2025 projected total sales $61,193.60I’m definitely going through a slow period on ebay that I have historically experienced in March-May. Last year I did not experience this slow down though and my store is basically the same size. Historically Q1 2025 is second only to 2024, and I actually have a higher ASP this year. I’m just not selling a lot of volume of items. So I’m really conflicted. Was phasing out promoted listings a mistake? Is it because I didn’t list much in February and March? Is there just a general down turn in the market due to political strife? Did the vero and negative feedback I got recently impact my search rank?
I don’t know. All I can do is move on and get back to listing.
Speaking of that VERO. I was selling (more like just listing and NOT selling) some carpenter bee traps on ebay. The listing was taken down by a VERO counterfeit claim. Ebay actually doesn’t just delete the listing now – they give you a chance to resolve it. I had the original receipt for these traps from Walmart. I contacted the rights owner and sent him my receipts to see if he could correct the VERO. He said that one of his licensed sellers enacted the VERO claim. You can’t suppress resale protected by First Sale doctrine. I built my case with my original receipt, my conversation with the VERO owner, and cited the First sale doctrine which protects my right to resell goods and submitted an appeal to ebay…which was almost immediately denied – likely without even a human looking at it. Total Bull crap! Ebay doesn’t care.
Taxes are done and submitted. My oldest child aged out of the sweet $2000 tax credit and downgraded to the $500 level. BOOOOO!!!! Well at least my youngest born in 2024 makes up the difference. The state doesn’t care though – I pay more and more state tax every year. I went ahead and changed my W2 to withhold an extra $50 a paycheck on top of the extra $25 I was already doing to cover the difference that my ebay business adds to state tax burden. There are pretty much zero credits or deductions for the average person in my state.

Is there a specific reason you pulled the plug on it? I saw they put out some sort of business update, but haven’t had time to read what changes were made.
I do a small amount of business there, selling vacuum cleaner parts. All of the customers come from google searches.

There was some glitch several years ago. Don’t remember the details. I got about 1 sale a month there. It just wasn’t worth it anymore.

I accidentally put this in the wrong post … fixing it now. Really a dunce this week.
So, I had my biggest sale ever (not including MaxSold auctions), but I’m a bit pissed at myself. During the cleaning up of my neighbor’s home (who has long since moved), I found a gold chain necklace. I had weighed and priced it over a year ago and determined what was going to be a reasonable price given the price of gold at the time. Unfortunately, the price of gold has gone up pretty nicely since that time, and I did not check before accepting an offer. Along with the eBay fees, I would have been better to sell directly to a jeweler. Oh well.
I had three other good sales in the $25-$75 range (making for a great week should I chose to accept it).

Ebay sales: 756 gross, $512 net. Did not feel even that good.
No listing for 3 weeks + now.
Did a big live sale at a farm just down the coast and inland bit: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DIcKmXLT5tr/ I was a little bit intimidated but did really great @ $1900 gross. Got rid of a lot of hard to ship Pyrex and Fire King, some country related stuff, some family crocheted items, lots of smalls, etc. Things that don’t sell well at my urban markets where I live. People really came to BUY, rather than just casually browsing. It was awesome but taxing. I’m kind of reflecting on what kind of items I want to sell as a curated shop. I follow a couple of Youtube people that have me thinking of an aesthetic. One thing I like about pop ups is that everyone has a bit of a different take on vintage. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRgucPJ_Gc-Go0l868WCcAw https://www.youtube.com/@leftcoastrevivals and the rest of the Portland crowd. The antique booths are so expensive and hard to get into here, but someday it would be really fun to do a curated booth and not have to move around.
Have company this coming Thursday and a lot of reorganizing to do, but hope to get in some listing. It’s interesting that generally only my new and similar two categories of items are selling the last two weeks.
From my Facebook groups it seems like others are slow. Uncertainty really isn’t helpful for sales.
From the podcasts, I hear that the “Ebay Magical Listing Tool” (in beta) sucks and doesn’t work well or save any time. Ebay once again is lagging behind it’s competition in programming. There is talk of Mercari having a photo-to-listing tool in a better working order but I haven’t tried that. Just when I think I’ll bail Mercari, I remember how fast the listing is. If they have photo based listing first, I will at least be throwing my low dollar items on there. Right now I just want to get some listings up but I think I may move some low dollar off Ebay intstead of crossposting. I’m at 900 listings or so now.
