Just wondering if anyone has any tips on how to stay (in my case “get”) fit while ebaying? I love listing and researching for ebay. More than that I love sourcing-don’t we all? But, I’m trying to find a way to exercise while listing, say, ride a stationary bike or something while listing. I am a multitasker so I love the idea of exercising while listing, researching, getting on this forum-you know, just hit two birds with one stone. I’m thinking of editing photos while on a stationary-but editing doesn’t take that long. Does anyone have a tip, story, or idea for doing the two simultaneously? I bet I would be in a lot better shape if I were consistent. Thought I’d try something now, to make a routine of it in 2021. Anyone care to share ideas? Thoughts? Does anyone currently do this?

My ideas: Work on eBay while walking on a treadmill. Use an exercise ball as your office chair. Use a stand up desk.
I use a stand up desk and just schedule in exercise every day. I bought some hand weights when I decided it was too risky to go to the gym. I’ve found that doing my routines at home saves me a lot of time compared to going to the gym. It doesn’t require a lot of expensive equipment, one of the routines I do is just walking as fast as I can up and down the stairs in my house for 20 minutes.

If anyone has recommendations for a standing desk (either DYI or something to purchase), please share. I have a cheap one (can’t even find a brand name on it) which has gotten the job done for the last few years, but I’m at a point of wanting to upgrade to something that is more sturdy.
When I’m at my most productive (which has not been the case these last few weeks — LOL!), I am good about batching tasks, and build in exercise (and meditation) as part of that routine. Take 10 pictures, do a set of push-ups and sit-ups. Finish 5 listings, do some light cardio. The standing desk makes all of this a lot easier than plopping down into a chair for 2 hours at a time would. I’m sure that some would be more productive with a set time for exercise separate from their ebay time. But this feels natural for me.

The great thing about ebay is it gives you time for exercise and the flexibility to do it when we want to.
I gave up running a few years ago to save my joints but hike for an hour or so 5-6 days a week and lift weights a couple times a week.
I think my listings would suffer by trying to do them at the same time.
Relish the freedom ebay gives us.

Thanks for the great tips. Virginia Treasures, I forgot that I had one of those large exercise balls. I know exactly where it is. I’ll go ahead and fill it with air and I’m sure that will motivate me not to get “too comfortable”. Also, Craig Rex, you had me scrambling for a solution for my treadmill. I love making things from raw materials. I had gone to Home Depot the other day and asked if I could grab their scraps of wood. They are always very happy to get rid of it. I got lucky and got 3 really nice planks of plywood. So, I made a makeshift office using one of the planks. All 3 planks were approximately 10″ x 31″. I did not cut the plank, I added some leftover contact paper from another project, grabbed some black webbing and put a swivel lobster claw on one end and used some d-rings to grab on to the other end. To keep the laptop stable, I used shelf liner (it works great). It’s not fancy, but I’m pretty happy with my new “office”.

Sometimes I walk to the Post Office with my packages, if they aren’t too big and heavy. It’s a couple of miles away. When I do people look at me like I have seven heads

My listing/shipping station and photography station are standing desks. I never sit when I’m doing ebay.
My desks I bought when Elder Beerman went out of business so I can’t really recommend it.
I can give you instructions for a super easy standing desk though:
Buy a 36″ hollow core door blank at local big box building supply door – usually $50 or less. Get some 2×3’s to build the frame.
Cut 2×3’s to match the outer perimeter of the door and screw door panel down onto 2×3’s.
Now cut the legs to the length you need for comfortable standing height and screw them into the inside of the 2×3 frame at each corner. If you want you can stain and poly the top.
One other option is to screw the back side of the top frame directly to wall studs and then just use 2 front legs.
This was how all the desks were built at the first place I worked doing AutoCAD fire protection design. It worked great for large standing workstations that required rolling out architectural drawing sets. It is cheap, light, and a huge desktop surface area (36″x80″)
Here’s an example of a cheap door slab that is already primed:
So about $50 for the desktop and 3 2×3’s to make it.
I recommend 2×3’s as they are cheaper and weigh less than 2×4’s , and are straighter than 2×2’s.
And here’s a really overkilled design that uses pocket holes. You can do this without the pocket holes but it won’t look as nice.

I didn’t intend this shipping station to be so tall.
