Our hosts here appear to be bogged down in their other businesses, so I took Retro Treasures WV’s advice and started a numbers post for this week. I hope Jay and Ryanne are not dealing with too big of a problem like the broken pipe from a few weeks ago, but running your own business, and owning your own time, also means that you have to put out all fires, so to speak.
My week was been lousy, but that leaves me more time for listing. I’m lucky that I can split my time between my day job and my eBay business.

On another subject, I’ve been purchasing from the Too Good To Go app that I first heard about on this forum in the spring. I’ve bought a few things here and there, but mostly from an organic grocery store / co-op that is a 15 min drive from my house.
Recently, the app added in new restaurants in my area while some seem to have disappeared. After seeing it come up several times, I finally reserved a surprise bag of pastries from a coffee shop, which I picked up this morning. The shop kinda reminded me of Broad Porch, but not as expansive of a menu. I did not buy any coffee.
I was a initially shy about buying because of: 1. the drive (a bit over 20 min) where I had to be at the beginning of the 8:30-10:30AM window so that I would be back to eat breakfast and make a business call at 10AM and 2. the possibility of getting gushy sugary donut type things. Boy I was wrong. I ended up with 2 blueberry sour dough scones and 2 cheese breads. Holy Cow they are tasty. I gave my daughter a cheese bread (after I took a bite), and she was also head over heels. I’ll be back.

@Sharyn – Finally tried TGTG. I was going to be in the neighborhood of that donut shop and decided what the heck. The pick up was just before closing time and they just reached into the display counter and filled a bag with an assortment of scones, donuts and fritters. Amazing deal. Made the kids happy with the donuts and the scones were great.

Number of items listed this week: 13Thanks Sharon. Last week was ok but sales are slow for me now. It’s not a great time but I’ve kind of taken my foot off the gas a bit. Also was sourcing a little much before last week and I want to make sure to keep my listing ahead of my sourcing. My daughter is pretty sick this week so hoping she doesn’t start testing positive for Covid because that would be another set back. Gotta get my mojo back.

Thanks for posting the thread @Sharyn. It is really helpful to go over the routine of these numbers every week, it helps me really think about what is selling and why. Hope you two are not too busy J&R.
10/16/2022 – 10/22/2022
Total items in store: 1142 (down from 1146 last week)
Items sold: 35 (7 via best offer, 4 via seller initiated offer, 19 via promoted listings)
Gross sales: $1613.20 (down 57% from one year ago)
Net sales: $1103.63 (down 59% from one year ago)
Average sales price: $46.09 (down 8% from one year ago)
Time spent searching through online auction listings for new trading cards inventory: 18 hours (up from 15 hours last week)
Highest price sold (net): $91.43 — Cameron Johnson 2019-20 Panini Revolution galactic RC BGS 9.5
This card is a good example of what more expensive modern insert cards look like. The graded case can sometimes be an indicator of value (if it’s BGS, PSA or SGC and a high grade for that type of card) but the rookie card (RC) logo and the type of card (in this case, a rare galactic shiny insert from the Panini Revolution set) are also important. With modern trading cards, a very shiny or intricate design can often indicate rarity or value. Look for a serial number too, with lower numbers often more valuable.
Lowest price sold (net): $3.28— Nkemdiche twins signed Ole Miss football
This was a bad buy from a couple years ago, and I kept lowering the price until it sold. Final sale price was $17 + $10 shipping but, to put the bad buy cherry on top, the only box I had which fit the item plus any padding was a regional box. In hindsight, it might have been cheaper to pay by weight instead of region, but I’m just glad to get this one out of here.

Thanks Sharyn for this post. We did indeed get swamped at our cafe in Luray where its peak leaf season.
We broken sale records this past weekend and current week as everyone is coming town to go hiking. Running a brick and mortar store is soooo much different than selling on eBay. We’ve been putting in a lot of hours at the shop. But we really enjoy the social aspect of meeting customers and hospitality. It also makes us proud with our local community is impressed by the whole busy scene.
Hope everyone is well. Numbers reporting will return on Sunday as normal.

@Sharyn for the post. I’ve downloaded the app also and have still not pulled the trigger on an order. That fear of the unknown. There aren’t very many stores in my area participating and most are bakery/donut shops. I just looked again and there is a donut shop I’ve never tried that has added, so may take the leap.
@Jay, happy to hear things are busy at the shop and you guys are well. -

New items listed: 20Disappointing sales last week, but the cleaning of my office space and scavenging from my death piles is paying off. Most of the items I posted were from stagnant death piles and 4 of the 20 have sold already.
I took a page from Steve’s playbook this week and sat down with a broken turntable I’ve had sitting on the shelf for a few years. It is a vintage Dual turntable I bought from an eBay auction for cheap, not something I am usually inclined to do. It was advertised as working well but after the auction completed the seller messaged to say that it “broke” and no longer worked. I got it cheap enough ($16.50) that I told him to send it anyway. After a quick assessment all the switches were frozen and the platter wouldn’t turn so I set it on the shelf as a future project. This particular era of Dual turntables are notorious for freezing up from the grease hardening and fortunately after a thorough cleaning it is working perfectly. I have it posted now for $325 or best offer and hope to get at least $250 on it.

Listing 2022 weekly Avg 41We went out of town for a few days for my Birthday. Had a great time and pretty much wrote ebay off for the week. I did a bit of scavenging while out of town, but I was only looking for high value items and a few “fun for me” unique items to sell. Sometimes I come across items that aren’t high value, but they are just cool and fun to handle and list. I have PLENTY of bread n butter items and don’t need any more.
I could have sold a $50 vacuum on FBMP this week but I decided to pass. The buyer started asking odd questions, wanted to change the meeting place, wanted to test item, etc well after everything was agreed upon. In all just didn’t seem like a person I wanted to deal with.

I too have the app but have been too shy to try! Our sales and sourcing have continued on an upward trajectory for the last month which is a welcome change. I am planning on retiring in about 60 days and will be redirecting part of my day to ebay. @retrotreasures, the problems that often come with that type of buyer are not worth 50 bucks!

@retrotreasures – I agree. You probably made the right move with that FBMP sale. I’ve made some nice sales there, but almost every listing comes with a couple of scam inquiries. I am very selective about what I post there. Nice to not have to pay the commissions though.

I’m a little late but getting this up to keep me honest. Another good listing week – got some short tail items listed which sold right away, which helped my numbers. Interest has also been raised in some long tail items that I have recently ended and put up through sell similar, though I noticed that I don’t get a new item notice with those, so I wonder whether eBay knows they’re actually not “new” items. I hit a couple flea markets and estate sales on Sunday 10/16 and found some really good items.
