere hats. John Deere is one of those companies that protects its trademark very carefully. Search the forum for discussions on eBay’s VERO program. You might want to be careful with listing those items, and you might want to consider a different platform. Just a head’s up.

If it’s a vintage John Deere hat, I doubt you will run into any VERO problems. I’ve sold lots of John Deere hats (usually for specific dealers) and never had any of them flagged. I’ve never measured any of my hats at all. The snapback allows the user to adjust it.
I ship any hat at $40 or less via First Class. Over that amount and I go Priority. Either way, I use Scotty Stuffers for this purpose. Gives the protection of a box but goes in an envelope. These are designed to be the maximum size box you can use in a Priority Padded Flat Rate Envelope, but they also fit the large size eBay envelopes to go First Class. https://www.bubblefast.com/store/pc/50-Scotty-Stuffers-font-size-1-sup-TM-sup-font-br-9-x-5-5-x-3-5-p1633.htm

Hats are easy to sell (which is why lots of eBay sellers have gotten into it. If it’s adjustable, we don’t even measure. Take three photos. Done.

Nice find. I hope you do well with them.
I only ship hats first class but I guess if you really want the insurance you could use priority for those expensive ones. (Calculated priority shipping will be expensive for buyers). A 10x8x4″ box (or larger) is big enough for even wide brim hats.
As others have said, measuring snapbacks isn’t necessary. We usually say in the description that it will fit most heads. (Vintage snapbacks are actually not always big enough for an XL size head like my big melon head).
Look on the inside of the back snapback strap for faint writing which will often say “Made in USA” or have a brand pressed into the plastic. Keep an eye out for K-Products brand hats and mention that in the title if you find one. They can fetch a premium.
Watch out for crumbling foam or a crumbling interior lining. They are still sellable often with defects but it’s something that you’ll want to disclose.

Thanks all!
Got my scotty stuffers in the mail today- I’m a little underwhelmed. They’ll be great for other things I sell, but I think they are just a smidge too small for trucker hats. Mainly just because the height and strength of the box isn’t there. I feel like I’ll love these for my food processor parts though! I have some other boxes on order on Ebay so I’ll see if some of those work, otherwise I have a variety of thrifted boxes that I feel like I can use.
Thanks Simon for the tip about K Products- About a quarter of mine ended up being K Products, so it’s all listed in there. Wish I would have known I could sell crumbly ones- I had two that I tossed off the bat because they were crumbly and getting everywhere. C’est la vie, the trash is gone now. We won’t think about lost income, lol.
They are super fast to list! I can get through 10 of them an hour, which is great. And they fit perfectly on this weird shelf that I have on my shelving units, so thats a double win.
Thanks all!

Most of my trucker hats fit in the free Ebay 8 X 6 X 4 boxes. And ship USPS First Class.
It may seem a little tight, but I haven’t had any problems yet.
